...Chick-fil-A: Great Food, Better Service. Chicken and the Cost to Growers Chick-fil-A is much more than a restaurant that serves good chicken, it is my sanctuary and a part of who I am. Being welcomed with a smile, as soon as I enter the doors, instantly makes my day better. Chick-fil-A prides itself in taking care of the customer. I am on a first name basis with the breakfast, lunch and dinner shift at my local branch. Chick-fil-A, founded by S. Truett Cathy stays true to its core purpose: “To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A” (Cathy 124). Throughout my time with Chick-fil-A I always found this to be true. Chick-fil-A’s quality of food, along with their quality of service, is shifting the industry of fast food all together by emphasizing how important living out the vision of your company is. Lessons and Principles S. Truett Cathy grew up watching his mother put a lot of effort into ensuring every one she cooked for would be incredibly satisfied with the meal (Cathy 15). At a young age Truett was in charge of building a newspaper route. He found that the key to his paper route success was “to take care of the customer” (Cathy 24). To do this he had to deliver the papers regardless of the circumstances (Cathy 24). Truett also found that “it’s always easier to keep a customer than to replace one”, and therefore he would treat every single customer like the most important one (Cathy 26). These two lessons influenced his restaurant...

...Is it ethical to use brain and psychological data to try to alter consumer behavior? Marketing is centered on the idea of influencing consumers to purchase products or services. Marketing in our day and age has developed more effective strategies and utilized better consumer data-collecting technology than ever before. However, not many people think about the consequences that these improvements may have on the consumer. Is it ethical to use brain and psychological data to try to alter consumer behavior? Let’s first look at the job of a marketer: to get inside their customers’ heads and make them want to buy products. One of my favorite advertising strategies that accomplished this was the 99 cent KFC Snacker television ad in 2009. The ad had a hidden image, a tiny dollar bill, located in the lettuce of the Snacker (approximately 50 times smaller than the sandwich itself). Its purpose was to subliminally express to the minds of consumers that the sandwich held many times greater value than a dollar (associating size with value when the two were compared). Think about it this way: one tiny dollar for one large sandwich. This ad, due to a value-association strategy that KFC subliminally introduced, garnered lots of attention. Marketers like KFC want to influence you into selecting their products, but is it possible to take go too far? If one markets a product and the consumer behavior is altered to impose upon free will, then it is NOT an ethical practice. In contrast to...

(Quiznos Files for Bankruptcy, n.d ) Their debt in total is over five hundred and seventy million. Quiznos two years prior to this were trying to do the restructuring on their own and facing a major lawsuit from franchise owners, Quiznos have a task ahead to repair their name. They were accused of charging too high franchise fees and the costs to operate the franchises were very high. (Quiznos Files for Bankruptcy, n.d ) Quiznos also face very tough competition from the number one sandwich chain Subway which has over 41.000 stores. Quiznos sales have suffered because of this, especially when Subway started to offer five dollar foot longs and also from increased competition from other sandwich companies. Here in Florida we have Firehouse Subs, Jimmy Johns and Laspadas Hoagies. Quiznos is currently struggling to stay in business. Their problems is said to have come about because of poor marketing, consumers did not recognize the brand that well and with the high franchising fees and penalties from not ordering the minimum amount of products from Quiznos themselves franchisees started to sell or close their stores. (Quiznos Files for Bankruptcy, n.d ) Out of the 2100 hundred stores currently open only seven of them are independently owned....

...Wendy’s An Operations Management Analysis December 4, 2002 Background 1969-Dave Thomas opened the first restaurant in Columbus, Ohio on November 15,1969. 1976-There were 500 restaurants operating in the United States and Canada. Wendy’s became a publicly traded company. 1979-Wendy’s had 1,767 stores and began the differentiation strategy with the introduction of the salad bar. 1988-1990-Wendy’s expanded operations to Mexico, New Zealand, Indonesia, Greece, Turkey, Guatemala, and Italy. 1994-There were 4,400 restaurants operating in 34 countries. 1998-The “service excellence” program was started to improve customer service. Business Strategy The differentiation strategy is shown with two main items: products and service. As far as products, Wendy’s has items that others do not. One of the differences is the chicken product. Wendy’s brags “all white meat” which can be a major advantage. The chicken sandwiches are a full chicken breast opposed to the processed sandwiches of competitors. This may not seem like much when the sandwiches can cost as much as $2 more than competitors but it helps to show that when customers come to Wendy’s they receive the best products and service as described later. Another difference is shown by the salads. Wendy’s has two salads on their value menu and also four larger, more expensive salads. Customers have grown to love the salads. It is a great addition for the...

