Microeconomic And Macroeconomics

...1. Explain the terms Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Give an example of one topic analyzed by each field. Do all topics in Economics fall into one or other of these fields? Give an example of an area in Economics that has both microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions. The terms microeconomics and macroeconomics are both similar but study very different behaviors and decision-making skills. The study of microeconomics is the study of “decision making undertaken by individuals for households and by firms.” The study of macroeconomics on the other hand is the study of “behavior of the economy as a whole”, which includes unemployment price level and national income(Miller, p.3, 2014). For example, in Microeconomics topics studied in this...

Identify Two Microeconomics and Two Macroeconomics

...• Identify two microeconomics and two macroeconomics principles or concepts from the simulation. Explain why you have categorized these principles or concepts as macroeconomic or microeconomic. o Microeconomics Principals: Scenario 1: In one of the first scenarios it talks about decreasing the rent to lower the vacancy percentage and maximize revenue for the company putting the focus on supply and demand. This would be a temporary fix on a month-to-month basis. o Microeconomics Principals: Scenario 4: Here the company is talking about a new company coming to town and increase the population along with jobs, and suggest they increase rental rates in response to the increase in demand. Not only would this apply to vacant apartments but to the renewal of leases as well. o Macroeconomics Principals: Scenario 3; in this scenario it brings up Atlantis Housing Survey statistics on a demand as a whole. It showed that individuals working in Atlantis are living in neighboring cities due to the rent being less. o Macroeconomics Principals: Scenario 7: The government steps in and puts a ceiling of $1550 on monthly rent for 2 bedroom apartments so that middle class families can afford to live in the city in which they work in. So the company decides to rent only a portion of their apartment’s in order to make a profit due to maintenance cost and so forth. • Identify at least one shift of the supply curve and one shift of the demand curve in the simulation. What causes the shifts...

Opportunity Cost of Macroeconomic and Microeconomic Events

...Event 1: The government passes a law allowing states to pay unlimited unemployment benefits to all unemployed workers for an unlimited amount of time. Event 1: Thew workers would have to work harder and pay more taxes to compensate the people that are not working and all could receive the unemployment benefits, either more taxes would have to be deducted and more jobs would have to open which is heinz size 20/20 in order to be able to grant unlimited benefits to all unemployed workers for an unlimited amount of time, there would have to be a rational change to that; either the costs of goods would have to be lesser or the government would have to provide some kind of benefits for active workers so in fact at least more people decide to work again. It would affect them and us big time, we are in a current debt of trillions of dollars and it gets bigger every year, it just would not be logical and fair and would it not affect it all around for obvious reasons, we would not progress. Event 2: The federal government increases the restrictions on the immigration of skilled workers. • How the incentive to produce for workers and/or firms may be affected by this event Event 2: It may have a positive impact for workers since it will require more demand by them however for a company or organization that needs to hire people it could be a negative since they will suffer more by the fact that they need to hire some specific kind of people and it means that there would be less...

Explain Briefly How Macroeconomics Is Different from Microeconomics. How Can Macroeconomists Use Microeconomic Theory to Guide Them in Their Work, and Why Might the Wish to Do so? Please Give Examples.

...macro perspective. Microeconomics and Macroeconomics are the two major branches of economics. What is Microeconomics? Microeconomics is the study of how households and firms make decisions and how they interact in markets. So all these problems belong to microeconomics: how the consumer reacts when price changes; how the firms decide the output level and how they decide the production method; how should the firms charge their product prices. Microeconomics also considerate the demand and supply of individual goods and services and the equilibrium occurs when the quantity of demands are equal to the quantity of supplies. A typical example of microeconomics is a mobile phone manufacturer decides to charge what price of their new model of smart phone depends on the demand of the mobile markets. A number of factors would affect the demand of the mobile phone including the price of the product itself, the income of the consumer, the consumer’s amount of accumulated wealth, the price of other competitor’s product, the consumer’s tastes and preferences and the expectations about future income, wealth and prices. The manufacturer also concerns the cost of production of the new model smart phone to decide the price and output level in the market. These decisions include when a consumer (i.e. households) purchases a good and for how much, or how a producer (i.e. firms) determines the price it will charge for its product are the key content of Microeconomics....

