Segregation of low-track students

Since many years ago, Education has been considered as one of the most complex fields in which human beings are involved. Nowadays, This field is subject of many researches because of the importance and the effects it has in society, that is why many schools have decided to use a mechanism which is been proposed to improve the learning process of students called “Tracking”.

The term Tracking refers to the separation schools make of students according to their overall achievements, which can be above average, normal or below average.This process in very common in English speaking countries. However, this is also practised in many countries of Sudamerica in which the concern about the influence of this separation causes long discussions and as teachers we need to know what to do in these cases.

In the mayority of the cases, Tracking causes the segregation of students with low-track since it produces an impact in the way teachers think about their students and the way students think about themselves. This is really important to take into consideration when we talk about classroom management. In schools where tracking is used, it is supposed teachers have a special training to work with students who are slow-learners in order to get the best of them and help them to feel as important as their classmates who are over their achievements, but, in the majority of the cases, this kind of students are left away and this has affects tremendously on their self esteem and self confidence.

How we can solve this problem is a question that many teachers have asked themselves when they see the results of tracking students and the solution are: Heterogeneous classes, where all the students can interact with each other and learn from each other; and a better teacher training, which could give teachers the tools and knowledge they
