Chapter I
A. Background of the Study
An ant lives everywhere on land, being the most numerous in insect species. They live on underground and create those earthier mounds. Some live on trees and some on hollow parts of certain plants. They can be considered as menace in our kitchen and dining hall. Cockroaches have been a problem to many of us. They may contaminate our food with filth they carry, and causes sickness. And it’s so hard avoiding these things because they come and go whenever, wherever.
These insects are pests once they are allowed to multiply. To control these pests, chemical insecticides are usually used in many of us but there are many harmful effects in using those chemicals. Among these are dangers they threaten on our surroundings. It causes and adds to pollution.
Some plants produce a distinct chemical or odor that can derive away insects. Realizing the good potential of these plants in controlling insects, botanical or organic materials are used now, being considered instead of wide spread use of chemical ones. Since some of this plants are commonly growing in our backyards, they are inexpensive and environment friendly. This study uses the extract of chili and makabuhai plant to control pests in our house. The makabuhai extracts contains bitter substance and chili produce spicy like taste and smell. It is possible that this taste and smell is offensive to insects.
B. Statement of the Problem
Our product, the makabuhai and chili extract, a household insecticide, is for the people who have problem to the environment when it comes to their home especiall kitchen as part of it. The prize of these kinds of insecticide is rapidly increasing too in our country due to nowadays, different kinds of insects are being found because of one of the main problems in this modern-day world, the pollution. This product involves the use of plants to reduce the expenses.
C. Hypothesis
We will focus to the qualities present in the product like:
• Effectivenes
• Appearance
• Environmental friendliness

D. Significance of the Study
Everything that man-made has purposes and significance. Our group decided to make a resourceful insecticide that can help the people in maintaining safety not only to their houses but also the members of each family when it comes to their health and cleanliness of surroundings. As what we have written in the “Background of Study”, we can lessen chances of people in the possible health problems that could be brought by these tiny species called insects
E. . Definition of Terms
Makabuhay (Tinospora cordifolia) contains many chemicals that are known to have antioxidant activities while a few can even fight cancer cells in animal studies. However, most of the scientific studies that are made on the medicinal uses of Makabuhay are limited to animals or in test tubes. Scientific studies on humans are insufficient
Chillies can be grown in tropical and sub-tropical climates. A warm humid climate is good for growth and warm and dry weather enhances fruit maturity. Chillies are sensitive to water stress. Aphids, flea beetles, cutworms and hornworms are common pests of chillies and they are susceptible to rot, blossom end rot, anthracnose, tobacco mosaic virus, yellow leaf curl, bacterial spot and mildew.
