...Major risks The major risks we encountered before the project began were; * Not being prepared in what direction the product was going in * Limited access to contact the project manager * Under estimating the project timeline * Possible back up failure * Didn’t have all the content and information at first We first of all took into account the first point about not being prepared and to tackle this problem first, we had to ensure we knew the goals of the website and we knew the functional requirements from the client. We then worked in great detail to design the website as simplicity was the key here as required by the client, then we gave every member of the team an individual task to carry out and complete. When There is a limited access to a project manager then the rest of the team cannot move forward unless all work has been looked over and approved, this would be time consuming as the project would be delayed until a later time when said project manager is available. Normally the project would only take a number of weeks but we have to take testing and delays to get the correct documentation in check, this would take longer to ensure everything is relevant and correct to the project specification, a timeline (Gant chart) was made so that we had a schedule for our project and we had meeting and minutes drawn up so that we always knew at point we were at. Possible back up failure this is the main severity of hazards as if we lost all of our...

...Major risks of using BI Deploying BI using conventional methods exposes a company to considerable risk due to the time involved in implementing BI, and the technical resources needed for deployment (Zap). The average business intelligence solution costs $1.8 million and takes more than 2 years to implement (Rosen). BI systems needs to be designed to suit the business goals not start with using technology and try to suit it to the business goals. The BI system also needs to be easily adapted to any new business logic that might be adopted in the future as the business changes. The biggest risk of BI is the time taken to develop the BI solution. It can take months to develop a solution that is tailored for the business, also the ongoing maintenance can require deep technical expertise and a lot of time. To evaluate the back end of a BI solution there are a few things that need to be addressed. This includes how quickly the data structure can be developed to deliver a BI solution across all subject areas in your system. This is important in the decision of BI as the time represents the cost of developing the solution. The depth of technical skills required to deploy the solution is also important because the greater the skills needed the more the solution will cost. It also needs to be determined how much technical expertise will be needed to maintain the system and to make future modifications to keep to system up to date. This is an important factor because the amount of expertise...

...management in response to a major risk event at Allied Irish Banks plc Philip Linsley* The York Management School, University of York, Heslington, York, YO10 5DD, UK E-mail: pl521@york.ac.uk *Corresponding author Peter Kajüter University of Münster, Chair of International Accounting, Universitätsstr.14-16, D-48143 Münster, Germany E-mail: peter.kajueter@wiwi.uni-muenster.de Abstract: Risk events can cause significant damage to a firm’s reputation and legitimacy. From the perspective of legitimacy theory, there are four broad strategies to restore reputation and repair legitimacy in response to a risk event. The annual report is a potential vehicle for communicating these strategies to the firm’s stakeholders and, therefore, the discretionary disclosures explaining the strategies implemented can be regarded as a means for managing reputational risk. This paper analyses annual report disclosures published in response to a major risk event at Allied Irish Banks plc. The empirical results suggest that legitimacy theory can usefully explain the disclosures. However, the findings from the case analysis also indicate that the disclosures made by Allied Irish Banks plc were not wholly effective in re-establishing legitimacy and thereby demonstrate the need for effective internal control and risk management systems that reduce the likelihood of risk events occurring in the first place. Keywords: disclosures; internal control; impression management; legitimacy; risk. Reference to this paper...

(Word Count: 290) When I was six years old, my mum (who works in a bank) began teaching me how to manage money. Although I was young, I learned to buy equity funds and stock, and soon after, my allowance quadrupled. I did not realize it then, but my interest in finance would benefit myself and others later. The summer after I arrived in the US, I heard news from China that girls in rural villages near my parent’s home were being kidnapped and molested. Due to Confucianism, many Chinese schools lack child safety education, and I felt I should do something to help. I returned to China, and gathered 7 friends to help teach lessons in a very poor village this past summer. While we went to a few schools, our limited funds made it impossible for us to teach at more schools. Later that summer, I got an opportunity to participate in a finance summer camp, held by China Construction Bank. During this summer camp, I learned more efficient ways to manage my allowance. I sold stocks and put all my money to more low-risk funds and some short-term financial products. Four months...

