In reading the article of Pfc Orolin, After Afghanistan A Father Came Home Then
Disappeared, he was conflicted with the trauma of the war in Afghanistan and upon his return home was unable to cope with everyday life and could not make the adjustment from military back to home life. The other conflict of coping and stress is with the soldier’s wife and family.
Very often you hear only of the returning soldiers and what they went through during the war, and yes that is tragic, but you need to look at what they put their families through when the fail to return to a normal adjusted lifestyle back home. Pfc. Orolin was suffering from PTSD, “which is a psychological disorder that develops through exposure to a traumatic event, such as war, severely oppressive situations, such as the Holocaust, severe abuse, such as rape, natural disasters such as floods and tornados; and unnatural disasters such as plane crashes”(Santrock,2006). In order to help Pfc. Orolin and his family to get back to life as a family, Pfc. Orolin should seek out the local V.A. Hospital for psychological treatment of PTSD and some outside influences from the community, such as volunteer help. But the one key piece of help would be to open up communications with his spouse, let her know what he’s feeling and when he’s feeling it. With the open communications PFC. Orolin can maintain a positive outlook towards his family and the situation he has been dealing with since his return from military duty in Afghanistan.
In Pfc. Orolin situation I think, between Medical Advice(therapy), Group therapy, and communication, medical advice and therapy would help best in the beginning, to ease his feeling towards the disease he has taken on through traumatic events. After which he could progress into a group therapy situation, where there are more people in his situation and involve his family.

Some older veterans returning from Vietnam were discouraged and did not participate in group therapy due to the misinformed community about their disease, PTSD. (Roberts, 2011).
My second reading came from the article, A Perfect Soldier: Remembering a Warrior in the Battle Against Homophobia, in which he struggled over whether or not he should come out of the closet as a gay soldier and challenge the laws of the military to allow homosexuals in the military. Leonard Matlovich had a small support group of friends, all of which asked him not to commit to be the candidate to challenge the laws. Leonard was not quite prepared to do so, he was, as his friend put it,” too quiet and not out yet”, meaning his homosexuality was not known to outsiders and the government, his employer. Leonard did so anyway, against the advice of his friends and supporters.
What Leonard Matlovich needed was a stronger support group, one that would’ve sat down with him and discussed thoroughly the pros and cons of him doing the article and coming out. Second, Leonard should’ve used a little self talk to assess the ramifications of the situation of gay laws and the military. And thirdly, emotional support for the long hard years of prejudice against gays.

Had Leonard received more support from his friends, he would not have ventured into the situation unprepared for what was to come from the government. Leonard received a General
Discharge from the military, and later appealed and was awarded a Honorable Discharge.
Leonard later tried to get reinstated and failed, only receiving a settlement from the government.
Had Leonard used self talk he would have thought of the ramifications of proceeding with the article and the effects of his friends he had made in the military. If Leonard sought emotional support, he could’ve called on religion, or outside help from another similar group to help assess the situation and what lies ahead in the future.
Overall, I feel as though Leonard best path to cope with the problem in the laws against gay soldiers was to seek out emotional support, because he was not ready and was unprepared to go forward with the article and be the challenger of the laws against gays in the military.

Adjustment and Stress Disorder

...Adjustment and Stress Disorder An adjustment disorder or (AD) is a psychological response to a stressor or stressors that are identifiable and result in the formation and growth of clinically significant, emotional or behavioral symptoms. The symptoms displayed by a person who suffers from this disorder share similar symptoms as depressed people. As a result this disorder is sometimes referred to as situational depression. There are five criterions that are to be met for Adjustment and Stress Disorder to be accurately diagnosed. As it pertains to the diagnostic features of this disorder, symptoms must develop within 3 months after the onset of the stressor(s) (Criterion A). The clinical significance of the reaction is indicated by marked distress (the excess that would be anticipated given the nature of the stressor or stressors) or by significant impairment in social or occupational functioning (Criterion B). What this means is a reaction to a stressor that might be considered normal or expectable can still qualify for a diagnosis of Adjustment Disorder if the reaction is sufficiently severe to cause significant impairment. This category should not be used if the stress-related disturbance does not meet the criteria for another specific Axis I disorder and is not merely an exacerbation of a preexisting Axis I or Axis II disorder. In Criterion D the symptoms do not represent Bereavement. Finally in Criterion E, once the stressor (or its consequences) has been terminated, the...

