-Afghanistan & Pakistan-> both governments are weak in not providing services -weak economy, and the floods only worsened this -also terrorists threat to kill/replace governments -nuclear weapons Afghan -situation where their President reelection frauds, lots of candidates (this is positive), Nader is responsible for security in Afghan. -Need connection between police, army and President or no people will follow -If vote, were threatened to be killed, so the women would dress as mourners to vote. They want to change their government. They want improvement. They want a good government.
Iraq- 50,000 troops there. Iraqis can handle their own internal security. Violence is there because of uncertainty about where the government is going. -French foreign minister says positive things about Iraq (first foreign power to do so) “The democratic Iraq has potential for changing dynamics in the middle east.” (Because the middle east with Israel and all the tensions and constant battles, this says a lot and gives hope to a light out of the constant tension this region is constantly in.)
-China-> not traditional military threat; -growing economy power but millions in poverty. -China can’t power (they lack the energy), nor feed themselves (they lack the natural resources).
-Territories in South China by the sea -> the incident earlier this year was, in Gen. Myers opinion, were just to exert influence. China used to have a no greatly developed navy.
-Engagements with China needs to continue
-North Korea-> -Country gross net domestic product is tiny. -people completely starving; military requirements for the enlisted recently was moved to 4’ and 90 pounds. These facts point to the very real problem of malnourishment within the country. - this country has a military focus =missiles, weapons, trying to develop ballistics missiles.
Conclusion
The Biggest threat to “our way of life in the United States since the civil war is violence extremeist.” -the biggest fear of them is their nuclear weapons. If these extremists get their hands on chemical or biological weapons they would use it. The U.S. has done a good job dealing with and keeping a track on Violence Extremists.

I believe security concerns from around the world that may seem to threaten the security of the United States will always be present. The fact that our country has kept an eye out and stayed informed about all of the issues General Myers touched upon is a great indicator that our country realizes this fact. For I am sure our speaker only barely skimmed across a very selective surface of the intelligents that our country holds. General Myers also revealed that he believes the greatest threat to “our way of life,” is the violence extremists and their hunger for nuclear weapons. This makes sense to me. Violence coming to the U.S. by way of nuclear weapons should be the biggest threat. It is the most effective way to cause mass destruction, and one slip of information about such items not known to us would be horrifying.
