Long Night! A typical night at the Johnsons it was a Saturday night so Jimmy got to stay up until 10:00 at night. Jimmy always went to bed at 8:30 on week days but his parents let him stay up on weekends. It was a usual night for him he made popcorn and watched a movie until he had to go to bed. When the movie was done he began to brush his teeth. He would always try to sing the ABC’S while he brushed his teeth but without making a mess of course. When he was brushing he felt like someone was watching him or like there was someone else in the room, but there wasn’t. He finished brushing his teeth and told his parents goodnight and when upstairs to his room. When he layed down he thought his mom or dad was in there with him but no one

Reflective Essay About My Writing Analysis

...will produce a better paper if I work on it periodically rather than all at once before the due date. Writing a paper periodically allows my brain to take a rest between each night. While my brain does get a rest, writing periodically also allows me to think of new thoughts and ideas that I want to incorporate into my paper. Along with this idea, a strategy that doesn’t work as well for me is trying to do too much at once. For the Paradise Lost Analysis and British Literature Analysis, I tried to do everything in one night so I wouldn’t have to worry about it any more. This technique put even more stress on me and made me overwhelmed. Although my literary analyses seemed strong in my...

The MRT (Taipei Metro Rapid Transit System) has worked its way into being regarded as a convenient mode of transport. In this essay the MRT transit system's convenience will be assessed in terms of its schedule, comfort, and payment system. Firstly, the MRT's schedule is considered convenient due to its constant arrivals and departures from station to station. This allows users to have confidence in it as they are able to arrive at their destination on time. As long as the users set an approximation of the time required to reach somewhere, they are most likely to arrive punctually. Also, the availability of the MRT at late night hours is convenient, as it allows its users to spare more time on their daily recreations as they are able to have a transport system available until midnight. This also caters for the working population who work night shifts and are in need of such a service. Furthermore, the MRT has 70 stations, with a train departing approximately every three minutes at these various stations...

Dealing with Insomnia

...Summary Holcomb (2007) divides her article “Putting INSOMNIA to rest” into four main sections. The first section provides information on insomnia. The second section describes some causes and risk factors that are associated with insomnia. The third section explains types of treatments for people with insomnia. The last section gives a questionnaire that can help evaluate if someone may have insomnia. In the first section, Holcomb (2007) states “80% of patients with insomnia never tell their healthcare provider” (p 29). This number is significant because it is estimated that around 50 to 70 million Americans are affected by insomnia. As Holcomb describes, insomnia can affect all age groups, but it is more common in females and increases with age, stress, and medical conditions. According to Holcomb, Insomnia is defined as having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or wakening up refreshed. Insomnia can be either acute or chronic. Acute insomnia occurs in around 30% to 50% of adults and is described as insomnia lasting less than four weeks. Chronic insomnia occurs in around 10% to 30% of adults, lasts longer than four weeks, and is associated with daytime sleepiness. These number could be higher however, as Holcomb explains, because many people with insomnia do not tell anyone. In the second section of “Putting Insomnia to Rest,” Holcomb describes causes and risk factors of insomnia. Stress is one of the most common risk factors, which can also lead to anxiety and depression...

Sleep Debt

...Sleep debt In students’ life, it is common to stay awake all night to study or to write a paper. Students themselves consider this as pressed by competing schedules. Actually, students who have to spend their time cramming for an exam are a result of Boomerang. They spend their time which supposed to study by playing computer games, dazing, or just browsing the internet. They mistakenly believe that by ignoring the need to sleep could eventually make up the time they have wasted previously, as result; they could do well on the exam next day. It is understandable to think in that way. Because students do make an effort to achieve their goal, which is a higher grade they desire. After preparing for 24 hours staying awake, students went to the classroom confidently. They believe that their efforts would pay back. However, the result could be unbelievable. There was once a research done by participants from 44 college students. It turns out that sleep-deprived participants performed significantly worse than the no deprived participants on the cognitive task. However, the sleep-deprived participants rated their concentration and effort higher than the nondeprived participants did (June, Amy 512). This was exactly the same as what students who spend their whole night preparing an exam think. They believe they put more effort compared to students who sleep well before the exam day. It indicates that college students are not aware of the extent, to which sleep deprivation negatively...

Single Room Housing Research Paper

...Where will I be sleeping tonight? Never in my life have I ever had to ponder this question. I have never been at a place in life where I was unsure if I would have a warm bed and a roof to sleep under. Each night, tens of thousands of New Yorkers ask themselves this very question, and each night tens of thousands of them do not have a place to stay. In the bible, Jesus clearly tells us to care for the poor and needy. As well, in the book of Matthew, Jesus tells us of the two greatest commandments. The first is to love the Lord our God, and the second is to love our neighbors as ourselves. God did not intend for families to be on the streets each night searching for beds, therefore it is our job to care to the poor and needy and dedicate our...

