Abstract
When it comes to computers, there are so many different options to the way someone can evaluate one. Whether it be how much does a computer costs, what makes it cost that much or why are they priced the way they are? Security too, is a big asset that should be overlooked; especially because confidential information can be obtained very easily without anyone even knowing. Or maybe the hardware that is inside a computer. Many people are not tech savvy, so they don’t know any better. Comparing an Apple Macintosh that runs OS X and a Microsoft PC that runs Windows are usually what is accomplished at an electronic store, for example, Best Buy. All these thoughts have to be questioned and answered before a valid decision should be made about which computer is the superior one.

Windows or Macintosh OS X? You choose Living in this age where technology makes the world go round; things can get confusing when you can’t keep up to date with all the changes. The present is moving at a faster pace than ever before with all the gadgets we have now. When you’re looking to buy a computer, because let’s be honest, the majority of the people in this world have one; do you know what you’re looking for? Do you go for the expensive, flashy Macintosh with OS X operating system? Or the cheaper, yet user friendly Windows PC? Certain questions like these might not cross your mind, although knowing exactly which is more suitable for you could be beneficial. Both being initially released in the 80s, OS X and Windows have had drastic technological advances in the last twenty years climbing to the top of the market when it comes to the computers and their operating systems. While both of these systems are well known and readily available all over the globe, each of these operating systems have their own unique assets that include: hardware compatibility, the costs, and security potential. When shopping for a computer, majority of people aren’t as tech savvy as others. Therefore, those people have limited knowledge about what they’re buying. First off, one of the biggest key factors in buying a computer is its hardware and compatibility. Windows tends to be more open minded when it comes to allowing other companies to integrate their hardware such as CPUs, video cards, RAM, etc. The flexibility is great because you’re never usually at a loss with components since there are so many options available, but as a result, technical problems are more likely to occur. For Macintosh and its operating systems, the hardware is almost always made by their own company, Apple, thus making it more reliable. At least you know where the equipment is made from and that it is made with higher quality hardware. Also, OS X can be upgraded just as well as a Windows PC, there are just limits to how far you can upgrade unless a couple thousand dollars is spent on a system such as the Mac Pro (Dachis, 2013). The Windows side of the hardware area is just a little friendlier and variable, much simpler to get around with. The Mac computers are simple as well, yet a bit picky when it comes to standard features and the use of hardware specifically available only from Apple.
Looking at all these features and hardware is definitely part of the process when choosing between the two, but what about the cost? Everyone wants to get the best deal or more bang for their buck, and they also don’t want to waste money where they shouldn’t. But what depicts the price between the two? Mac computers made by Apple may appear much more expensive when comparing them to the endless amounts of different Windows systems that are out there. Generally speaking, Apple computers are more expensive than some Windows because of the mere fact that the hardware is higher-end and that they don’t produce lesser quality computers. Windows has cheaper parts in some of their systems so that they can lower the price, suiting the needs of the customers who may be on a budget. Although these two are hardly comparable (Pumphrey, 2011) when you’re discussing the price of each. Windows and Macs are shipped with their own specific programs and software unique to each other so that it comes down to the buyer’s choice. Either way, the markets for a Windows and OS X computers are evaluated differently and the prices vary depending on what components are installed in a specific computer.
Apple computers running OS X and Windows computers will try to advertise their products as the best and such and price may be one of those features, but what about security? With the technological advances in today’s society where hackers are able to steal your credit card information, passwords, or any confidential information from you in the blink of an eye; you can never feel too protected. It may be safe to say that Windows are more prone to these security attacks because they have a larger user base (Pumphrey, 2011). That does not mean that Macs are completely invulnerable to virus or malware threats either. Any computer can be tampered with and used in an illegal manner; it’s just that Macs are less likely to be the victim. This is another reason why many users prefer Apple based systems, so that they do not have to worry as much about their computers being compromised. Antivirus and antimalware programs have been invented and changed over the years to keep up with these attacks. Both systems have this software available to them so it’s not like if you have a Windows computer, it is screwed because it may be more prone, it’s just that Windows have to be looked after more. Security is one of the biggest factors in today’s computers, also frequently one of the biggest features looked past also. Taking precaution when deciding which computer to purchase is necessary step that should be taken by anyone. Either system can be compromised or attacked, no matter whether one is more prone or more secure, chances can’t be taken. These three aspects defining a Windows and a Mac running OS X are crucial aspects to foresee before purchasing one or the other. Windows may have the wide variety of hardware compatibility, a little more user friendly, the not so great virus vulnerability, and the cheaper costs. But Macs have the quality made hardware, trusted reputation, and great security, yet the higher priced systems. Each system has their own differences, therefor they can’t be comparable as cited earlier, based on the features they provide. Personal preference is what this comes down to and what the individual consumer wants to get out of their personal computer. The significance between the two is that they both complete day to day tasks and any work that requires a computer. Either way, Windows and OS X are the future for technology and many years to come.

