Throughout history, many researchers have their own unique foundings. One such researcher was Louis Herman, whose research displayed that dolphins could understand and respond to language displayed by sound and visual signals. Dr. Herman was a New York City native who taught two dozen words to two bottlenose dolphins. His dolphins died several days before he died when he was 86 years old. The cause of his death was bile duct cancer. Additionally, he graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from City College of New York. In addition, he also received his doctorate from Pennsylvania State in 1961. Dr. Herman changed from a behavioral psychologist studying decision-making to an expert in animal language and oceanography.
