My decision to return now at this time of my life., changing old studying and work habits., and Transitioning from Battlefield to classroom., are my set of challenging obstacles. Each of these challenges plays a major role in my road to a college degree. Failure to overcome these obstacles will only make the whole experience that more challenging and pain full, and with the pressure of returning now, pain full isn’t what I need. First, my decision to return now at this time of my life sets out a challenge. It has been five years since I’ve stepped into a classroom and from what I last remember I wasn’t very good at it back then. The average college freshmen ranges usually from 18-19 years of age, I am 25 returning to college. At my age I have more responsibilities, I’m married, I have a family to support, and a full-time occupation to attend. Unlike the average college student who balances partying and studying, I Balance 40 hours of work per week, a wife at home and the pursuit to maintaining passing grades in college courses. ...Public Schools vs. Home Schools Public Schools vs. Home Schools Napoleon Butler University of Phoenix Public Schools vs. Home Schools In today’s society education is the key to success; even though they’re many differences between public schooling, and home schooling they both share major goals that are similar. The common school system in America has for a long time been considered the foundation for providing students with strong educational support. However, these same environments are considered be sometimes challenging because of the obstacles that certain students face. Traditional schooling has certain stumbling blocks such as: particular beliefs in religion and many students receive individualized instructions. The way the economy is drastically changing everyday means that every student needs an opportunity to further goals in life to succeed. To accomplish this goal all parents need to ensure that their children are attending a professional operated educational program. This is determined by the environment for the student, and the education that the student can receive while attending the school. The two most common schooling environments for students to attend are public schooling, and home schooling. ...In today’s society one problem that many have is the ability to overcome obstacles. This is not something that has just been introduced in the modern day. It has been prevalent in the lives of many for hundreds of years. It is only a part of life. As time evolves the ability to triumph over good or evil is the difference between those that sit at the bottom, and those that rise to the top. As in this medieval period, overcoming certain obstacles has been part of the human life cycle and is still present in the modern day. The Medieval period in which Hamlet took place demonstrates one character trying to overcome not only one obstacle, but many. Major conflict arises even at the beginning of the play. Although Hamlet has no control of what goes on between Gertrude and Claudius, in his mind a solution must ascend. After the cruel overtaking of power by Claudius, Prince Hamlet must find a way in order to avenge his father’s death. The truth has been exposed by a ghost resembling King Hamlet. Now it is time for him to strategize in order to find which solution is the best. Killing him would do the trick, but is that the answer? Some options arise in the famous “To be or not to be” soliloquy. “Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them. (Shakespeare, Hamlet)” Prince Hamlet really struggles in this situation on his next move. As much as he wants to avenge his father’s...

...and difficult adversity. Throughout life, we adapt to challenges and master the ability to surmount obstacles. Despite the difficulties we experience, the process of overcoming complications allows us to become more knowledgeable on the task at hand. However, it is not just the conquering of adversity that is beneficial, but the adversity itself has positive effects on the challenged. Adversity allows an individual to develop a sense of discipline, as well as encouraging individuals to exercise their mind to confront a problem or conflict. Specifically, students who encounter hardships are more inclined to try harder, which promotes competition within the school. Although adversity may be beneficial towards some students, challenges can be detrimental for students who lack confidence. For instance, some students develop a mentality of despair; they believe that if one has to work hard, then the person does not have the natural ability for the assignment. Based on the effects of adversity aforementioned, I believe that students can both benefit from the obstacles faced in school with the proper mentality or the effects could be hindering. Students face adversity every day, regardless of how transparent the obstacle may be; some problems may not be as evident as others. According to Carol S. Dweck, author of Brainology, all students face adversities throughout their high-school career, specifically, the challenge of overcoming a fixed mindset. In this excerpt, “The belief that...

...In every rhetorical context, we can evaluate how an author creates a cognitive framework or the process of turning a group of complex elements and data into a simpler, easier to understand format. This framework includes the actor, goal obstacle, and tacts of a story; assumptions about the audience; values that guide the audience; and essential facts. These components can be seen throughout Stokely Carmichael’s “Black Power”, a speech from the 1960s after the assassination Martin Luther King Jr. Although Martin Luther King Jr. believed that peaceful resistance was the best way to combat racial discrimination, Carmichael thought otherwise and shows that belief through his use of this cognitive framework. Although it can go unnoticed at times,...

