When a couple gets espoused they make a vow in front of their dotted ones and their God to be together for the rest of their lives and abide by each other. ...or perceived as inhumane or unjust by specifically focusing on unorthodox religions during a twenty year period between the 1950’s through the 1970’s. The research focuses on five different unorthodox religions: The People’s Temple, founded by Jim Jones, Heaven’s Gate, founded by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, Scientology, founded by L. Ron Hubbard, Children of God, founded by David Berg, and Branch Davidians, founded by David Koresh. Langone, M. D. (1995). These five unorthodox religions or cults may have had or have different doctrines and practices, but research shows that they may all share the common trait of being inhumane or unjust. Rationale/Thesis Statement In the International Cultic Studies Association article, by Dole and Eichel (1985), a survey was conducted about dangerous practices associated with cults and referenced different actions that they deemed destructive, from coercion to enslavement, which they believe to be inhumane and unjust. This research study will attempt to uncover some of these practices and find out what draws people to these unorthodox religions or cults. Likewise, this research project also attempts to determine the point at which practices become inhumane or unjust. It’s interesting to note, that three out of the five unorthodox religions or cults included in this research were started in the mid-1950’s, at around the time of frequent U.F.O. sightings in the southwest United States. “And I looked, and behold, there were four...

...Love a la Mode Certainly, the play can be seen as a dramatic presentation of varieties of love in the England of the year 1700. Central is the delicate handling of the love game as played by Mirabell and Millamant. They represent the ideal of the Restoration attitude, intense yet balanced, their love based on mutual esteem with no surrender of individuality. Contrasted with it are Mirabell's earlier and quite ambiguous love affair with Mrs. Fainall; the illicit love of Fainall and Mrs. Marwood, presumably passionate, but wholly without mutual trust; the spurious court young Witwoud pays to Millamant; the direct and somewhat coarse approach of Sir Wilfull; and, at the opposite extreme completely, the aging and undignified longings of Lady Wishfort, vain, unrealistic, over-eager, desperate, and a little pathetic. Love and Money Such an approach is closely related to that of love a la mode, although they are not identical. In the world whose way is presented here, love and money are values to be taken into account at all times. The sincerity of Mirabell's love does not make him lose sight of the importance of Millamant's fortune. Fainall marries for money to support an illicit love; apparently the thought of marrying Mrs. Marwood without adequate money (however "adequate" might be defined) is unthinkable. Money is Lady Wishfort's sole hold over her child and her ward. Even the marriage of the servants is built on a promise of a handsome sum of money. This is the world's way. Love...

...The main consequence of a welfare free society is that many people will be very unhappy. One should expect this aftereffect because of man's nature to want to receive without doing anything to earn it. These people enjoy the flow of funds from the government without them having to work for it. One good example of this consequence is the recent occurrence in the country of Greece. Jacob G. Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation, wrote an article entitled "The Bankruptcy of Greece's Welfare State." In this article, he stated, "Rather than cut the dole to match the tax revenues, which will make the dole recipients angry, the government proceeds to borrow the difference and continue increasing the amounts paid for the dole." For this reason, the country of Greece is now bankrupt (Hornberger). This event occurs to a country when many of its people are dependent on welfare. When a country becomes bankrupt, it has no money; and when it has no money, welfare recipients cannot receive any funds. Naturally, those of Greece's people who were receiving funds from the government are not going to be happy with the present circumstances because now they have to work to make a living; that is, they will not be able to live life as easily as they did before. Hornberger also points out in his article that the United States will likewise become bankrupt if it...

In the movie, there is a rather quick and overly passionate relationship that develops between the “mean girl”, Regina George, and the love interest of the movie, Aaron Samuels. Firstly, the relationship happens for all of the wrong reasons. Regina only is with Aaron to spite her “friend” Cady Herron. In the text it defines fatuous love as, “passion and commitment in the absence of intimacy”...