...Mac vs. PC The battle between the two powerhouses never seems to end. In the world of computers, the choice of systems can be a complicated one. There are two competitors out there: PCs and Macs. Everyone has their own opinion as to which is better, and there are many die-hard fans in each camp. The truth is, PCs are far more popular, and for good reasons. Yet the Mac system is actually the more durable and useful of the two. Many factors contribute to the consumer’s thought process before purchasing a computer. Things like cost, usability, software availability, and endless others add to the conflict of which is better. First, we can consider the amount of software applications available for use on both systems. The majority of computer users own PCs, regardless of what their reason may be. Therefore, software companies find that it is far more profitable to develop software that is for use on a PC instead of a Mac. There is such a variety of software written for PCs that is unavailable for Macs that it could be a paper within itself. However, Macintosh beats Windows in one area. Apple preloads every computer with advanced media production programs. The cost of similar programs for the PC would amount to at least $1000. Windows has gained a little ground in the past years by including Movie Maker as a basic application. This still doesn’t match up with the Mac’s iLife, iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band and other handy programs. The Mac, without much debate...

...Mac vs. PC When we are discussing the difference between a Mac and a PC it is important to understand exactly what we are comparing. Mac is short for “Macintosh” is only designed, developed and, marketed by Apple, Inc. PC which stands for “Personal Computer” these will be any IBM-Based running computer. That brings us to our first major difference where Mac can only be sold by Apple, PC can be sold anywhere, because of this PC usually are much cheaper then Mac’s. Another big difference would be the applications available on each system. PC would have your common MS Office, Internet Explorer, Media Player, Media Center, Windows Defender, SkyDrive, VLC media player, Chrome browser. Mac on the other hand has a complete different set of popular apps such as iLife, iWork, Xcode, iTunes, Time Machine, Safari, Mac App Store, FaceTime, Game Center, Photo Booth, Chrome browser, Quick Time. Where Mac can open almost all PC files and can coexist on local networks with PCs Such as doc, .exe, .xls, and others. Software exists for other file types. Mac can also run Windows for 100% compatibility. PC cannot open Mac-based files but if proper software is downloaded there is a possibility you can read or even write Mac-based files. If you are looking more for a gaming system a PC would be the better. The library of games available for the PC is exhaustive, and hardware specifically tweaked for gaming performance is much more readily available for Windows. The array of graphics cards and...

