...Research Proposal Proposed North Bay Casino: Community Perceptions ADMN-2136 Proposed North Bay Casino: Community Perceptions Introduction On May 17th , 2012, the city of North Bay accepted the proposal from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation to build a casino. The proposal has created differing opinions within the population. The research we would like to conduct will be analyzing the perspective of North Bay residents to discern critical factors that shape their overall impression of the topic. Socio-economic and public health sentiments are considerations used in the proposed analysis. The population`s knowledge of the coming event, recognized opportunities and benefits, perceived risks, and philosophical views are components contributing to our research. Casinos have both positive and negative implications for a community, and community attitudes are instrumental in their success rates. Research Problem A casino coming to North Bay has brought up some controversy, whether the public believes the casino would be beneficial or have a negative impact on the community. We will determine whether the residents of North Bay are opposed or supportive of this decision (Conrad, 2012). We will uncover the resident's opinion of this decision. We will be analyzing the general interpretation of North Bay's residents and if the casino will improve tourism for this area. This could be an exciting attraction and improve the social quality of the city. Additional...

It is a sale contract in which the payment of the price is deferred and payable at a certain particular time in the future. It is a mode of Islamic financing used for property, vehicle, as well as financing of other consumer goods. Many members of the sons of liberty were from Massachusetts too and they were very crucial in spreading patriotic sentiments all over the states. Massachusetts held a very important role in the America’s fight for independence and as such it is very easy to see the cultural and historical significance of the state. In this essay we will look at the cultural contributions, persons, and socio-economic situations of pre 20th century Massachusetts DESCRIPTION Art Case Study: Faneuil Hall (source: Wikimedia. Image by Infrogmation) Faneuil Hall located in Boston, Massachusetts was commissioned in 1740 by Merchant Peter Faneuil to serve as market house. In its early days Faneuil hall also served as a Meeting hall for the people of Boston, hosting speeches and by prominent American leaders such as Samuel Adams ("Faneuil Hall."). Originally two story high, the original Faneuil Hall built by Scottish born artist John Simbert was rebuilt and expanded upon multiple times, once when it burned down in 1761 and in 1805 when Architect Charles Bulfinch expanded the building adding a third floor and increasing it to the 30m x 24m building today. The Architect John Simbert drew inspiration from English Country architecture. Rather than the more architecturally intricate style of baroque architecture which was widely popular in the 18th century Simbert opted for a simpler Georgian feel...

...Privatization of Prisons Private Prison, Inc. Introduction America has been getting tougher on lawbreakers. This is something that the public long has been demanding. The problem it creates, however, is a shortage of prison capacity to hold the increased numbers of convicted criminals. This has led to: prison overcrowding, sometimes prompting court actions against penal systems; rapidly rising operational outlays; and taxpayer resistance to the cost of new prisons. A partial answer to the problems of prison overcrowding and high costs may be the "privatization" of prisons. Costs and overcrowding problems are the driving force behind the privatization phenomenon. As a national average, it costs roughly $20,000 per year to keep an inmate in prison. There are approximately 650,000 inmates in state and local prisons. This costs taxpayers an estimated $18 billion each year. More than two thirds of the states are facing serious overcrowding problems, and many are operating at least 50 percent over capacity. Cost comparisons between private and government operation of prisons show frequent cost savings under private management. While the national average cost to hold a prisoner in a government run prison is $40 per inmate a day, many privately run prisons charge the governments on average lower fees. U.S. Corrections Corporation (USCC), a private company headquartered in Louisville charges Kentucky charges a daily fee of $25 per inmate. In their first year of operation in...

...Model unit frames constructed for experimental investigations were 1:3 scaled models of a typical 3 m x 3 m unit ductile frame. The full size unit frame was selected from a typical 4 storied, 3-bay portal frame of a building. The seismic loading on the frame was determined using an equivalent static method. The RC frame was then analyzed for the combined effects of gravity and seismic loading and was designed and detailed according to the ACI code provisions for ductile RC frames. Pushover tests were conducted on scaled models of ductile unit frames, directly braced by X and Knee steel braces. To design the X bracing and knee-bracing systems, the excess seismic load on each frame, due to the increased elastic stiffness of the combined RC frame and bracing system, was determined and the relevant braces were designed for these excess loads. Test outcomes indicate that the yield capacity and the strength capacity of a ductile RC frame...

Bays UCL Institute of Neurology and Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience Working memory declines with normal aging, but the nature of this impairment is debated. Studies based on detecting changes to arrays of visual objects have identified two possible components to age-related decline: a reduction in the number of items that can be stored, or a deficit in maintaining the associations (bindings) between individual object features. However, some investigations have reported intact binding with aging, and specific deficits arising only in Alzheimer’s disease. Here, using a recently developed continuous measure of recall fidelity, we tested the precision with which adults of different ages could reproduce from memory the orientation and color of a probed array item. The results reveal a further component of cognitive decline: an age-related decrease in the resolution with which visual information can be maintained in working memory. This increase in recall variability with age was strongest under conditions of greater memory load. Moreover, analysis of the distribution...

Alusaf was the sole primary aluminum producer in South Africa, operating 170,000 tpy of capacity at the existing “Bayside” facility at Richard’s Bay. Alusaf’s 1993 revenues were $220.2 million, up 1% from 1992. Income was $8.6 million, up 122% from 1992. A feasibility study for the proposed “Hillside” smelter had been completed over the past two years. During this time, South Africa’s political regime had undergone a dramatic transformation with the 1993 passing of the Transitional Executive Council (TEC) Bill. This bill removed absolute power from the hands of whites and created a multi-racial body that would share responsibility for organizing and overseeing the general elections to be held in April 1994. Within days, Nelson Mandela, leader of the African National Congress party, addressed the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid in New York, calling on the international community to lift sanctions against South Africa. The European Union, the Organization of African Unity, Canada, China, Sweden, Singapore, India, and the United States all responded quickly with announcements that they would begin the process of restoring normal economic relations with South Africa. Aluminum prices had fallen dramatically since the feasibility study was begun, as Russian aluminum continued to flood the market. Now, with aluminum...

...praises Asians; in truth, it has a counteractive effect on both the Asian community and other ethnic groups as well. Despite the existence of this model minority stereotype, Asians are not followers of the myth and altogether demonstrate it counterfactual. In Asian American Dreams, Helen Zia introduces the model minority myth through an article titled “Success Story of One Minority Group in the United States” where it explains it as a reasonably form of praise claiming “at a time when Americans are awash in worry over the plight of racial minorities, one such minority, the nation’s 300,000 Chinese Americans, is winning wealth and respect by dint of its own hard work…” (Zia, 46). This quote claims that Asian Americans are achieving a high degree of success solely due to their perseverance and hard work. In addition, they are also receiving the respect of the other racial minorities. Finally, although not mentioned in the article, the myth also claims that Asians not only do well in terms of the workplace, but are doing extremely well in terms of education....
