We all have someone that motivates us. It might not be apparent at first ,but after they pass away, or they move away. Just like in the novel Tangerine Luis was Paul´s mentor. In Edward Bloor´s noel Tangerine, Luis is the mythological archetype of the Mentor because he gives advice, motivates, and acts as Paul´s conscience.
Proving to be the Mentor, Luis gives advice, when Paul was scared of Eric and Arthur Bauer. Luis says, ¨ I wouldn´t be afraid they're punks. And you shouldn't be either¨ ( Bloor 229 ). Here, Luis is telling Paul not to be scared anymore. The word ¨punks¨ infers that their not worth fear or tension. Luis, is trying to help Paul over his fear of Eric and Arthur Bauer. Luis wants Paul to stand up to them and for himself.

First, there are the brothers Joey and Mike Costello. The two brothers are obviously close to the point where they know very little details no one else know about them. “ I wanted to explain to Coach Warner about the shoes. He- I guess he thought I cracked up or something. But- But I saw Mike lying there. Maybe I even knew he was dead. I don't know. I had to do something for him. Mike always felt better with his shoes off” (Bloor 115). It shows that Joey cares about Mike enough to know something everyone else does not. Also Joey does it even though he knew it might not...
