Task 3: Explain why human resources planning is important to an organisation
HR is an important factor to SFX. HR are needed to plan many events that is will affect SFX, this could include anything form staffing needs to technology development. Without HR SFX would be in a deep problem as HR are needed to keep everything running smoothly and in order. Human Resources is an important department within an organisation. HR ensures that employees are not mistreated also because they are protected by legislations, so it is important to employ and treat employees appropriately. The HR department is also responsible for dealing with all the strategic thinking for the business. HR participate in important decisions that influence the business in the future. HR is a part of the recruitment process and ensuring that they hire the necessary people that require those particular skills to be able to perform the job role properly.
Estimate future staffing needs
HR planning helps SFX to estimate the staffing needs of SFX in the future .This is important because if it not run smoothly SFX students lessons will be disrupted. If the students find themselves without a teacher, it will cause a negative effect on the work and on the progress on the students. This will reflect in the student’s results. Another effect of this will be the college’s reputation; it will decrease and be known as poor. An example of this is if a teacher goes on maternity leave, HR will need to find an appropriate replacement to take over in order to prevent any disruption to the student’s education. The transition from one teacher to another has to be smooth o that the quality of the progress of the students is no affected.
Help to achieve customer satisfaction by having the right people
As SFX care about the wellbeing of their students, they will have to make sure they have the right people teaching their students. HR deal with the recruitment within SFX, this means they choose who the right people are, and they do this by interviewing and trial days. From the interviews, HR will see if the people meet the required standard that SFX are looking for. If HR hire the wrong people then the teaching quality will be, poor this then means students will not progress further in life because of the teaching skills being poor and the students not learning enough. For example, if HR bring through candidates, which do not hold math degrees, this will mean the teaching will not be of an excellent standard and will mean the students will not know what to do in the exam and fail in life.
Help organise training and development of staff – skills gap
HR need to plan for the development of staff and to train those will skill gaps .As SFX is an sixth form college that likes to expand, it will need its teachers to expand and to develop with it .HR will need to plan the times of which the teacher will be able to train and develop, this will need to be in a time where they are not teaching as this will disrupt the students learning and affect their progress within SFX. HR will need to plan for how many teachers taking part and will have to run the schedule by the teacher. If there, a period HR will need to make it its main prioritise and do everything within that time scale. HR need to plan how they are going to go about the training they will also need to tell the principle of the costs and see if the college will benefit from it or if the college can afford to do it. For example if SFX are introducing a new course , some teachers that they will be suitable for it may need to be trained on how to teach the course and the main details about the course .This is to ensure that it is taught right and the students learn right. This could also save the college money and time rather than hiring new people and going through the whole recruitment stage.
Avoid Vacancies
HR will need to void teachers leaving the college because they are unhappy. HR will need to plan on how they are going to monitor staff and how they are going to keep them happy.HR will also need to plan ways on how to keep the teacher interested in their job, this also refers back to the training, if HR train staff this therefore means staff have more knowledge and feel better about themselves, this will therefore make them want to stay at SFX. HR at SFX also do appraisals, this means they asses how well you are doing in the role and if you have met your objectives that you were given. HR make sure that you are motivated in your job and you feel motivated and that your feel you want to do your job, because if a teacher is not motivated the teaching standard will be poor leading the students to have bad results .For example if a teacher wanted a raise HR would review the teacher and hold a meeting this would determine if they would get the raise or not If they have been doing a good job they would get the raise .This keeps the teacher happy.
The consequences of a business if their employees do not have correct skills is that a business will fail .If a business does not have the right people the business will not be successful. It also means that the employees will lack motivation to do their job; it means the job will not be done to the best of their capability. If an employee does not have the skill, a business must not discipline it but it must talk about it with that person and discuss how they will solve that problem. This is because the employee will lose confidence and it will cause them to underperform causing a loss of profit in the business. As a business would not want a high labour turnover, it needs to accommodate to its employee needs and make them feel like they are important. If a business has a high labour turnover then when recruiting it will be hard as people may think that business is harsh to its employees. Increase absenteeism is something that a business does not want, as habitual absences will cause a business to spend money recruiting and cost precious time to a business.
