Preparing to Write

A Level 1 heading is centered and bold

A key to quality construction of a systematic approach to writing is developing an outline that includes all assignment criteria (Hacker & Jones, 2009). Once the outline is created, one can build support by identifying resources that are applicable to the outline topics. The outline with sources identified and evaluated provides a framework which should make writing the paper easy. Preparing an outline is an essential step in writing. It will help with organization of the paper and suggest logical headings and subheadings. However, the outline is not typed into the paper. It is merely an organizational tool that results in a more focused paper.
The word “and” separates two authors from the same source in the text.

The Lost Generation Through Cohn, Brett and Jake

...pre-war values, mainly due to the fact that the war had little impact on him, unlike Jake who was injured in combat, or Brett, who lost her true love during the war. They all have characteristics that are similar with many people who were a part of what Gertrude Stein called “the lost generation”, a generation of people whose previous values were figuratively destroyed by the outbreak of World War I, and they wandered the post-war world without guidance, without a purpose. (Britannia 1 ) This is because Hemingway created these characters to symbolize a large portion of people in the 1920’s, through the characters attitudes, lifestyle and personalities. In doing so, Hemingway uses these three characters to represent different groups of people within the lost generation. Robert Cohn represents the people of the lost generation whose lives had been unaffected directly by the war, and those who still continued to live by failed the pre-war values of romance, morality and honor. Many of these people were outcasts; they were different, just like Cohn, and Cohn knew what it was like to be different. He spent a good portion of his life feeling like an outcast due to the fact that he was Jewish and Cohn never served in World War I, and was therefore typically scorned by people who had seen combat, like Jake. Cohn holds onto these traits because he had never seen the full extent of the war, and he reads books that are more about romanticism than reality. At one point Cohn wants to go to...

Comparing Relationships In Rose For Emily And Fredrickson's Up

...Love is an attachment that can’t be broken. Relationships are a representation of love and what love embodies. In a “Rose for Emily” By William Faulkner, Emily Grierson deals with the struggles of relationships from family to friends. Emily deals with problems of separation and feeling lied to. Emily’s struggles can compare to that of Charlie Fineman of “Reign Over Me” and Carl Fredrickson of “Up”. Within all these movies we see characters deal with relationships being lost. They all relate to death but the love in each relationship Is never lost. When we see the loss of a relationship it is most often difficult to let go afterwards. Sometimes in relationships we let go and it’s a choice but when death is a factor we see that we have no choice....

Compare & Contrast Annabel Lee & Luke Havergal

...Robinson is a poem about a man who has lost a lover and being talked into following her into the afterlife. Annabel Lee written by Edgar A. Poe is a poem also about a man who has just lost a lover and is remeniscing on their life together and how she was pretty much stolen from him. In the both poems, the diction the authors chose to use is what helps set the style of the poem. It also helps the reader understand the characters and the situation. In Luke Havergal, the it tells the reader who the subject and narrator are. For example “Out of a grave I come to quench the kiss” (18). We know the narrator is saying they’re coming from beyond the grave so it’s probably a ghost or spirit. Because of the word kiss, we would assume a romantic relationship between the two. But the narrator uses the term ‘quench’. The dictionary definition of the word quench is to satisfy a thirst by drinking. If the narrator would kiss the subject to make him feel satisfied it’s possible that they didn’t love each other at all. The subject could have possibly loved the narrator but the narrator did not return those feelings. In Annable Lee the the narrator creates this atmosphere of a day-dream. The opening lines a god example; “It was many and many a year ago, in a kingdom by the sea”(1-2). It’s a similar opening to that of a fairie tales “Once upon a time, in a far away land”. And this state if reverie continues even after the death of his beloved. “For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams...

