After completing the LSI assignment, I have learned a lot about myself. Per the results of the LSI, my primary thinking styles are power at percentage of 65. My back-up percentile was humanistic-encouraging at 63%.

The results for my power thinking style is at a medium percentage compared to others that have taken the test. I didn’t think that power would rate as the highest percentage for me, though I did think that it would fall in the median level compared to others. I don’t see myself as using or wanting much power at my job. I don’t see that power is manifested much while I am working, but I do see it manifested in other things outside of my job.

I currently dislike my job and have no desire to be a part of the company; therefore, power is not anything that is manifested through my job. While I am working, I am more of a laid back person and I don’t feel the need to contribute any ideas. When I am working with others, I try to ensure that we are all at the same level, making others feel welcome and not make others feel as if they are inferior. When working with my peers, I try to establish equality.

On the other hand, when dealing with management, I tend to exercise my own power in that aspect. Unfortunately, I am working for a company that demonstrates bad management practices. Management at my job tends to try and intimidate others, and most staff members are afraid to speak up and are very timid. I was like that when I first started, but I realized how my company operates. The management team likes to exercise power, control and authority over all the staff members. They take advantage of those that don’t speak up. For the employees that do speak up, the management tends to test them

On the other hand, people who can objectively identify their strengths and weaknesses. In the rest of this paper I will try articulate my life behavior base on LSI test. I found that my primary behavior is “competitive” and my backup is “approval”. First of all, I want acknowledge that LSI test somewhat touches my primary behavior which is “competitive”. I believe being competitive thinking person helped me grew up rapidly in my career. ...LSI Paper Gloria Guzman guzmangloria@hotmail.com GM591 Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor Barbara Ward September 2, 2011 Personal Thinking Styles Well hello Gloria Guzman, it is so nice to visit you again. That is exactly what I thought when I completed my Life Style Inventory and saw my report. In my life time I have taken a few self-evaluating, personality-leadership-management surveys and I must say I always learn something new about myself and witness growth and maturity. My LSI primary style is Affiliative with a score of 36 out of 40 and an 83 percentile. My results are shown in appendix 1. Both the high score and the high percentile tell me that this style strongly describes how I see myself and behave. The affiliative style falls in the constructive styles category. In general, this category measures our level of satisfaction, our ability to establish healthy relationships and work effectively with people, and proficiency at accomplishing tasks. This style places high importance on family, friendship and business relationships. In my personal life it explains my dislike and avoidance of arguments and disagreements. I have been married 27 years, and yes I know it takes two to make it work but my high value of marriage makes me work harder at it. This style has shined a light on why people usually confine and trust me with their feelings. It takes me time to make a decision because I consider how other people are going to feel and be impacted...

...RUNNING HEAD: LSI Paper I am charged with the task of completing the Life Styles Inventory Survey to give a self-description of my thinking styles. The purpose of this assignment is to determine the impact that the personal styles have on my management style and to identify which one of my thinking styles may be reducing my overall effectiveness. After completing the survey, my circumplex shows that my primary thinking style is the “Conventional Style”(4 o’clock) and my backup thinking style is the “Power Style” (8 o’clock). I agree with the results of the conventional thinking style, but, I do not fully agree with the results of the power thinking style. According to the LSI results, the conventional thinking style is one that measures our inclination to act in a compliant way. Conventional thinkers worry about adhering to rules and established procedures. According to the LSI results, when we depend on on established procedures in determining how we do things, we risk losing our sense of uniqueness and individuality. I would have to agree with the results of this survey that I am a conventional thinker. As a child, my parents had very strict household rules that, simply, were not to my benefit to break. Therefore, I often abided by the rules. I think this is why I tend to do things strictly by the book. Doing things by the book gives me a sense of security in knowing that I followed the policy, in case something goes wrong. As a conventional thinker, I prefer...

...Life Styles Inventory Research Paper MGMT591 Leadership & Organizational Behavior Dr. Anne Hallcom July 22, 2012 Part I: Personal Thinking Styles Based on the information presented in the survey, it is clear to see that my primary personal thinking style is my affiliative style. The reason behind this is that I primarily like to make certain that I have support, if it is academic related, work related, or even related to my personal life. My capability to build these types of relationships with my fellow students, co-workers, or family and friends is something that I value very much. I am a strong believer that you learn more from the various environments that around you as opposed to a workbook from school or other methods of development from work or even personal life standards. Some other ways that my affiliative style is apparent in my work is that I am helpful when it comes to getting a problem solved with a customer or even if the customer has a question that they do not have the answer to. In addition, when it comes to a customer, I am very warm and open to them when they first come and talk to me and then once they are done telling their problem/question I am able to share my thoughts on what the issue is. After that, I am then able to go ahead, take care of the issue, and reassure them that it is going to be taken care of. Now here are some ways that the affiliative style is apparent in my life. One way is that I am always willing to lend...

