Case Study

...Melanie Gothman Date U03a1 BUS3050 Case Study: I Thought I Gave Them Everything Case Summary This case study is really relatable in any work situation. Most upper level managers really strive like Henry did to turn certain business aspects around and expect employees to follow their lead. Henry worked so hard to grow sales that he lost focus on employee motivation. Motivation differs for every individual and good managers understand what their employees need and how to relate to that. Henry made the mistake of assuming that all of his employees would be motivated by a successful sales approach. With his employees asking to transfer locations that approach to motivation is called in question. Theories of Motivation Henry and his employees had different needs in regards to motivation. By looking deeper into the case study I would say that Henry relates with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory and he put his employees into the Skinner’s Positive Reinforcement Theory. Maslow’s Theory involves five needs: Physiological needs, Safety and security needs, Love and social belonging, Esteem and prestige, and Self-actualization. In this case study Henry related his needs directly to the store. Henry poured everything he had into growing the sales of the store and turned it around to be successful. By doing that he met all 5 needs of Maslow. Henry has the esteem of being the number 1 Quality Foods, knowing that his hard work secured his job he fulfilled safety...

Abraham Maslow

...theory that can describes the woman from the case study.  Maslow’s hierarchy explains how the woman stepping stones are needed in order to face and change her feelings of anxiety and panic.  The last tear of the pyramid shows the hierarchy ability to express physiological needs.  These needs include the need to satisfy hunger and thirst (Stangor, 2010. P. 345).  Next on the pyramid is the safety needs.  These needs include the need to feel that the world is organized and predictable, the need to feel safe, secure, and stable (Stangor, 2010. P. 345).  It seems to me that this would be the place to start while working with the woman in the case study.  The client in this study has recently moved to a different state where everything is different and unknowledgeable.  She no longer has the safety of her friends and extended family around her to support her. The main goal of this physiological problem to be manageable one would need to find a way to help her feel safe in her new surroundings. Relaxation, watching television, swimming and excising are what a person who suffered from anxiety can use for healing.  Once she has overcome her fear of the new environment she can meet and greet friends give parties and get acquainted with individuals who are hungry for love and thirst. She might be more comfortable with her surroundings, and her safety need would be met.Next on the pyramid is love and belonging.  This includes the need to love and be loved, to belong and be accepted, the...

...equality and access to resources that have been made in the past 50 years, one would think that the percentage of the population who have achieved self-actualization would have increased. While there are no studies to ascertain whether this is or is not the case, there are a number of factors to be taken into consideration that act as barriers to self-actualization which I will now discuss. In the past 50 years, society in which we live has made a shift to being one that in largely concerned with materialism. As a result of this, from a young age individuals are becoming more and more materialistic and are focusing on obtaining the latest electrical gadgets, cars and footwear. The media plays a large part in this. Today even without leaving our house we are subjected to materialistic images on the television and in the newspaper, all of which subliminally affecting how we prioritise our needs. The media not only drives our desire for materialistic goods, but it also plays on our basic needs for ‘self esteem’ and ‘love and belonging, all of which is intrinsically linked. For many people, especially teenagers and adolescents, they believe that if they acquire these material goods then they will gain social acceptance from their peers, thus meeting their need for love and belonging. Similarly, for others who buy into the ideology of ‘retail therapy’ they feel the need to purchase material goods they have been sold through...

Ethel’s Chocolate Lounges

...Ethel’s Chocolate Lounges This report is based on a Case Study: “Ethel’s Chocolate Lounges: Back to the Future? Chocolate Lounges Taste Sweet Success”. The report will reflect on four points: describing the types of consumer buying decision to indulge at Ethel’s, the consumer’s influences of time and money spent at Ethel’s, what motivates Ethel’s customers and finally exploring the needs the customer experience appeals to most. CONSUMERS BUYING DECISIONS As noted in the Case Study the chocolate house dates back to the 17th Century as a place where the elite socialites would indulge on chocolate treats and sip hot chocolate in luxurious surroundings and in upscale boutiques. Ethel’s founded in 1911 in honor of the matriarch of the Mars family who made chocolate treats in their home becomes Ethel’s Chocolate Lounge in Chicago, IL in April 2005. Ethel’s idea of being the “Approachable Gourmet Chocolate” gives its customers gourmet chocolates with reasonable prices. Consumers buying decisions usually fall into three categories: routine responses behavior, limited decision making and extensive decision making and five factors: involvement, time, cost, information search, and number of alternatives. Motivation

...Name Institution Instructor Date The first thing to understand in the project is that there was a shortage of man power at the site. Reduction in productivity can be caused by very many factors including lack of motivation or lack of necessary equipments to work with (Maslow, Abraham H,1954). The case of the first foreman who said that he wished they are had abundant man power he could have flushed out the loafers, thus statement by itself is not relevant in this case. For the foreman to comment, he could have first gone to the field and do a deep research for the reasons behind poor productivity of the project. In most cases flushing out of the man power is not always a source of motivation but may sometimes act like one. On the other hand, retrenchment sometimes increase productivity since each and every worker always tries his or her best to improve on his or her productivity in order to prevent him or her from being fired( Bindra, Dalbir, and Jane Stewart, 2001). Therefore the statement by the first foreman can act as a motivation even if it is not the best. The second statement about the goldbricks is not at all a motivation in any way. There is no work that can become successful or productive without the cooperation of each and every party involved in a particular project (Maslow, Abraham H., and Robert Frager, 1987). The foreman says that he could trust some people in the project that is the crew foreman and the journey men but he disrespected the boomers. If...

The Gifts Of Imperfection Analysis

...I have never been the type of person to pick up a self-help book, let alone purchase one, but when I was given the book list for this independent study course, something about Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection spoke to me. I have always struggled with feelings of imperfection and finding a way to overcome my own issues with worthiness. I never thought a self-help book could change my life, but having read The Gifts of Imperfection cover to cover, I find myself being a firm believer in their power. This book is nothing like what I presumed a self-help book to be like. Brown does an excellent job of exploring self-worth and wholehearted living from the perspective of an average person, including personal stories alongside her research into the subject. Instead of giving the reader a “quick fix” to all of their problems, Brown leads them on what feels like a side-by-side journey to discovering their own worthiness, and shows them...

Harley Case

...MKT 351-01 Case Study 1: Harley Davidson Posse Ride After enduring the challenges offered on the long road of the Posse ride, and becoming close with the riders, it is clear that H.O.G’s rolling rallies provide much more than mere marketing opportunities. They provide a sense of family among old friends and new acquaintances, all with the same love of the road. For many people an ideal vacation is going on a cruise or taking a trip to a warm Caribbean get away, but for the dedicated H.O.G. members the road is their vacation. Even the presence of the whole family can be seen on H.O.G.’s rolling rallies. When looking at the three fundamental purposes for the creation of Harley Owners Group in the 80’S, it is easy to see that rolling rallies fulfill all three. Although the presence of outlaw biker gangs has become nearly extinct today, there is still that negative stereotype that comes with the Harley. When you look at members of the Posse ride, and those of other rolling rallies for that matter, you see not a group of hardened criminals, but a group ordinary people enjoying what they love. You see a group of mostly middle age, normal working class people. This image shines new light on Harley owners, and helps dissolve stereotypes of the past. Rolling rallies have gone above and beyond in the aspect of enhancing the Harley Davidson lifestyle and experience. They give opportunity for members to experience being a Harley rider in a whole new way. Members are given the chance...