Eternal Security

...The Eternal Security of the Believer Whether or not a saved person can be lost again is a much discussed, a much disputed question. Certainly the devil hates for one to believe that a Christian is safe because this would give God all the glory. The doctrine of security gives no credit to the devil or to humans. God gets all the glory for saving and keeping. So it is the doctrine that the devil hates more than any other. Therefore if one dislikes this doctrine, you know whose side he is on. The words "eternal security" are not found in the Bible. But neither is the word substitute, or the word Trinity. Yet Christians have always believed that Christ was our substitute; that God is a Trinity. Though the exact word that we may use is not found in the Bible, the teaching is there! The terminology used by some when discussing the doctrine of the safety of the Believer may not be found exactly per say but the teaching is there, without doubt. The Bible says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous runeth into it and is safe." (Proverbs 18:10) "The fear of man bringeth a snare, but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe." (Proverbs 29:25) The word "safe" used in both these verses, is an absolute term. You cannot be half safe. If you are only half safe then you are not safe. If you are safe then you are not in any danger. You are not safe until you are completely out of danger. The Bible says those who have trusted Christ are safe. The Bible is either right or...

Natural Connections

...Natural Connections Heather Conway ENG/106 January 20, 2014 Nikki Moorman Natural Connections Early works of literature show many concepts of emotion from anger and wrath, to love and devotion. In these works, it is sometimes not easy to find what the author is tying say or convey when it comes to his or her work. As a reader, it can be difficult to comb through what the author is trying to establish in their work, whether it be love, hate, envy, or a personal struggle for the intended characters. In some of the more modern works, it is apparent that romantic emotion is a constant and can easily be discerned from each individual piece. In John Keats’ “Ode to a Nightingale”, it is automatically assumed that the narrator is speaking of something that is loved. In this case, it appears as if the narrator is speaking of a bird, but it can also be said that he is speaking about a love, or lover, that he had once and then lost. In the first stanza, the first line, it suggests that he is missing a piece of himself, and his ‘heart aches’. He later describes this ache as the complete opposite of what it is to be in the ‘singest of summer in full-throated ease.’ (pg. 2160, 10) As the poem continues, Keats continues to use descriptions of nature and other things, showing a true connection there between the way the narrator feels and how it compares to certain aspects of nature and natural things. In the second stanza, the narrator continues to describe his heart break, and the...

'Unconditional Love In The Grapes Of Wrath'

...To find love and feel supported or not alone in this messy world is most rewarding. However, this love can be lost unwillingly. This is why unconditional love is so precious to individuals; it risks being lost in the events of life leaving a major void in our hearts. Moses a slave in the Jones’s novel had this support and unconditional love, what he had was Bessie. Bessie was his home in a world where he was not to have a home; he wasn’t supposed to feel loved or of any worth much less a person. He and Bessie were torn apart against their greatest wills , “we together, her and me, Don’t pull us apart. We together…” (172). Destiny of the Unsaved

...12 Essay 4 The Destiny of the Unsaved The quotation from Clark Pinnock refers to the belief of annihilationism. This belief holds that after death humans cease to exist. There is therefore no eternal punishment for the unsaved. They will simply die and be burnt up and no longer exist. Another belief that offers an escape from eternal punishment is known as universalism. Universalism holds the belief that all men will be reconciled to God. Atonement is not just for those that accept the salvation of God but to everyone. We as Christians hold to the doctrine of eternal punishment for the lost. A person who never accepts the Lord will go to a place of torments after they die. The bible plainly tells us that sin will be punished. This punishment will be given in a place called Hell. The bible refers to hell as a place of fire, Matt. (8:12), a place where the fires never go out, Mark( 9:43). It is a place where there is eternal darkness Matt. (8:12), and where the worm will not die Mark (9:48).1 The worst thing about hell will be the eternal separation from God. The word hell has been defined in different ways. The old testament uses the word Sheol. Sheol is a place where no one can save themselves. Ps. (89:48), it is the place where people go when they die Genesis. (37:35) (44: 29, 31) A place where the wicked go upon death Job (21:13), also a place the righteous are saved from. Ps.
