...English Composition II Interview, Writing Assignment January 16, 2013 Dan Micciche: Making a Difference Some attorneys in Dallas live in fancy houses, collect cars as they climb the corporate ladder and others use their professions to make a difference in the next generation. Most middle class Dallasites go about their business and never notice the crumbling middle school around the corner or the kids who go hungry before lunch. But Dan Micciche does. And Dan has made it his life’s work to help those very kids. Dan is a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. He has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America by Texas Monthly magazine. Dan has lived in Dallas for 25 years. I first met Dan when he was canvassing our neighborhood seeking votes as he was running for DISD school board, district 3. Last year, Dan was elected to the Dallas school board with 64% of the vote, he was elated. He said “After three months of walking door-to-door it has been a real privilege to meet so many people who are so passionate about improving our neighborhoods and our schools. I have seen how a school can be transformed with the community joins together”. Dan is a man who is small in stature, serious and confident about his vision for Dallas. I asked him about the changes he made at Fannin Elementary and how much he knew about the BIC program; he seemed excited to discuss it. Dan told me he started and chaired his firm’s School Partnership...

...Have you ever experienced making a difference in other people’s life? Have you ever thought that in every single decision you make – may it be big or small – someone else’s life can change forever? Well I guess I can say that I already did experience it and I know to myself that we – my family and I – saved an innocent little angel. We had her when she was just seven months old. I know during that time that God wanted to change a child’s life through us. Nurralyn, or Kix as we want to call her because we think that her name is a little bit queer, came to our house together with her father when she was just less than a year old. They have been going here for a couple of times. I didn’t get the chance to see her on the number of times that she was here. My auntie always had the chance to see her and she would say that she looks like an angel, and that she is very beautiful. I only saw her once. They were in their house and on that one time, I got captivated by the charm she has. I carried her in my arms. Her angelic face was very noticeable though it was covered with dirt. The back of the shirt she was wearing was drenched by her own sweat. No exact words can explain the feeling that I had when I held her. She was like shouting for help. Begging for somebody to love and take good care of her. I brought her home with the permission from her father. My auntie and I cleaned her up. There were like stains and marks on her body that cannot be removed in just one bath. These are...

...Lindsey Hedden NRS 4343 Community Health Paper How a Community Health Nurse Can Make a Difference According to Stanhope and Lancaster, community health nursing is defined as “nursing practice in the community, with the primary focus on the health care of individuals, families, and groups in a community with the goal to preserve, protect, and promote or maintain health” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2002). Throughout this semester, I have had numerous opportunities to witness a community health nurse in action. Throughout my nursing career, I have had the opportunity to experience the many different “hats” nurses wear. I have been able to see how nurses have the power to make differences in the lives of others. I feel as if community nurses have an enormous number of chances to do this. Because community nurse have more direct contact with individuals, groups, families, etc, there are more chances to make a difference. Before I became a nursing student, I was always a strong believer in showing compassion and love for others. I have always felt that by going the extra mile to show someone how much you care, you can help them more than anything money can buy. Now that I am near the beginning of my own nursing career, I am a much stronger believer in this personal theory of mine. Too often, I think we as health care professionals concentrate on what we can earn for ourselves rather than what we can do for others. We tend to get lost in the money, the protocols, and the advancement...

...change it. Whether this is the first occurrence of the metaphor “to change the world” I do not know; it is certainly one of the most famous. It belongs in a tradition, by no means conned to Marxists, in which wanting to change the world is seen as a noble motive. It seems to invoke a distinction between those who are content merely to live in the world, taking it as they find it, and those who have the courage, imagination and energy to want to change it, or who see it as their obligation to do so and do all their best to change it. Consequently, making a difference to other people’s lives is very different from the above statement. Fortunately, it is easier; just make it simple and natural. We are all gifted with a unique set of skills and abilities. With those abilities we can make extra-ordinary things happen in the world around us, or not. It is completely up to you whether you want your life to make a difference and what difference you want your life to make. Many people set lofty goals for their lives and want to be remembered as visionaries, they want to change and save the world. Others want to be remembered as the kind man or women down the street who always helped and always listened if you needed help. In truth we might all be here to help each other, we might all be a part of a machine that fosters cooperation, or were not. We might just be here to make the best of the situation for ourselves. In any case, helping others brings happiness and...