...LSI Paper Introduction The Life Style Inventory (LSI) is a survey in which one can identify their underlying thoughts and motivations that may shape their individual behaviors. The LSI is a series of self identifying questions which are scored and results tabulated. The results are scored in 3 major categories; constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles. The three major categories are then broken down further into twelve subcategories. Enclosed will be a copy of the results of the LSI I have taken. Also, in the following, I will identify my primary and back up thinking styles and any styles that may be limiting my professional effectiveness and ways to overcome those obstacles. I will also discuss the impacts of my thinking styles on the four functions of management. Finally I will discuss how these thinking styles were developed in my life. Personal Thinking Styles My personal thinking style results varied and were extremely surprising. However, there were two particular areas which stood out the most. My primary thinking style is oppositional. This is a subcategory of the aggressive/defensive style. The oppositional style means that I tend to be aggressive and defensive when disagreeing with others. According to the results of the survey, I would rather put someone down in order to make myself feel better. Oppositional people also tend to have a strong need for recognition which may result in sarcastic responses. Oppositional...

...Life Styles Inventory Paper Title Page MGMT591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Student: Rodney Belk Dr. Kimberly Hunley May 15, 2016 After taking the lifestyles inventory interpretation test my primary and secondary personal thinking styles are more apparent to me. I have scored the highest in percentile of Oppositional and Power styles and very closely followed by perfectionist and competitive styles. My percentile scores in these areas were 99% for oppositional, 99% for power, and 95% for competitive. Regarding the primary style, oppositional, it is a very close perception of who I am. Taking the Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey has really made me realized and confirm many things or styles that I've already knew about myself. On the Life Styles Inventory survey, I scored very high on the "Oppositional", "Power," “Perfectionist”, and "Competitive" styles of life. I strongly agree with this. I've always went about with that mindset. I can honestly say that for every decision I have ever made, I have taken these particular "styles" into consideration. At work as well as in my social life I have a strong tendency to be all of those things. I look at it as a way to survive. I believe in Darwin's concept of survival of the fitness idea. In order for me to live up to that belief, I need to be strong in a society that requires an individual to have those aspects in life. If you are weak, not driven, and make mistakes...

...Michael Paine thepainer@wi.rr.com GM591 Leadership and Organizational Paper May 12, 2012 LSI Paper Personal Thinking Skills As I was going through my LSI and answering the questions, I was very surprised by my results and in some areas not so surprised. I am starting a new job, whole different career, being out of a job since February. I also am under a completely different schedule, so was transitioning my body to working a different hours than what my body is used to. So it was kind of a stressful time when I completed this, so I think that may have been part of why my results are the way they are. My LSI results will be located in the Appendix 1 section. The dependent thinking style was my primary and I was kind of surprised that this would be my highest. However, when I thought about what types of thoughts and feeling are included in this slice, I kind of agreed with it, a lot would be the life situations that are happening in my life over the past few months. This thinking style is a defensive style, having the feel that the efforts that I put into my work, family, overall life choices that they haven’t counted towards anything that I would like to achieve. I think for me personally that if I took this again, I think this wouldn’t be my primary thinking, because some parts of this can be affected by starting a new job, which I just have and am learning new things and having a whole different culture of people and procedures...

...Memphis Latchison III Leadership and Organization GM591 LSI Paper GM 591 According to the LSI, my Primary personal thinking style is AFFILIATIVE at 93% and my Backup personal thinking styles are SELF-ACTUALIZING, HUMANISTIC-ENCOURAGING, and CONVENTIONAL. All of these three are at 90%. I agreed with these results. When I look at my personal and professional life, this is exactly how I see myself. With my family and friends, I am seen as an “encourager”, someone who is always believing in others and convincing them that they can do better. For example with my daughter, my wife tends to be the one to discipline her more and I tend to be the one that our daughter runs to after she has been disciplined! When our daughter wants some sympathy, she knows that “mommy” won’t give it to her but daddy will! An example of my AFFILIATIVE behavior can be seen in everything that I am involved in. I occupy a leadership role in my church, and through this it is imperative that I develop and maintain relationships with people. I firmly believe that any success that one achieves, it will be done through some type of “relationship”. As the saying goes, “No man is an island unto himself” and when preparation meets opportunity, it is because someone took the time to aid and help the individual through some type of relationship. I am strong believer of this, and I am positive that this is why I scored the highest with the AFFILIATIVE style. The style that I scored very high in that I...

...Life Styles Inventory learning styles inventory test helps people understand better the behaviors and characteristics they posses that either help or hinder a person to become a successful leader. In this paper, I will discuss the results of my learning styles inventory test. I was pleased and a little shocked to see my results. I believe the test was accurate, however, I was surprised to find out the how high I scored in certain areas. According to the Life Styles Inventory results, my primary style is conventional, and my backup style is affiliative. I have always been referred to as an “old soul” and being conventional has always been my second nature. Being conventional means you that I appreciate rules and structure. I also am reliable and follow policies. Conventionalism and accounting seem to go hand in hand, so I feel confident I can use this personality trait to succeed in my career path. The results of the LSI test concluded that being affiliative was my backup style. Affiliative means that you have a genuine concern for others, and are friendly, and cooperative. I believe this result is a true representation of me. I am not one to cause waves unless absolutely necessary. I also show a lot of empathy towards others and I am always ready to listen to others concerns. I was a little surprised; however, to see how high I scored in dependent and oppositional. I have always considered myself very independent, and very rarely oppositional. I prefer to work on my own...

