...Could he be my true love, or can others not accommodate true love that is not there own? This has been brought to me so suddenly. Is there someone else out there, someone who I will truly love? Why has such conflict come upon me? Should I agree to marry him, or wait for someone who may never come? Now it seems almost inevitable that I will be engaged to Paris, an arrangement of love, and one that I may not agree with. But there is nothing I can do, I would never dream of defying what parents think is best for me, and for another boy that may never come. For now, I feel my love has been assigned to Paris. I must go to the party, where I am to meet my supposed true love and dance the night away. (After the party) Tonight I have found true love. Not arranged or forced, but love at first sight. Romeo. I name I will remember forever. He was so perfect. But, like any other good match, it will never work. For he is a Montague and I am a Capulet. Two extreme differences, ones so extreme, we may never be together unless our love is secret. Yet another conflict brought about into my life. My love has been given to a Montague, because of this our love for each other may never be accepted. There are now two men, one who I love truly, and one who I should rightfully love. Should I defy my parents, go behind their backs and love someone who I should not rightfully love? Or should I go with Paris, a respectable man, accepted by my parents but one whom I do not truly love. What is more important...

...Literature has always explored the theme of love. Love cannot be defined in just one way, there are several different types of love. Three types of love that can be found often in classic readings are eros(romantic), philia(friendship), and familial, or the love of family(“The 7 Types Of Love”). Love in literature is not far different than love in modern culture. The love titled philia can be found in The Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh has a strong love for Enkidu in the epic. Their love is solely the friendship they have. Gilgamesh wanted to fight Enkidu and destroy him to begin with. They were evenly matched as they were made alike. After Enkidu comes along, Gilgamesh changes his ways of being mean. They set off on a quest together to kill Humbaba, and together they succeed. The relationship between Enkidu and Gilgamesh is the heart of the Sumerian epic. Enkidu and Gilgamesh first meet as enemies and fight each other. It is during this battle that Gilgamesh comes to understand that his thoughts about women and life in general could be wrong. He learns from Enkidu and Enkidu learns and becomes more `civilized' through his friendship with Gilgamesh. When the gods...

...“Love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person, accompanied by a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection” (Gilman 439) Over the years, Ernest Hemingway’s novel A Farewell to Arms has met with harsh criticism regarding a number of issues within its storyline. Critics constantly pick apart the themes and motifs present within the story in an attempt to pinpoint exactly what he meant and why he wrote it in the manner he did. One of the most debated topics in the story is that of love. Even after years of debate, the vast number of critics has never been able to agree on the controversial issue of love in regard to one simple question: Was Frederic Henry actually in love with Catherine Barkley? Though numerous critical analyses are available as evidence to argue either side of the issue, it is my belief that the most compelling arguments are made by those critics who support the idea that Frederic Henry was in fact in love with Catherine Barkley. Throughout the whole of A Farewell to Arms, it is never made perfectly clear to the reader whether or not Frederic Henry is actually in love with Catherine Barkley. What in the end becomes such a passionate relationship starts off very different so the reader is never able to decide exactly where Henry stands. One critic, Melissa Howard, sees this in what is only their second encounter when Henry “...attempts to kiss her and she slaps him, however, rather than being dismayed he feels that...

...e x e C u t i v e f o r u m LeadING WItH LoVe IN a FearBaSed WorLd John Hope Bryant I n the poor neighborhood where I was raised, as in so many communities in the country, petty thugs preyed on individuals, but white-collar criminals in fancy suits also preyed on people’s ignorance. Individuals with a low level of basic financial knowledge were and continue to be easy targets for what I call bad capitalism. payday loan for $800; by the time he finished paying it off six years later, after rolling this payday loan over countless times, he had paid $15,000 in interest on that $800 loan. these businesses are in many cases shortterm-oriented, purely transactional business models that add little value, and even deteriorate the customer base they purport to serve. these businesses are ultimately led by one thing: fear. People are afraid to lift themselves up, to lead themselves out of their situation, to think for themselves. Bad capitalism preys mercilessly on these fears. throughout my journey from the inner city to my work as a social entrepreneur, I’ve had a front-row seat for witnessing how fear destroys a community. But I’ve also learned that there is another way to live and to do business. It took almost 30 years for me to understand that the antidote to fear is love. For example, during the recent subprime lending boom, people making $25,000 a year were lured by unscrupulous brokers and lenders into taking out $500,000 loans with low initial teaser rates that...

...Enlightenment Unity, a never ending circle. In some religion, life is thought of as a never ending circle. There would be those select few that would be able to escape this eternal circle to attain a certain spirituality. Many of these religions offer a final spiritual destination, it could be the promise of life after death, release from pain and suffering, or knowledge, the list is endless. This spirituality can be thought as a goal, which people are striving to attain. In Buddhism, the final goal can be called enlightenment, nirvana. There are many people throughout history that devote their lives to reach this final goal of enlightenment. Similarly in Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, the life journeys of Govinda, Gautama, Vasudeva, and Siddhartha show that everyone has a different way to reach enlightenment, but each way includes learning and love. Govinda, Gautama, Vasudeva, and Siddhartha had experienced a learning process in order to reach enlightenment. “Behold, then Govinda also stepped forward, the shy one, and spoke, ‘I too appeal to the Exalted One and to his teachings’, and asked for acceptance among the disciples, and was accepted” (26). This is when Siddhartha and Govinda went to the city of Savatthi, seeking to hear Gautama’s teachings. After hearing this many people along with Govinda stepped forward and asked to be accepted among the disciples. At that point in time one could not have possibly reached enlightenment without the prior knowledge and understanding...