...naturally heal itself. “The term “chiropractic” combines the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (practice) to describe a treatment done by hand.” Chiropractic care is centered around hands on therapy because of adjustments with the spine, the body’s main structure. According to research and the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) cost data report, in 2007 chiropractic care was one of the most exercised form of complementary health practices. Over 18 million adults and 2 million children had expedited chiropractic medicine in a year’s time. With that being said, one of the main problems people have deal with lower back pain. However, chiropractic medicine is also used for sports injuries, job related injuries, pain management and natural relaxation. Not only is chiropractic services less invasive, but is also less expensive and nerve racking. For example, a patient with chronic lower back pain could benefit more from the chiropractic field rather than surgery or medication. The high risks and chances of improvement with surgical procedures vary with the patient. Also the time it can take to fully recover after a major surgery could be even more strenuous. Chiropractic care, in my opinion, should be ones first step to recovery because it comes with less risk than a major, overly priced surgery, such as temporary discomfort and minor aches rather than a risk of not being able to walk. There are also lower risks of side effects that come with chiropractic care than with surgery...

...1. What is the biblical basis for the Jubilee 2000’s call for the immediate canceling of the debts of all HIPCs? The Biblical basis for the 2000s can be found in Proverbs 19:7. The jubilee calls for immediate canceling of all debts of HIPCs. This passage of the bible states that “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done”. Heavily impoverish countries were unable to accomplish financial stability so the more fortunate countries gave back to them in the form of erasing debt. According to Stapleford “the total GDP of the HIPC countries equal to seven-tenths of one percent of the GDP of the major multilateral lending nations”. (Stapleford, 2009) When doing the right thing is well within our means and there are responsible parameters so as not to “dump water onto the sand” (Stapleford, 2009) it is our Christian responsibility to do so. 2. What conditions do you believe should accompany debt relief to developing countries? I believe that the conditions laid out by stapleford are responsible and sensible. 1) the spending of the funds saved are to benefit the poor resulting in programs for education, healthcare, infrastructure 2) Must not be at war with a neighboring country or persecuting any religious group or minority 3) A fair and balanced judicial system in place accompanied with a transparent government 4) Export diversification with guaranteed open markets with US and Europe. 5) Elimination of domestic price...

Effect of Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (Esaps)

...STRUCTURAL ADJUSTMENT PROGRAMMES AFFECTED WOMEN MORE THAN MEN The view that Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAPs) affected women more than men is true to a considerable extent. This was because women were a vulnerable group and Economic Structural Adjustment Programs worsened the situation and that is why ESAP have been cynically changed to mean Extreme Suffering of the African People, and this implies that Economic Structural Adjustment Programs brought more negative impact than positive ones and it were women who particularly suffered more than any other group. Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes are perceived by the Bretton Wood institutions as the process which aims at making national economies of developing countries more efficient, more flexible and better able to use resources through cutting of expenses. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank were arguing that Third World countries were being faced with finance problems because they were spending too much on arms and paying workers. Hence the way to address these financial problems was by reducing on arms spending and retrenchment of extra workers, and this was the dawn of a new economic day in developing countries in the form of Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes...

“the Rise of Neoliberalism and the Imposition of Structural Adjustment Policies (Saps) Has Been Less Destructive for Ghana’s Economy Than Its Critics Claim.” Discuss. [Your Essay Requires You to Discuss Competing

...After gaining independence, Ghana’s economy had reached a state of crisis and therefore, certain International Financial Institutions (International Monetary Fund and World Bank) had intervened. The goal for Ghana was to pursue economic growth at all costs and seek to achieve through the increase of the Growth Domestic Product and the Growth National Product. Structural adjustment programs (SAP) (designed by the World Bank and IMF) had begun being implemented by the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) and National Democratic Congress (NDC). SAPs can be defined as “the process by which key institutions and policies are reconstructed with the intent on advancing economic growth”. This involves increasing economic dependency and diversifying economic resources. While looking at Peter Arthur’s opposing argument that the IFIs and their strategies were detrimental to Ghana’s economy - Kwadwo Kanadu-Agyemang and Darko Kwabena Opoku believe that these strategies and SAPs were beneficial to Ghana’s economy, only to a certain extent. This essay will aim to identify certain criticisms of Ghana undergoing the SAP as well as which sectors of the SAP were beneficial to Ghana. Furthermore, this essay will identify that the ‘imposition’ of the SAPs was indeed necessary and less destructive than its critics state. Colonial rule ended for Ghana in 1957 and they became politically independent and they were “the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to do so”. Ghana had ebeen the world’s...

Chiropractor Case Study

...Chiropractor can Ease the Acute Pain of the Body Human body is self regulating, and self healing whose functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. The proper working of the nervous system ensures that you are immune from the disease and ill-health. A common interference to this system is the 24 moving, weight bearing bones of the spinal column. Any misalignment of these bones can irritate the nerves, tissues, and muscles surrounding them, causing impaired nervous system function. This will lead to severe pain or other abnormal bodily functions. Consult the best chiropractor in Austin, TX, who can detect the abnormal functioning of bones and joints, adjust the specific areas, and suggest exercises to bring everything into normal state.