Poaching Research Paper

...My proposed topic for my research paper is Poaching in Africa and how technology is helping stop and track the animals. Poaching has been around for as long as anyone can remember and has only grown worse. My argument for this paper is that if technology is used better and more efficiently, poaching can be to more of a minimum thus, minimizing the number of endangered animals. I decided to propose this topic because I feel that I can accurately research this topic and help myself and others learn. When we were first assigned this paper, I knew immediately that I wanted to do something involving animals preferably sea turtles. In the research workshop that we did in class, I searched Sea Turtles and Technology in the JSTOR database and realized that my search was entirely too broad as I gotten over 50,000 results. I narrowed it down to a specific type of turtle (a leatherback) and noticed that my search was now too narrow. I got a little frustrated and decided to wait and...

...control system, b) the company had lack of inventory control and management system, and c) Paul showed unethical behavior and influenced George to follow the same. Detailed analyses of each of the critical issues are discussed below with appropriate references. Quality Control The company did not seem to have an effective quality control system in place. The night shift employees were asked to complete the job without putting any emphasis on the quality of the product. The management was happy as long as the assigned job was completed within the period of night shift. The company provided no training to the employees (as evidenced by the instant hiring and putting George at work immediately with no training) on how to establish, monitor, and assure the quality of the product that they produced. The night-shift employees had no idea about the harmful effects of the polluted product on the consumers and the possible consequences the company would have to face for it. Not to mention that if the consumers get sick due to their poor milk product, the company could be sued and might even go bankrupt. The night shift employees could not see the big picture and were worried to lose only 500 gallons of milk. If the quality control system were in place Paul would not be thinking about removing the filters that could have resulted in producing a polluted milk product. Obviously, Paul’s ethics is tied to this wrongful thought process and will be discussed later in this analysis...

...Franconia High School, the Franconia Mail, the Franconia Diner, and, for special occasions - proms, for instance, or extramarital trysts - the Franconia Steak House, which Eugene and I called Marie's, not only because Marie Fortuna's husband caught her there, eating antipasto with her boyfriend, who happened to be the soccer coach at the high school, but because we couldn't stand to hear the word Franconia used one more time. Eugene and I were in business together, earning money for our escape from town by selling term papers, and June was our busiest time of the year. By the end of the month, however, we were no longer doing our best work. The pressure was on, the stupid among us had panicked, and I was writing all night. In part, I kept odd hours because my brother strongly disapproved of our venture, and Jason was so honest and good that a single look from him could make a person feel sordid and corrupt. But the real reason I was writing three or more papers at a time was that Eugene was in charge of the division of labor, and he'd divided it so that two thirds of the labor was mine. After all, he had started the business, so it was only fair that he administered everything, including our finances, which were kept in a joint savings account. Or at least, this was Eugene's line every time I complained. And when I really considered my situation, it wasn't so difficult to accept the deal he...

We chose this topic because, as students, we found how different students study in different styles interesting. We wanted to dive into the more specific details of these students study habits and work ethics. From studying early in the morning to reading various text books late at night, we though this could probably be caused by how they were raised and the environment they grew up in, especially regarding their parents’ treatment toward these students. Initially, we got major information we could use for our research during class. It was found that children behaved and grow up depending on how they were treated at home, after all, most of our lives start at home. Children with authoritarian parents, which entail parents who are very strict and implement rules just because they are the parent, tend to be rebellious and aggressive. Children with authoritative parents, or parents who stand in the center of strict control and leniency, tend to be obedient, responsible...

Writing a Research Proposal

...Writing a Research Proposal The Proposal A research proposal is the presentation of an idea that you wish to pursue. A good research proposal presumes that you have already thought about your project and have devoted some time and effort in gathering information, reading, and then organizing your thoughts. A research proposal is NOT a project to be thrown together in one night with ideas off the top of your head. Thus, one might say that the research proposal is a second step, following the selection of a broad topic. The actual proposal will indicate what analytical question you wish to address. The foundation of a good research paper is a good research question. Just a tree needs a good root system to grow to be strong, a good research paper needs a good analytical question. What does "analytical" mean? An analytical question can take different forms and no one form is necessarily better than others. What all analytical questions have in common is the fact that they are not merely descriptive. That is, an analytical question moves beyond the "what" and explores the "how," and the "why." A good analytical research paper will use "the what" as part of the answer to "the why." But it is obligatory to address a question beyond the "what." For example, a descriptive paper would ask: "What was Gorbachev's economic perestroika policies?" An analytical paper would ask: "Why did Gorbachev's economic perestroika policies fail?" As part of the paper, you would then review what the...
