...Love and basketball As you know, your human and so am I and we are not perfect. We all will make mistakes in our life time at some point or another. Those mistakes we make we shouldn’t knock ourselves for. Instead, we should learn from our mistakes. There is one mistake that I made that stands out the most and that I regret more than others. I stopped playing basketball after my freshman year of high school. Not a day goes by that I don’t regret setting the ball down and walking out of Case Arena, my high school gym. Basketball has always been a ritual so to speak, in my family. When I learned how to walk as a baby, the first toy that was given to me was a basketball. Then before you knew it, I was learning the beginning fundamentals of the game. At the age of five was when the game of basketball was really being stressed to me. My mother made sure that I had one of those stand up basketball goals in my toy room. In addition, for the most part I would be in the toy room shooting the basketball for hours on in. Since I was young, the ball wouldn’t go in the basket most of the time of course, but it was the whole concept of bettering my skills and abilities. The years went by and I got older, and my skills began to better and better. Then one day I was in the fifth grade, on the team, and ready as ever to begin playing competitive basketball. My mom knew that when the season started up that she wouldn’t be seeing me as much anymore. The reason being was because I was outside...

...Growing up in North Carolina traditionally a basketball state, I was supposed to grow up to love basketball and Michael Jordan, but raised by a football loving father basketball was seldom on our TV. The only basketball we ever watched was when South Carolina played on TV. Seeing how that almost never happened because they were so bad, I never watched basketball as child. I played YMCA basketball up until the third grade, quitting because I was not good, was undersized , and did not have love for the game. I thought my basketball career was over. After all I loved baseball and football so I could just play them. I continued playing baseball and began to football, but after I learned a medical condition prevented me from playing football, I...

...were living in Virginia and my mom put me in my first basketball camp. It was fun to get on the court and practice and play with the other boys. I could not wait to get to practice each day. Some days I was tired and I realized that sometime you have to push yourself and work hard when you are a part of a team. There is no better feeling than after you have worked hard in practice and the coach calls your name to go on the court and play in a game. Touching the ball for the first time makes you nervous but when you hit the first shot the excitement takes over. Since I was a little boy I have watched basketball games with my mom. Seeing how exciting it is and how the fans go crazy when a player makes a basket made me want to become a basketball player when I grow up. Having learned these skills, my parent enrolled me in a basketball league in our local youth center; YMCA. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I was a pretty good six year old basketball player. Let’s just say I breezed through my 3 year of YMCA then I stopped playing basketball the whole incoming year thinking I was still one heck of a ball player. ...The Way Basketball Has Affected Me Sarah Ban Breathnach once said “Today expect something good to happen to you no matter what occurred yesterday. Realize the past no longer holds you captive. It can only continue to hurt you if you hold on to it. Let the past go. A simply abundant world awaits.” This means a lot to me because I play basketball a lot, so the days I do badly, I think will happen again the next day. But now I’ll learn to forget it so it won’t let me down again. When I was little, my friends and I played in a basketball league called “Upward.” I played in that league for most of my childhood. My friend Kevin played with me and he would sometimes give me pointers on how to improve my game. Now, when he comes over, he’ll teach me moves, He’ll show me channels on YouTube to look over in case I want to learn something. I’ll even show him some moves....

...I am short. There is no way of getting around it. Unfortunately it's not something I can hide. However, my love for basketball wouldn’t be deterred by my physical attributes. When I was younger, I was always the shortest kid in the grade and I was always made painfully aware of that whether I had to lineup with my piers or play sports with my piers. I had a deep love for sports, but specifically basketball. I would always watch basketball on tv, do fantasy basketball, and get together with my friends at any opportunity I had, to play basketball. Because of my love for basketball, I was very excited in the 6th grade to tryout for the school basketball team, which was the first grade where you can try out. Before tryouts, I was very concerned whether I would make the team because of my physical attributes such as my height. I always knew I had the skill and the intelligence to play the game, but I didn't know if my height would let me get over the hump. After tryouts, the coach told me that I made the team. However, he gave me the option to quit the team because chances were that I wasn't going to ever play. When the coach told me that, I was really taken back by it and questioned if I should bother staying on the team. I was really down on myself, but my family and friends convinced me that I had to give it a shot and be on the team. After the first game, I was devastated and mortified in front of my family that I never had the chance to get in the game. Despite...