Difference Between Microeconomics and Microeconomics

...Differentiate between Microeconomics and Macroeconomics Name Institution Differentiate between Microeconomics and Macroeconomics According to (Krugman, 2005), Microeconomics involves analysis of individual economic units such as households, demand, and supply and market equilibrium. Macroeconomics, on the other hand, includes analysis of aggregate economic variables such as national income, inflation, unemployment and interest rates. My primary objective in this paper, therefore, is to differentiate between macroeconomics and microeconomics. This fact alone cannot distinguish macro and microeconomics. Nevertheless, microeconomics and macroeconomics are interdependent. While analyzing macroeconomics an economist has to ask questions which affect the standards of living of an entire country. Such issues will be related to inflation, unemployment, national income, product markets, fiscal policies, international trade, economic growth and interest rates (Mankiw, 2007). On the other hand, an economist while analyzing Microeconomics will look at individual’s purchasing power, demand, supply, income, utility level, labor markets, production, consumption and opportunity cost. Macroeconomics is concerned with the national income and the gross domestic product while Microeconomics is concerned with the impact of an increase or decrease in a single economic variable (Krugman, 2005). Microeconomics works on the principle that prices of goods and services are determined by the...

Economics for the Global Manager

...AIU Abstract This paper’s objective is to discuss the differences between microeconomics and macroeconomics and examples of each. It will discuss a personal microeconomic example with the factors that contributed to the decision. It will also discuss an example of a macroeconomic phenomenon and the results of the decision. Economics for the Global Manager Microeconomics is an analysis of how individuals and firms will make themselves as successful as possible in a world of shortages and the penalty of those individual decisions for markets and the entire economy. It will study how individuals and firms make decisions and how the individual decisions will affect markets (Perloff, 2012). Macroeconomic is an analysis of the performance of the whole economic system. It can forecast the national income by studying the major economic factors that have predictable patterns or trends and the influence they have on one another. The factors used are prices, balance of payment positions, gross national product, and employment / unemployment (Macroeconomics, 2013). The difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics is clear. Microeconomics is the study of the individuals / firms markets. It looks at the allocations of resources and the prices of goods. Macroeconomics is a study of the whole economic system. It looks at gross national product and how it affects unemployment. A microeconomic phenomenon example is taking a looks at a specific company to determine how they...

Differentiating Between Market Structures Essay

...Kevin Edwards Week 2 -Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand 6/23/2014 Microeconomics looks at the behavior of individual people and companies within the economy. It is based on the idea of a market economy, in which consumer demand is the driving force behind the prices and production levels of goods and services. Microeconomics is interested in how specific parties choose to use the limited resources that are available to them. It focuses on what drives them to make their decisions, as well as the ways in which their decisions affect the supply and demand of particular goods and services. In turn, these choices influence the price levels of various commodities. Microeconomics also examines how the decisions of individuals impact specific industries. For example, economists studying at the micro level might be interested in discovering how current consumer demand is affecting the well-being of the oil industry. Another basic but principle of microeconomics is the theory of the firm. This studies the actions of businesses as they strive to increase their profits. It looks at which resources they choose to utilize as inputs, how much they produce, and what they charge for their goods or services. In summary, microeconomics concerns itself with the human beings whose purchasing and production-related decisions come together to form the backbone of a given economy. Even when it involves companies, the focus of microeconomics is always at the personal level. The...

Macroeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand

...Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand Nicholas Perry ECO/365 May 26, 2014 Tarron Khemraj Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand In the Supply and Demand Concept Simulator, there were several microeconomic and macroeconomic principles covered. Also, there were shifts in the supply or demand curve throughout the simulator, and I will explain the shifts in greater detail. To understand what microeconomic principles were used in the simulator, understanding what microeconomics means is important. Microeconomics is the study or analysis of the economy or market on an individual or business level. It focuses on individual buyers and sellers within businesses. One example from the simulator of microeconomics is when Susan asked me to decrease the vacancy rate to 15 percent. In order to do this, I must decrease the cost of the apartments to try and increase the demand or interest in vacant apartments. The reason this is microeconomics is because the decision a decision made on an individual level and has to do with the buyer and seller only to benefit my business. Susan later asked me to lease out all 2,500 available two-bedroom apartments available. In order to do this, Hal suggest we raise the monthly rental cost for the two bedroom apartments so we can cover the maintenance cost. We have to do this in order to stay profitable. This is microeconomics because again, it is focused around the buyer (renters) and the seller (GoodLife Management). The...

