I am here to tell you about a young woman who is a lot like you and me, but she has taken a stand against tyranny and injustice and suffered greatly for her courageous actions. She has been a voice for the weak and oppressed who do not have a voice of their own. This young woman is Makala Yousafzai; she was targeted by the Taliban because of her campaign for women’s education. While researching and learning about this young activist, I have been inspired to continue to stand strong for my own values and beliefs. Malala is a true example of her quote, “One teacher, one child, one book, and one pen can change the world.” Today I am going to explain how she became an impassioned activist for girl’s education, why her work is important, as well as how and why we should follow Malala’s example.…show more content… Malala was born into a society where women are regarded as lesser and it is a disappointment to have a daughter instead of a son. Malala’s mother did not receive an education so she greatly encouraged Malala’s education, and Malala’s father impressed upon her the importance of learning as she grew. By the time she was 12 she was already speaking out against the Taliban and their belief that girls should not be educated. She wrote articles under a pseudonym which BBC published, and she continued to push forward campaigning. In October of 2012 militants boarded Malala’s school bus and attempted to assassinate her. This horrendous attempt on her life wounded Malala and two of her friends. After the incident she flew to England where she received medical treatment. Today Makala is as strong and resilient as ever, and she has used this tragedy to promote her cause globally and continue to raise