...world. We all have our own point of view or opinion. I can agree or disagree with how you perceive it. That is what makes each of us our own individual and each one of of unique. We have our owns thoughts, beliefs, ideas and certainties. The existence of God is forever. There is no beginning and no end. One of God's attributes is love. He has loved his creations from the day that he formed man out of dust. God is a God that does not change, does not lie, does not change his mind as we a human beings do. The Bible shows that God reveled himself many times and in many ways. Each of these were to offer the insight into his personality, attributes of his character such as his love, his authority power and righteousness. When a man dies he who has been faithful unto the Lord will have eternal life. We have the glorious life that never ends. It is God's own life living in us. ...21 months ago I learned what it really feels like to love. My son was born March 2, 2012, at 6:48pm, weighing in at 8lbs 9oz. Since 6:48pm 21 months ago I have felt an unconditional love that I never knew existed. I cannot say for sure when I first started using the word love, but I can say that all my life up until my son was born I never really felt that I was capable of loving someone or something. I used to use this analogy in my head that if I loved someone I would care if they died, as in it would affect my life. I tried other scenarios, such as if I put the purposed loved one before my own wants and needs, but it never worked because I am the type of person who would always put others needs and wants before my own. In the same regard it didn’t mean love because I couldn’t care less if everyone disappeared, cause in the end I don’t really care for people as a whole all that much. So all I was left with was the death scenario, I knew once I found someone whom I could bear losing that I had found my ability to love. I applied that theory to my parents, sibling, extended family, friends, and lovers throughout my life and the answer always left me not really loving anyone. I would tell those people I loved them because it gave them happiness, but for me it was an empty word because it held no meaning, and it always gave me a sad feeling to know I was essentially lying to them. I couldn’t very well just tell them I really cared for them but I didn’t care if they disappeared from...

...True Love – in the 21st century. I was inspired by my grandparents to write an essay regarding True love. Next month, my grandparents are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They have known each other since they were 14 years old, and I find it very remarkable. I find it astonishing how two people can keep their love for one another throughout for 50 years. It’s not every relationship that lasts for 50 years. There are so many movies, songs and poems about love. I guess it’s because it has such a big influence on our life. Considering what my grandmother told me, I asked her how they preserved their love for each other, she said. “It’s a lot about honesty, trust, respect and tradition”. It has been a lot of hard work, she said, and they succeeded. There will always be ups and downs in a relationship, but that’s the beauty of it. When 2 people are trying to solve their problems together and it hits you that this is something that you both want. That’s when you know that he / she is the one. Standing on the doorstep to my adult life, is certainly emotional. I’m surrounded by true love every single day. And it makes me think about, when is it my turn? When is it my turn to experience true love? The thing I’m trying to say is that, it would be nice to have someone to hold on, and feel out the lonely nights. I have never been in real relationship or been in love. Love in the 21st century: Back then it was till death do us part, but now it’s when our love...

...Love The concept for love, this is one that for centuries has been tried and errored, as well as found and lost. Either way though, love, has ended in success, or failure. Whatever the reasons may be, it would seem as if love is not dictated by the world but by the individual, or individuals who are proclaiming love to the world. Most of these individuals who profess and or proclaim love would tell you their story of how they found love with each other or for themselves. Some of these stories would be glorious, and some would be told as if they live a tragic life. All in all, though the concept of love is so vague and yet so vast, my concept of love is one of few or many one would say. So think what you will as this is my concept of love. My concept of love can be found across the ages of time, in books, poems, movies, and all forms of the ancient arts both physical evidence and written or drawn evidence can be found. “…4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres…” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 New International Version (NIV). The Bible. This is such a powerful passage of wisdom when it comes to love. Why this is so powerful is because, love takes time, and time is love. We must have patients with things...

...What Type(s) of Love is Portrayed in A Midsummer’s Night Dream Written by William Shakespeare In the play A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, there are many different types of love that are portrayed. While I feel that this play is more along the lines of a comedy and tragedy rather than love, Shakespeare did his best to portray this as a love story. “The course of true love never did run smooth” (Shakespeare, 2010, 1.1.134). This leaves you wondering is true love found in this play or do we find ourselves seeing other types of love as well. One of the first types of love portrayed in A Midsummer’s Night Dream is parental love. Parental love is often defined as, the love of parents towards their children (Allwords, 2018). Anyone who is a parent understands that this love runs deeper than any other type of love, at least that is the way that I feel. As a mother to six, and a wife, I have found myself with a deeper love for my children than I do for my husband at times. This is portrayed with Egeus and Hermia. Egeus is the father to Hermia, he has shown his self to be very commanding and...

It is described as the most natural, emotional feeling because it is outcome of love due to family ties. Fatefully, it is the strong point what makes it the most defenseless. The affection is “built-in” and as a consequence people expect it. Prologue This poetry anthology is a collection of poems, which shows the people's view of love. As I am a hopeless romantic, I chose this topic. I think the journey that life takes us all on is one filled with many adventures. I believe to truly live life to the fullest would be to love.