...time in my life where I use to think that education was about going to school and getting good grades, but it was not till later on that I realized how important education truly was and how it could be received in many ways. As I started to understand all these diverse forms of education there were many obstacles I faced which included the support of family and friends, ability to manage my time, and being able to go to work. Education is any type of knowledge that you gain from as simple as playing a game to going to school. Education is not only things you learn in school, but everything you have ever been influenced by from someone else. Making a mistake and then learning from that mistake is also a form of education. Education plays a big role in society. I believe that class differences in society are mostly based on education. Looking at society today, anyone can make a perception that the uneducated are either part of the lower or middle class. The higher a level of education a person receives today makes them more capable of getting a better job and making a better living. This may not be true for 100% of the people out there but facts and statistics show education affects the majority of people out there. Education can be received in many ways such as school, work, literature, and daily life activities and many other ways. Work for example is in my opinion the most important part of education. School just teaches you the knowledge that it thinks you will need in your future...

...future on a career they been focused on the most. They are entitled to complete their degree and go off finding their dream job right after graduation without any sort of obstacles along the way. Well, that is where most students in the generation we live in today are wrong, and should take drastic action on attending college with their head held way up high. Students should advised themselves that it is a whole different approach going into a city college or university, than how it was attending high school. A student attending college faces the most common struggles such as keeping time management to focus on what needs to be turned in on time with study skills in order to do well on any given quiz or exam, payments for tuition, self-living and various books, and the expectations of their family to keep grades held high for the road to success. Any student trying to value their time while attending college can be their number one priority. In an article, “Learn To Manage Your Time” (US NEWS), Kelci Lynn Lucier states, “With so much going on at a college campus, it's no wonder that students can feel and actually be overcommitted when it comes to classes, work, and co-curricular involvement. How can you balance your time when there never seems to be enough of Guzman 2 it?” Not enough time can have a major set back when turning in homework on time, being ready for a pop quiz, or studying for a final in order to test how much you’re capable of achieving in a short period of...

...The Road Less Traveled On Throughout life we have all encountered and overcome obstacles thrown in our paths. Life is a journey, life is like a road. Everyone is on this road and everyone has a destination. The windiness and bumpiness of the road, the stops we make, and the directions we choose to go are the things that make our journey and lives different. Goals are the most important stops and the final destination in the road of life. To be without goals, is to drive an unknown road without a map. No set destination can be achieved without an attempt at plans or directions. Some roads are shorter than others, due to life choices or life obstacles. Many people make choices that cause them to crash and others sometimes just need a little tow from a friend to get their lives back in the right direction on the road. Life is a road we are on, it is our destiny to choose where our road takes us, this I believe. Despite young age, many of us have encountered hardships beyond our years. Many people have overcome poverty, peer pressure, and the loss of loved ones. I personally have dealt with all these. One of the biggest bumps in my road has been the loss of a close aunt, she was like a second mother to me. I felt like giving up on my goals and my path, depression led to a lack of motivation. However, I continued driving through the rocky patch of road I was on. Both a hardship and blessing, I now am a teenage father. The statement by Drew...

...Planning one's future is one of the most difficult and inaccurate processes we go through in our daily lives. It's impossible to know what will happen over the years, and what obstacles you may have to overcome. However, we do it every day and everyone has their own ideal future planned out for themselves, including me! In my immediate future, I want to attend college at Indiana University. I'm in the process of applying as I write. I intend to major in Political Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences. My reasoning for wanting to major in Political Sciences is that I plan to go to law school, and one of the most common undergrad majors is political science, a topic I am very interested in. I love history and the politics behind wars and major world events. I want to be involved and make a difference in the world, so knowing the politics and reasoning behind why countries interact with each other and within in their own government seems pretty important. In my near future I want to, through the National Security Language Initiative, study Russian Language abroad so I can help the government gather Intel and understand the Russian messages or news. This is just an interest I have, and by no means am I guaranteed to be in a situation where I may do this. However, it is something I plan to do, if given the opportunity. Education is important to me. Infact most of my goals and plans for life rely on education or being educated. I know realistically im going to face challenges...
