...strong diction used throughout his speech, and is used here to bring this example of zeugma together. He understands people are scared of the world, and he stands strongly before them showing someone out there is not afraid to negotiate for peace. The metaphorical diction creates some of Kennedy's best appeals to the audience. He uses a metaphor here in a pledge to Southern nations, "to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty." Not only does his goal of liberation become more evident with the use of this metaphor, but he also shows the injustices of the past will not be repeated freely with a metaphor. He refers to evil dictators of the past saying, "those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside," clearly shows his intentions of becoming a just figure on the international level. Formal diction evokes a sense of national pride especially in referring to past Americans as "forebears," a sign of respect. During his opening line he wisely follows the addressing of many prestigious government figures by ending with fellow citizens. He puts the Americans on par with the other figures mentioned. Kennedy's use of short paragraphs, in some cases one-sentence paragraphs, allows him to not drag too long on one point. The appeal to a larger demographic can be made as he uses short rhetorical questions that can apply to anyone. This can be seen when discussing the call to unite against global enemies, he asks, "will...

...Even though, he was a player he was a nice guy that had a fun sense of humor. But there weren't just 2 boys there were also two girls there at the party and their names where Lolo and Erin. Lolo was a fun-loving, daredevil farm girl who loves her friends and family and her animals. Erin was a sort of a genius who had always carried books. Erin wasn’t peculiar at all because she had good grades and was a fun-loving person It all started around 5:40 pm and Tysen and Lolo were throwing a party and they had invited Erin and Dayton over to have some fun. First, Erin had arrived carrying a bunch of books and her backpack that must have weighed thousands of pounds because Lolo couldn’t carry it. Minutes after Erin had got there, Dayton had arrived and was carrying multiple bags of popcorn and no books at all, not even his math textbook. Witch Dayton not carrying his math textbook was very solemnly seen. Although there were just nerds at the party they were still having fun because what you thought would be calm and quiet became wild and loud. Tina was in the basement and microwaving the bags of popcorn that Dayton had brought from his house. Shortly after she had come...

...especially my mom’s side of the family. My grandfather, Cipriano Liwag Caraos, or better known as Panong, was born of the 22nd of September 1910 in a small bahay kubo in the province of San Jose, Batangas. He became orphaned at a very young age and was raised by Bitong and his wife Francisca, the sister of his biological father, Segundo Caraos. Francisca and Benito temporarily took care of him until they had children of their own. Due to this, Lolo Panong was only able to attend school up to the 4th grade. Later on, he stayed with his uncle Tranquillo Caraos in the small town of Tiaong Quezon. There Lolo Panong started earning on his own, involving himself in buying and selling products mainly in the fish industry; like trading kulambo in exchange for tinapa. Not so long after this, he started buying pieces of land in able to expand his business and soon became part of a Civic group named Kipaba-kilusang pang bayan, an association of prominent coconut buyers in Tiaong Quezon. On a regular sunny day, as Lolo Panong came along as a merchant from San Jose, he was able to witness the beauty of a young woman who would change his life forever. This young woman, Lorenza Amat, or better known as Isang, was an intern at the St. Agnes Academy in Lipa City Lorenza and Cipriano were loving parents to 15 children...

...In physics, acceleration is the rate at which the velocity of a body changes with time.[1] In general, velocity and acceleration are vectorquantities, with magnitude and direction,[2][3] though in many cases only magnitude is considered (sometimes with negative values for deceleration). Acceleration is accompanied by a force, as described by Newton's Second Law; the force, as a vector, is the product of the mass of the object being accelerated and the acceleration (vector). The SI unit of acceleration is the meter per second squared (m/s2). For example, an object such as a car that starts from standstill, then travels in a straight line at increasing speed, is accelerating in the direction of travel. If the car changes direction at constant speedometer reading, there is strictly speaking an acceleration although it is often not so described; passengers in the car will experience a force pushing them back into their seats in linear acceleration, and a sideways force on changing direction. If the speed of the car decreases, it is usual and meaningful to speak of deceleration; mathematically it is acceleration in the opposite direction to that of motion. Acceleration is a vector quantity, so it has a magnitude and a direction. The sign of a vector quantity indicates the direction that the vector is pointing. Acceration = dV/dT or change in velocity/change in time Positive acceleration means that the change in velocity over change in time is positive, so the object is accelerating...

...In “The Tamarisk Hunter,” Paolo Bacigalupi tells the story of a tamarisk hunter, Lolo, working for more access to water throughout California. Lolo plays the system by reseeding the tamarisks so that he gets more water and he makes a living doing this. However, by the end of the story, the “guardies” (259) reveal to him and his wife, Anne, that the Department of Interior is “shutting down the water bounty payout program” (260) that provides Lolo with income. Throughout the story, there is a juxtaposition between those who are legally allowed to have the majority of water supply, and those who do not have a right to the water that flows through their land. One of the most consistent markers that Lolo uses to address those with access to water...

...the few men considered to be the greatest man that’s ever lived. When I think of the greatest man that ever lived I don’t think of those names. I think about my grandfather, Roberto Littaua, but I called him Lolo Bob. He died ten years ago, January 29, 2005, from a brain tumor in the Philippines. That was a tragedy for my family and I, especially for me because I was still young, and I could have done so much more with him. A memory I remember was how he would smile whenever he saw me at my happiest times like one Christmas day when I was playing with a new toy I got, as he sat in his rocking chair, and just smiled. If I recall clearly, the toy I was playing with was a Redbox Semi-Truck Goodyear toy that would carry 40 cars, with 20 cars on each side of the truck. I would drag the truck around, and even grab the cars off the truck. Lolo Bob didn’t really say much because he was not much of a talker, but I remember clearly how he looked like. He was dark skinned, bald headed, but often had a wig on, and roughly 5’10”. That was a good time to live through. So what is the other memory I remember? Well that’s simple. The time when he had taught my brother and I how to play basketball. Basketball is a big thing that runs on both sides of my parents’ family. First, it was Lolo Bob who played basketball, and he became a national champion, a successful professional coach, and a hall of famer. After him, many of my uncles and some of my aunts from my mother’s side of the family decided...
