The novel, Maggie a Girl of the Street, is about the struggles of a young girl named Maggie. In the beginning of the book, Maggie’s brother Jimmie is fighting with people in the street, then his father shows up to try to bring him home. After his father brings him home, the house seems very chaotic. Their mother Mary is furious that Jimmie had gotten into a fight, and starts a fight with their father. The next day, their dad is out drinking at a bar, and when he comes home wasted the children were all terrified of what was going to happen.