...Based on the different gender and different culture, people will make their consumer decision in different way. For an international business manager, he has to know where the most suitable place for the company’s production to go is and satisfied the consumers. Besides, I think this kind of decision-making style difference has to be considered seriously when doing the negotiation. During the negotiation both of the negotiators want to know what others want and try to give their feature companion the right thing in a highly-profit way. So it is considerably important to know what they actually want. I think both of the negotiators can see others as their customers, during the first stages of the negotiation, they can try them best to get know of them, to know their preference, to know what kind of purchase style they are using, so the negotiators can give a win-win price to each other. From the article, except the knowledge in the passage, I also learned how to compare two different things. I was thinking about if I want to know two different countries’ customers’ behavior, I don’t know how to do that and I was thinking to compare almost every part of the behavior while the author only compare the customers by dividing the customers with different country, different gender and just using CDs and handbag to learn the insight knowledge of the behavior. Although this method can only draw a basic conclusion about the topic and it has lots of limitation, this is the first step to...

...should make it more polar and harder to separate. I also predict that the element highest up in each group on the periodic table will have the lowest boiling point and then second, third and fourth. This is because as the molecules go down they get bigger meaning they have more atoms giving them more london forces making them harder to separate. Analysis: b) c) Group 14: - CH4 is a tetrahedral shape so the difference C and H have in electronegativty does not matter because the forces cancel out making this a non-polar molecule. Only having 10 electrons, CH4 has almost no london forces attracting it together, because of these two factors CH4 ends up having a very low boiling point. - SiH4 is a tetrahedral shape so the small difference Si and H have in electronegativty does not matter because the forces cancel out making this a non-polar molecule. Only having 18 electrons, SiH4 has very little london forces attracting it together, because of these two factors SiH4 ends up having a very low boiling point. It is just higher than CH4's because of having slightly more electrons giving it slightly stronger london forces. - GeH4 is a tetrahedral shape so the small difference Ge and H have in electronegativty does not matter because the forces...

...Roles of Administrators Paper Administrators provide key support across many fields with needs that are both demanding and ever-changing. These fields include areas such as human resources, budget making, and planning. Administrators work in both the public and private sector, where their similarities and differences exist among each, including across specialties. These aspects showcase the qualities that make an effective administrator, as well as one suited for his particular sector and field of specialty. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast these similarities and differences of administrators within each sector for human resources, budget making, and planning. Administrators in the Public Sector - Similarities In the public sector, administrators across various areas face the same elements and challenges to their work structure. They must work within the constraints of the regulation, funding, politics, and mission of their organizations for example, while balancing the daily objectives required for managing the goals for the short and long-term. ...Running Head: MAKING INTERNATIONALISM WORK 1 Making Internationalism Work Carol Brittain MAKING INTERNATIONALISM WORK 2 Making Internationalism Work How would you define the term “leadership?” Some may define leadership as the ability to influence others. Others may define leadership as one who inspires organizational members to want to achieve. (Munley, 2011) Leadership is directing a team through communication to reach the organizational goals. Leadership communication is essential to businesses and organizations especially when companies are opening branches overseas, conducting business through conference calls or working with a manager from another country. With this new era of business relations companies are facing cultural differences, and these cultural differences need to be taken into consideration. Dutch social psychologist, Geert Hofstede, pioneered a study on cultural differences and developed the five dimensions of culture. The five dimensions are power/distance, individualism, masculinity, uncertainty/avoidance, and long term orientation. This paper will discuss the cultural dimensions of Japan and Denmark. It will be interesting to see the differences and the commonalities of Japan and Denmark of their vastly different cultures. Power Distance Power distance, PD, looks at the degree of equality between individuals in societies. The degree of equality can also be expressed...

...Making Differences Matter As with technology, the meaning of diversity has changed or even evolved over the years and to remain competitive in today’s markets, organizations must embrace new paradigms to enhance productivity, starting with top-down management. “Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender or class representation – in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally underrepresented “identity groups”. (Thomas, D. & Ely, R. (1996, Sept/Oct) Making Differences Matter: a New Paradigm for Managing Diversity). This is where it starts, not where it ends. In order to reap the full benefits of a diverse workforce, organizations must transform themselves and their flawed, fundamental thinking into a broader understanding of how having a diverse workforce can enable them to penetrate niche markets that would have been otherwise impenetrable. This three-part diversity research efforts’ goal was threefold: one, to find out how diversity groups and middle management coincided, two, what role diversity plays in an organizations structure and lastly, how do company principals assumptions influence, positive or negative the direction of the organization. Before an organization can transform onto the emerging paradigm of learning-and-effectiveness, it must understand which paradigm state it’s currently in. The discriminating and fairness Making Differences Matter cont. paradigm focuses on implementing...
