The repeating of a dark and dreary image that appears in the second stanza is a clear example of motif, and this repetition once again emphasizes the sadness, loneliness, and gloom that the speaker feels. In fact, the first, second, and fifth lines of the first stanza are repeated almost exactly in the second stanza. In this stanza describes more rain, more darkness, and more “never weary” wind. But however, in the second stanza it also gives the reader some new information. For the 1st time, the reader is given a short view of why the speaker is sad, even though it is a short glimpse.