...Administrative Ethics Jolinda Chavez HCS/335 July 24, 2011 Katherine Rossiter Administrative Ethics Core Problems in the Health System According to the article, Crossing Our Lines; Working Together to Reform the U.S. Health System, by Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, and Bob Dole, “The problems policymakers seek to resolve through comprehensive health reform are significant. Today, the nation’s health care system focuses primarily on treating illness and not improving population health. Additionally, health care spending and premiums are rising at a rate that is unsustainable for our nation’s families, businesses, and governments. Growth in health care costs is much higher than growth in wages and gross domestic product (GDP). Consequently, despite a wider range of better medical treatments becoming available, more and more people are struggling to afford even the most basic levels of care. Particularly in the face of the recent economic downturn, growing numbers of people are losing their jobs and the health benefits those jobs provide. Many others are finding that they can no longer afford to pay monthly insurance premiums and out-of-pocket cost sharing for needed medical services. Rising cost trends also extend to public health care programs, with states forced to cut other services, including education, to maintain their Medicaid programs. The federal government’s long-term fiscal problem is largely related to cost and demographic trends that are causing unsustainable...

...In this interesting play, Hamlet, by Shakespeare, I've learned of the tragic events Prince Hamlet has dealt with. Starting from mourning his fathers death, King Hamlet, and than shortly after that his mother, Queen Gertude marries his uncle, Claudius. The play starts out introducing us to the watchmen, Horatio, Marcellus and Bernardo. There is a ghost on the platform of the castle that reappears around the same time every night. Other than horrify the men the spirit does not speak to them. The play than goes into the next scene in which the now, King Claudius is making a speech. His speech a mockery to Prince Hamlet says things of the sort, "With mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage, In equal scale weighing delight and dole--'' By this he is saying that the death of his brother although being very sad is balanced with happiness in the marriage to his brothers widowed wife, Queen Gertude. To add insult to injury Claudius tells Hamlet not to mourn for too long, that is normal to lose a father and to think of him as a father instead! "How is it that the clouds still hang on you?" "Whose common theme is death of fathers, and who still hath cried, from the first corse till he that died to-day, 'This must be so.' We pray you, throw to earth this unrevealing woe, and think of us as of a father." From this interaction between King Claudius, Queen Gertude and Hamlet in Act 1, Scene 2, we learn that the only one still in mourning is Prince Hamlet, which shows he is the only one of...

...A B C LIFE = A Balance Christian Life (Colossians 3:18-21) “Wife, submit to your own husband, as is fitting in the Lord. Husband, love your wife and do not be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. Parents, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” There are 4 areas in LIFE. Each of this area is not to be pursuit independently; but interdependent to each other; and that converge to a Central Object. What is this Central Object? It is our BELIEF; and that is FAITH in a Living GOD Our faith life is a marathon. It is a Divine Commitment to a lifelong spiritual race. Faith in God is the Central Concept of Christianity. One may be called a Christian only; if one has faith in God. Through faith there is a personal relationship with our God, our Father. In the O.T. the concept of faith is to ‘accept and believe’ God’s covenant; to trust in His Word that He alone is God and to commit one’s life to His promises for the present and future. The N.T. concept of faith is the same in principle. It is ‘have faith in God, and our Lord Jesus.’ Paul declared: “I know WHOM I have believed.” (2Timothy 1:12) He knows a PERSON, the Lord Jesus. He DID NOT say: I know WHAT I believed. That means, he did not believed just in Doctrine, Religion, and not even his own faith; but it is ‘believe and faith in Lord Jesus Christ’. Our God is a Sovereign God and also a Personal God. Even He controls the whole universe; but...

...transforms emotionally as he gains a new conceptual understanding of literal sacrificial love. As Amir explains the circumstances from his own perspective, “Baba [wrestles with] bears his whole life. Losing his young wife. Raising a son by himself” (PAGE # - Chpt 13). However, the personal testament of viewing such a heart wrenching fatality, is not enough to fully demolish Baba’s relational barriers of detachment and distance. As a standoffish man, Baba is minimal in outward expressions of affection and concern towards Amir. Nonetheless, he is financially savvy and ensures his wson receives the utmost blessions money provides. Living in a society flooding with illiteracy and poverty, Amir has the privilege to attend to school, yet dreads the “long school days sweating in tightly packed, poorly ventilated classrooms learning to recite ayats from the Koran, struggling with those tongue-twisting, exotic Arabic words” (97). Commonly complaining about all that Baba graciously doles, Amir lacks appreciation for his life impressive circumstances. In anaylsis of The Kite Runner, Doctor Horrible of Humanities 360 concludes that beyond Amir’s ample priveleges, “he is deprived of an emotional connection with his father, so he isvery jeaous of those who receive Baba’s attention” (SOURCE). Therefore, Amirs has a reciprocal deficiency because he is unable to recognize his father’s expressions of love. Nonetheless, Baba continues to offer all that he can muster, and, in turn, receives a status...
