Human beings recover from the death of a loved one differently. When a person is forced to move on and continue life without a loved one, it is difficult. In Our Town written by Thornton Wilder, Emily’s son and Mrs. Webb suffer losses of the same person, but it affects them differently. Emily’s son does not have a mother to grow up with. Mrs. Webb endured the same loss that the son had to go through, but to Mrs. Webb she lost her daughter. In the novel Sounder by William Armstrong, the mother of the main character lost her husband and her beloved dog. She had to go recover from these deaths too, even though it was hard. Thornton Wilder said, “We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

Webb undergoes multiple deaths containing loved ones. The death that impacted her life the most was the loss of her daughter Emily. Mrs. Webb grieved for awhile, but believed that life goes on. Life would never be the same without her child. Mrs. Webb would not get to observe her daughter grow into a mother, and have a big family. Her everyday life was affected by the deaths of the people around, but all she can do is move on. Even though she will miss her daughter greatly, she had to continue on living life without her. Mrs. Webb’s heart eventually would be filled again. She will always have a desire to see Emily, but she knew deep inside that she had to move on and keep
