The theme of love, specifically the challenges of being in love, is seen in both “The Great Gatsby” by author F. Scott Fitzgerald and “The Silver Linings Playbook” by author Matthew Quick. Love is shown in “The Great Gatsby” with the quote "She didn't know you were alive. It started halfway through the year after the winter break, the winds were so strong and cold we had to stay indoors for recess I noticed her sitting near her friends, that's when I realized I liked her, something about how giving she was as a person, she would give up her recesses to push other kids on the tire swing even if she didn’t get a turn, throughout the following weeks I started to spend more time near the tire swing, eventually I asked “Wouldn’t you like to get on the tire swing instead of pushing it” Her face lit up and she replied “Yeah do you want to take turns pushing each other” I gesture her to get on the tire swing and she quickly gets on almost falling off the worn out black tire, this went on for a few weeks, until we became friends and then one time during break there was some commotion because I brought fruit snacks to class and everyone else tried to trade snacks with me but I wouldn’t trade until Sarah asked me to trade that’s when I changed my mind about snack trading, afterward during recess I walked up to friend, Max, and asked him to talk to Emily which was Sarah’s best friend at the time about whether or not Sarah liked me back, a day later Max comes back to me and tells me what happened “Emily told me that Sarah likes you but more as a close friend”.