...Personal Thinking Styles: The Life Style Inventory assignment gave me a chance to see on paper how my thinking styles influence my ability to deal with most situations. The Life Style Survey guides individuals to gain insight into their own self development and personality along with the type of behaviors we exercise to others as well. By completing the survey, I have a better understanding on how I can constructively deal with conflicts as an individual. Furthermore, the survey helps us take a look on the positive and negative qualities of our own personalities and different ways we build and improve upon them. According to my LSI results, my primary style was a tie between humanistic-encouraging and self-actualizing which falls under the Constructive Styles. Constructive Style reflects a healthy balance of people and task-related concerns and promotes the fulfillment of higher order needs (Our Measurement Model - The Circumplex, 2010). Humanistic-Encouraging is at the one o’clock position. It reveals the growth and development of people, a high positive regard for them and sensitive to their needs (Our Measurement Model - The Circumplex, 2010). This type of style describes me so well because I am willing to help others, encourage others, and understanding. When I look at my personal and professional life, this is exactly how I view myself. My family and friends have describes me as a leader who is thoughtful and considerate of everyone. I tend to agree with them...

...A Life Styles Inventory Awakening The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Self-Description helps individuals recognize certain thinking styles within themselves to help better understand how they can improve in personal and professional relationships. Each of the 12 styles are given a number from 1-12 and are arranged in a circular graph much like a clock. The styles are then grouped into three distinct categories: Construction Styles, Passive/Defensive Styles and Aggressive/Defensive Styles. After taking the LSI myself, I found it to be somewhat eye opening in certain categories. The LSI identified my primary thinking style at the 7 o’clock position as Oppositional, which is in the Aggressive/Defensive Style. Against the 9,207 people of which have taken the test, I scored 84% higher in this section. This indicates that this is a strong personality trait and very much like me. Some of the traits of this behavior are: the ability to ask tough questions; a negative, cynical attitude; a sarcastic sense of humor and some one who typically loves to argue. Many of these descriptions I would consider to be very accurate when it comes to describing me. The one that most closely relates to myself is the sarcastic sense of humor. For as long as I can remember I have had (and implemented regularly) a sarcastic sense of humor. I have also been told that I love to argue just for the sake of an argument. I see this regularly with close friends and loved ones. I believe this manifests mostly to support...

...Every manager supposed to know all of his strengths and weaknesses knowing that he/she will be dealing with people of all different behaviors. Knowing your strengths and weakness is the key asset to successfully manage an organization. For this purpose Dr. J. Clayton Lafferty developed The Life Style Inventory (LSI) for self-improving purposes for the reasons of increasing a personal and professional effectiveness. The LSI measures 12 specific styles of patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential. The 12 styles measured by LSI are organized into three general clusters: Constructive, which includes: achievement, self-actualizing, humanistic-encouraging, and affiliate thinking style. Passive/Defensive, which includes: approval, conventional, dependent, and avoidance thinking styles. Aggressive/Defensive, which includes: oppositional, power, competitive, and perfectionistic thinking styles. After honestly answering 240 questions I received the results that my primary personal style is achievement where I received the highest score of 95%. This style shows the following characteristics: focusing on achieving self-set goals, believes that individual effort counts, commits to make things better, take on challenging tasks and prefer to setting and accomplishing realistic goals rather than goals imposed by others. My secondary personal style is self-actualizing. This style shows the following characteristics: self-respect, receptive...

...Personal Thinking Styles Pursuant to my Life Styles Inventory (LSI): Self-description results my primary personal thinking style is “Avoidance” with a percentile score of 55% and my back-up thinking style is “Conventional” with a percentile score of 50%. As I reviewed my circumplex I became rather disturbed as I tried to understand the “Avoidance” scale. The LSI description of Avoidance states that the this thinking style is defined by tendencies of denying responsibility and your behavior, feelings of guilt and an obsession of your own concerns. I have trouble relating to these characteristics as I hardly stray from responsibility if it’s warranted or of having guilty feelings and am definitely not obsessive over my own concerns. In fact, I always own up to my responsibilities and/or any mess ups either at work or at home. I have not been in a role of a manager yet have supervised a number of interns and I have never been threatened by or with any responsibilities pushed upon me. In fact, I almost always took same on with confidence and a sense of dedication. I do agree with the assessment that at times I may not give myself full credit where I completely deserve it; I have attributed this more to humility than to insecurity. Although I am not hard on myself for mistakes and misjudgments I do, however, tend to dwell on things far longer than necessary. For example, if during a presentation I stumbled in answering a question I would live with the embarrassment of same...