...Stargate Institute Executive Summary Nabisco is a company that has been in existence since 1898. During their 109 years in existence, they have grown through natural growth, mergers, and acquisitions. This has allowed Nabisco to be the leading snack maker in the world. The Oreo chocolate sandwich cookie was first introduced in Hoboken, N.J. in 1911. Oreos today are far and away the world’s most popular cookie. The Oreo family accounts for approximately 10 percent of all store cookie sales--a $3 billion market. However in recent years Nabisco has been reluctant to adapt to current market trends. The company was focusing on producing new versions of existing products to make them more convenient. Situation Analysis In 1898, the New York Biscuit Company and the American Biscuit and Manufacturing Company merged over 100 bakeries into the National Biscuit Company, later called Nabisco. Founders Adolphus Green and William Moore, orchestrated the merger and the company quickly rose to first place in the manufacturing and marketing of cookies and crackers in America. To expand their global presence and to strengthen their position in the fast-growing consumer snacks sector, Philip Morris Co. Inc. acquired Nabisco Holdings in December 2000. Philip Morris purchased Nabisco for $14.9 billion in cash plus assumed $4 million in debt. Eventually, Philip Morris integrated the Nabisco brands with its Kraft Food operations. And now it includes brands such as Chips Ahoy, Fig Newtons, Mallomars...

...Vernissage essay Have you ever peeped on your parents? Well Alex has. And he isn’t just peeping. He describes every little thing. Maybe that’s just how it is, to be a child, or maybe that is the stage where a child wants to show, that he turns into a teenager. Describing his banana sandwich as baby food normally means child food aren’t good enough for Alex. He wants to be a grown up and eat grown up food. Making projects about earthworms in Nature class is also one of the childish struggles, you have to go through, if your name is Alex. He even needs to have a babysitter for one single night, while his parents are out for something called a vernissage. All this means Alex hasn’t turned into a teenager yet, but he really wants to. It seems normally for the parents to contact a babysitter, like it happens pretty often. It means that his parents, often are out for something. But that’s not the real problem. The real problem is between Alex’s parents. Alex’s mum Frances sighs several times. She is unhappy with something. Her husband John is always working, and when he gets home, all he thinks about is the next thing he’s going to do. Frances feels used. And she doesn’t earn her husbands respect. She shows up in her new dress in front of John, and his response is “It’s very nice”. You can easily feel the ironic and sadness in the answer. When the parents are out for something, for instance the night in the text, John is not even out with Frances. He’s only at the vernissage...

...I always thing that I am going to climb Everest mountain when I thing starting an essay. In my previous writing classes, I always sat in front of the computer to start my essay without any outline. After I joined Prof. Decker’s class, I start outlining because I want to write a better essay. Indeed, in my pervious classes thesis sentences were not strong, so I followed the same sentence structure in ENGL 101A. For example, the thesis sentence in my Argumentative and Persuasion draft was not strong and contain some mistakes: “In the 20th and 21st centuries academic dishonesty become common at the college level because of the pressure to get scholarship, a family pressures, and a dream to have a better life” (page 1). Professor Decker gave me some comments to fix my sentence. Therefore, I revised my mistakes and fix it this way: “Academic dishonesty has become common at college intuition because of the pressure to get scholarships, to give family happiness, and pursue to have a better life” (page 1). Also, in my earlier classes I simply restate my thesis sentence when I conclude, and I used that path in ENGL 101A. In my Division or Analysis essay draft, I concluded, “The love of a family, the lesson that parents teach for their children, and the struggle that children make to succeed their dreams are the parts of the story that the author tried to transfer for the audiences”...

...Utility means satisfaction which consumers derive from commodities and services by purchasing different units of money. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia “Ineconomics, utility is a measure of satisfaction;it refers to the total satisfaction received by a consumer from consuming a good or service. “Given this measure, one may speak meaningfully of increasing or decreasing utility, and thereby explain economic behavior in terms of attempts to increase one's utility. Utility is often affected by consumption of various goods and services, possession of wealth and spending of leisure time. According to Utilitarian’s, such as Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832) and John Stuart Mill (1806–1873), theory “Society should aim to maximize the total utility of individuals, aiming for "the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people". Another theory forwarded by John Rawls (1921–2002) would have society maximize the utility of those with the lowest utility, raising them up to create a more equitable distribution across society. Utility is usually applied by economists in such constructs as the indifference curve, which plot the combination of commodities that an individual or a society would accept to maintain at given level of satisfaction. Individual utility and social utility can be construed as the value of a utility function and a social welfare function respectively. When coupled with production or commodity constraints, under some assumptions, these functions can be used to analyze...