...Mac vs PC “A Mac is as good as it looks,” and “More fun. Less Baggage.” Are two very simply put sentences but also say volumes about the products they represent at the same time. These days advertisements are quick and to the point to keep up with our fast moving and low attention-spanned society. In usually around ten to thirty words an advertiser will try to catch it’s readers attention and get their point across while at the same time reaching the intended demographic their product is intended for. These two products, and MacBook and a Dell Inspiron Mini 9, are similar in that they are both laptops, but vastly different in the way they are portrayed. The purpose of both these ads are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Mac has a reputation for making the best computers around. Many people know that Macs are significantly more pricy then their Dell counterpoints, therefor they don’t list the price of the product. They just tell you why it’s better computer. “Strong, beautiful materials, comes with the latest technology, powerful processors, advanced graphics, fast memory,” and so on. On the other hand, the purpose of the Dell ad is to show customers that their computers are greatly cheaper, but they are still fast, work well, and have comparable components. The purpose of their ad is to show you the outstandingly low price and a list of the specifications to let you know even though it’s cheap, it’s still good. ...18 October 2011 PC vs. Mac: The Real Truth As computers have developed through the last few decades there has been a war between the companies arguing whose computer is best. As more companies developed the birth of Macintosh arose. What made the difference was the makeup of their operating systems at the time. As time went by the difference became more descriptive and detailed. Today the fighting between computer companies never ends, but I am here to prove once and for all that the specifications, availability, and the price variation make PC superior to Mac. One important aspect that makes PC more sophisticated than Mac is the specifications. The fastest desktop PC has a six core processor running at 3.46 GHz without overclocking. Also with their new turbo boost mode that was recently developed it tops out at 3.73 GHz. Mac’s on the other hand have to use two six core processors running at 2.93 Ghz to try and keep up with speeds of desktop PC’s. Pc’s are faster at desktop but also laptop as well. The speed of PC was just proved greater than it opponent Mac which makes PC a greater choice. The availability of a computer is also important when fighting Mac. Another key component when arguing about PC verse Mac is the availability of the product. Today most people will build their own Desktop PC and sometime even laptops. People do this because of the available customization they can achieve and, also it is cheaper this way. They can customize their PC with lights, fancy...

Mac computers have some highly specialized software for media production and have been ahead of PC's for quite some time. It is said that Macintoshes are more expensive than PC’s but this is not necessarily true. It is more suitable to say that Macs are more competitive in some price range configurations than in others. At the low end, the PC is less expensive than the Mac if you can do without Macs multimedia and connectivity capabilities, but more...

Apple and Microsoft are two companies whose competition to dominate sales has been mostly developed with computer sales. Apple’s computer is named “Mac” and Microsoft’s product can be recognized as windows PC. Microsoft has millions of customers because of the amazing job that the company has developed on marketing. However, Apple’s computer is undoubtedly better in three aspects: Productivity, security and design. The lighter you are, the faster you can run. This is an advise usually used for athletes, but can be applied for computers too. Mac has an immediate processing, because it does not have useless applications by default, and so, the software works faster. Furthermore, the apple keyboard facilities, as the multi-touch, give to the user a higher list of options to control the computer. On the other hand, windows PC wants to provide a big amount of options to the customer, for instance, more than 40 game by default. The computer usually gets slower for having apps that never are used by customers. However, the processing speed of computers can be affected for other reasons; malwares are one of these. A malware is malicious software used to corrupt computers. Apple has many restrictions for computer developers and its programing language is much more exclusive, because the software and hardware are both created by the same company. This strategy lets Apple to be much more careful...

Try theft.” (from “Pirates of Silicon Valley”) Everyone knows of the popular household names Apple and Microsoft. Apple was started by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They created the first Apple computer in Jobs’ parents garage in the 1970’s. They knew that they had created something great so they called their company Apple. Bill Gates on the other hand created Microsoft. He never made a computer; what he did was create software and put it on other computers. Allegedly, Bill Gates stole Apple’s Macintosh prototype software from Steve Jobs. Gates only received the prototypes because Jobs thought he could trust Gates, but he was sorely mistaken. These two popular household names are similar, but they have differences such as ability to customize, operating system, price, and virus protection. Apple and Microsoft are alike in they were created at the same time and both had great ideas. Some similarities they share are products such as portable media players and smart phones, tablet devices, and retail stores. They both have portable media players. Apple has the iPod and Microsoft has the Zune. They both do the same thing, but have completely different functions within the device. ...Mac 0S vs. Windows A Macintosh is popular model of computer made by Apple Computer. Introduced in 1984, the Macintosh features a graphical user interface (GUI) that utilizes windows, icons, and a mouse to make it relatively easy for novices to use the computer productively. Rather than learning a complex set of commands, you need only point to a selection on a menu and click a mouse button. The differences between Mac and Windows determine how you use your computer. Mac OS and Windows are both well-known operating systems, but are very different in the way they look and the way they operate. Windows computers are preferred by many because of how easy they can be to customize. Because of the way their hardware is designed, users can replace graphics cards, RAM chips, CD drives, motherboards and other internal hardware at their discretion. Most Mac models, on the other hand, are difficult to upgrade apart from RAM and a few other basic components. Most changes require a visit to an Apple store. The Windows system is designed with its main-menu "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen, though this can be altered by users. This is from where the programs list and many folders and settings can be accessed, which makes use of Windows Explorer, its file browsing system. Macs utilize the Finder, which is much like Windows Explorer, except that this is the basis for almost all the files on its system. Instead of an "All Programs" list or "My Documents" folder, its...