...problems that plague our law enforcement officers. Job stress can’t be avoided in any job field. It especially can’t be avoided in the field of law enforcement. Job stress can come from many sources. Having to exercise prudent discretion all the time, the threat of using violence and having violence used against them, and isolation from the rest of society are the major causes. It can lead to negative attitudes, burnout, loss of enthusiasm and commitment (aka cynicism), increased apathy, divorce, substance abuse and health problems, and many other social, personal, and job-related problematic behaviors. Work place support, training officers to cope with the effects of stress, stress management, and stress training are things that law enforcement are currently doing to lessen job stress. ...1 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this paper is to examine the definition of big data. It also seeks to examine the components of a Unified Data Architecture and its ability to facilitate the analysis of big data. 2 WHAT IS BIG DATA Cuzzocrea, Song and Davis (2011) defined big data in part as being “enormous amounts of unstructured data produced by high-performance applications falling in a wide and heterogeneous family of application scenarios”. In recent years there has been an increasing interest and focus on big data. Many and varied definitions have been proposed but without a consensus on a single definition. The MIT Technology Review (2014), brought attention to the work of Ward and Barker (2014) which examined a number of definitions of big data that have attracted some general ICT industry support from leading ICT industry analysts and organisations such as Gartner, Oracle and Microsoft. In their work they proposed to provide a “concise definition of an otherwise ambiguous term”. The author having just attended a digital government conference with a large proportion of big data tagged presentations also noted that no single definition was offered. There was however a common content theme that supported the Ward and Barker definition of: “Big data is a term describing the storage and analysis of large and or complex data sets using a series of techniques including, but not limited to: NoSQL, MapReduce and machine learning.” 3 UNIFIED DATA ARCHITECTURE 3.1...

...It is not easy to find out as to who contributes and who has the control on the attrition of employees. Various studies/survey conducted indicates that everyone is contributing to the prevailing attrition. Attrition does not happen for one or two reasons. The way the industry is projected and speed at which the companies are expanding has a major part in attrition. For a moment if we look back, did we plan for the growth of this industry and answer will be no. The readiness in all aspects will ease the problems to some extent. In our country we start the industry and then develop the infrastructure. All the major software companies have faced these realities. If you look within, the specific reasons for attrition are varied in nature and it is interesting to know why the people change jobs so quickly. Even today, the main reason for changing jobs is for higher salary and better benefits. But in call centers the reasons are many and it is also true that for funny reasons people change jobs. At the same time the attrition cannot be attributed to employees alone. The employees always assess the management values, work culture, work practices and credibility of the organization. The Indian companies do have difficulties in getting the businesses and retain it for a long time. There are always ups and downs in the business. When there is no focus and in the absence of business plans, non-availability of the campaigns makes people too quickly move out of the organization. Working environment...

...EURO-MEDITERRANEAN AREA Introduction Since several centuries, The Euro-Mediterranean Area has always been the center of the world, geopolitically speaking, representing a major hub when it comes to political interactions, commercial alliances, diplomatic communication and socio-cultural connections. The appellation of United States of Europe can highlight the crucial importance of these nations and the impact of its cooperation and interactions at the international level. In July 13th 2008, Nicolas Sarkozy had triggered a process that led to the Union for the Mediterranean that became today a huge union between countries all around the world, over and above the Mediterranean Sea, attesting of the tremendous magnitude of its geopolitical power. To me, the major objective of this Union should be conducted by a real long-term geopolitical, economic and socio-cultural strategy aiming the promotion of the economical integration and democratic reforms among and between Euro-Mediterranean nations. Since this geopolitical area is highly characterized by an ambient heterogeneity, between North Nations and South Nations in one hand, between wealthy powers, and more underprivileged countries on the other hand, economical and socio-cultural disparities between different geopolitical regions seems to me that they represent the 1st major problem and geopolitical challenge. Indeed, this inevitable battle for a homogeneous united geopolitical area can be a capital step that will lead us to a troubleshooting...