...were assigned a scenario that involved decisions that were made by an employer and how those decisions impacted both the employer and individual households (University of Phoenix, n.d.). Macroeconomic Vs Microeconomic Principals Macroeconomics and microeconomics are both subcategories of economics. Macroeconomics involves a much broader approach to the economy and it involves decisions that the government makes in trying to regulate the economy. Microeconomics involves the study of how market demand and supply affect the decisions that households and firms make (Difference Between Net, n.d.) In the scenario that we reviewed, the government made macroeconomic decisions by implementing a price ceiling for rents, also known as a rent control policy. The choices that Goodlife had to make in response to that decision were also macroeconomic because Goodlife had to make a decision to not rent as many apartments, even though it had the capacity to rent more apartments. The government response to that decision would also be macroeconomic. Goodlife engaged in several microeconomic decisions by adjusting the supply of apartments when needed. In year one, Goodlife made a decision to lower rent prices in order to balance the excess supply with the market demand. Goodlife made another microeconomic decision in year three and five by adjusting their rent prices in order to maximize revenue and profits. Demand and Supply Shifts A shift in the demand curve occurs when there is a change...

Supply and Demand

... Introduction There were two microeconomics and two macroeconomics concepts in the simulation. Atlantis is a microeconomics apartment company which manage apartment complexes and homes in the city. Atlantis had one shift supply curve and one shift in the demand curve when business started moving into the city. These shifts affected the equilibrium price, quantity, and decision making with the demand needed to supply to consumers. I am applying what I have learned with supply and demand from the simulation to my management job with our rate increases. The concepts of microeconomics helps us understand the factors that affect shifts in supply and demand on the equilibrium price and quantity. The price elasticity of demand affects consumers purchasing and the firms pricing strategy with supply and demand. Microeconomics and Macroeconomics There were two microeconomics and macroeconomics concepts in the simulation. Atlantis is a rental company that manages the apartment and homes in the low populated city. The microeconomics concept in this simulation with Atlantis is the rental decision to maximize profit with decreasing vacancies. The property management company has consider the supply and demand of the apartments either by lowering the prices to increase rental occupancy or by raising the prices to maximize the cost of the rental inflation in the apartment complex. The macroeconomics simulation was with GoodLife property management as a whole...

Economics for the Global Manager

...way the different entities behave may differ due to their different demands and supply. What we mean by decision made at a common level is that it looks at the entire activities and behavior of the entire economy. This may be at national level, regional level or even global level. Difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics Economics is primarily split into two major sections, this are the macroeconomics and the microeconomics. The two are so much connected. Adjustment in one affects the other. Both of them work together in the world of economy. The macroeconomics can be considered to be the summation of microeconomics. However there exists a difference in the two. We shall be discussing on the distinction between the two in the subsequent few paragraphs. To begin with, the naming denotes that there is a difference between macro and microeconomics.’ macro’ stands for large in Greek, while 'micro’ stands for small in Greek. This is to explain that microeconomics covers the economy of smaller regions such as a firm, a company or even individual businesses. Macroeconomics is concerned with a larger area such as regional, national or global economy. Macroeconomics studies indicators such as inflation, GDP, unemployment, rates and price indices in order to get a comprehension on how the entire economy works. It looks into issues like national income, output,...

Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand

...Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand ECO/365 October 15, 2014 University of Phoenix Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and Demand This assignment calls for the students to complete the Supply and Demand web simulation. The simulation is about a property management firm called Goodlife Management, who owns apartment complexes in the city of Atlantis. The simulation provides a number of different scenarios both covering information that we learned about microeconomics and macroeconomics. Identify two microeconomics and two macroeconomics principles or concepts from the simulation. Explain why you have categorized these principles or concepts as microeconomics or macroeconomics. Microeconomics affects the immediate supply and demand of the company. In the first scenario, GoodLife has 2,000 apartments in its apartment complexes, with a 28% vacancy rate. Susan recommends reducing the rate to 15% while maximizing revenue. We achieved this goal by reducing the rental rate, getting more occupants to move in the apartments, which maximized our revenue. The next scenario, GoodLife has 2,500 apartments available on a temporary month-to-month basis at the rate of $1,100. Susan suggests that we lease out all 2,500 apartments. Though possible to lease all apartments, we are unable to do so at the current rental rate due to the fact that maintenance cost will rise as the tenant and apartment rate rise. So, we raised the rental rate to $1,550 to compensate for...