Pc vs Mac Compare and Contrast

...Contrast Essay Both the Personal Computer and the Macintosh have their own unique qualities to them, yet PCs still take the reins over this battlefield of computers. Although PCs are looked at as an unclean version of the newer Mac systems, they still compete toe to toe in all aspects of performance. Factors such as cost, reliability, customization, and endless others add to the conflict of which is better. Cost plays an important role when determining which system is better. With a Mac, there aren’t many options. They only offer three or four different prebuilt systems such as the iMac, MacBook, and Mac Pro. None of the options they offer are under 1000$, yet most run as high as 3800$. When choosing to purchase a prebuilt PC, there are dozens of alternatives that can be offered. A 500$ PC setup is usually enough for the average user. For gamers, a 1000$ PC will work completely fine on most game, on the other hand, a 1000$ MacBook would not even be able to run almost any modern game without major issues. Building your own PC has become the cheapest method of all. Online at sites, such as Newegg, offer more options and cheaper alternatives for hardware and software. Macs may have fewer viruses, but are expensive and become obsolete in a few short years. The same thing happens to PCs, except, they're cheaper. This shows that PC is much more cost effective, even though Mac has become extremely popular over the last few years. Reliability is yet another deciding element when...

...Which Is Better Mac or PC? That seems to be the million dollar question. The problem is Macs and PCs both have their pros and cons, and to compare the two is not that difficult. Macs give the user the ability to run OS X and Windows. These computers work great with other Apple products and are very simple to use. They are less likely to encounter a computer virus, but they are not impregnable! Apple tends to use quality parts that produce a visually appealing and well-designed product. The software that comes right out of the box is better and does not contain trials that force the use to buy additional software. In addition, the support available for Apple is top of the line. ...Mac Vs. PC “The biggest ongoing discussion has to be the one that’s dominated the technological world for well over two decades: the Mac vs Pc debate” (Intel.com). Many have debated that Pc is better than Mac while others have debated Mac is better than Pc. Only a few have said that it depends on what it’s used for. If only we had more insight to both sides of Mac and Pc. Many people pick a computer based on what they are used for to and don’t find the computer that’s right for them. Others don’t find out the facts about each computer and just go with the cheapest because it’s cheap, even though they would be getting a cheap computer it can still be the wrong kind of computer for them, plus it wouldn’t work to their advantage. Before reading this you have to dismiss the ideas you had about Mac’s and Pc’s. ...MICROSOFT VS MACBOOK INTRODUCTION May 2006 marked a special moment in computer history. Apple introduced the MacBook: the first consumer Apple laptop that runs on an Intel chip. This is significant because Windows users now can truly compare Windows-based laptops to the MacBook family. The speed of the MacBook is on pace with the speed of PC laptops. Windows users have less and less reasons to remain Windows users. Running parallel to the increasing reasons to consider Mac over Windows is the fact that our world has evolved from a desktop world to a laptop world. Laptops are so fast and well-equipped nowadays that they serve the needs of not only consumer users, but also professional users such as graphic designers and high-end Photoshop users. There's now only two groups of users that should even consider buying desktops:1. mega-power users. This includes hardcore gamers, 3d animation users and professional video editors. These guys need the fastest machines available to make their processor-hogging routines running faster and faster.2. super-budget users. You can get a nice desktop for $500 nowadays. nice laptops go for about $1000+.That leaves the rest of us. And that's a large group.
