Horror movies would be nothing without the extensive use of fake blood in movies. There are many different ingredients that go into making realistic looking fake blood. Before horror movies really gained popularity the blood that was used in old films was actually just Bosco chocolate syrup. This was first featured in Alfred hitchcock's 1960 movie Psycho. Since film and editing has changed since the 60’s filmmakers were no longer able to use chocolate so they ventured out to find a new form of realistic blood to use in movies. Finally after going through different ingredients such as ketchup, food dye, and even jelly until they settled on a final recipe that looks very similar to human blood. The red color can be very easily acquired its the …show more content…
In order to understand how the process of making fake blood works we can divide it into the following steps, gathering ingredients and utensils, proportioning, and mixing. The first step is to gather the following ingredients: red, blue, and yellow food dye, Golden syrup, water, cornstarch, and peppermint extract. Now the proportions of each ingredient need to be correct so first measure out two parts of golden syrup and pour that into a bowl; then to thin out the golden syrup pour one part water into the container; Now it's time to add color into the mixture first place the red food dye into the bowl then yellow there is no specific proportions for these two dyes eyeballing it will suffice then place in the final blue dye (smaller amount than previous two dyes). Finally place the most important ingredient the corn starch. This is what gives the mixture a thick blood like texture. It’s optional to include Peppermint extract for taste although not necessary. Once all of the ingredients have been placed in the bowl the final step is to mix it all together so that the mixture becomes homogeneous. Finally when the mixture becomes a syrup like consistency the fake blood is

RetroSlashers: http://retroslashers.net/friday-the-13th-1980-review/ [2nd October 2014 Analysis of genre in horror films looking at 3 films In this essay, I will be doing research on horror films, but looking at a specific part under ‘approaching the media’, which is genre and looking at three objectives to complete this: * How genre is represented * How the genre concept works in Teen Slasher films * The key genre conventions used in films. The three films that would help me conduct this research and meet my aims are Candyman, Friday the 13th and a nightmare on Elm Street. By looking at these films, I would be able to see whether all the elements that come under genre is applied e.g. iconography, setting etc. The creation of horror films was done to make people scared and frightened but also tap into our hidden fears. This could be done by looking at the most common thing that scare people. For example, The fly, David Cronenberg was based on the idea of people being scared to get sick/diseases. The word “genre” comes from the French...

Third World Ebola Research Papers

...If there is one piece of information that everyone knows regarding Ebola it is that it can kill you. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), its fatality rate historically ranges from 25% to 90% depending on treatment. By disabling the body’s natural defenses, the virus attacks the internal organs directly, causing extensive bleeding, vomiting, and diarrhea. (independent) In order to cause such extreme symptoms, upon infection, the virus attaches itself to the body’s cells and multiplies. It then begins to secrete a protein called ebolavirus glycoprotein, which attacks the blood vessels, causing them leak blood. This results in hemorrhagic (bleeding) symptoms and given enough time, shock or death. (Mishra) These bleeding symptoms that are so commonly associated with Ebola only occur in about 16% of patients, as many die before or are cured before they occur (WHO). According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the national health institute of the United States, it is flu-like symptoms such as, fever, head ache, muscle ache, drossiness, vomiting and diarrhea, that are most common and are considered the telltale signs of infection. Without bleeding these symptoms make it difficult to distinguish Ebola from other common ailments outside of medical containment. Thus, the most effective way to determine infection is...

The numbers of this statement dropped over the years as people began to watch him more closely. However this didn’t stop him from rising to more power, after the Republicans regained a majority in the senate, McCarthy took control of a subcommittee, and performed investigations on government agencies. Other Cold War “activists” consisted of Minnesota Senator Hubert Humphrey, union leader Walter Reuther, men who spoke out against McCarthy's tactics, but still agreed with a lot of his core beliefs. While this led to a divergence of tactics between activists, it still led to a growth in Anti-Communist sentiments through “Public Education” films and propaganda to increase the fear in the people of the new red menace. Anti-Communism continued into the 1960s, but after 1954 it lost a large...

...Imagine being treated like property and not a person. Imagine being bought and sold, forced to work, unable to marry, taken away from your loved ones, held against your will, beat or raped. Can you imagine? Starting in the early 1500s slavery took place in southern states. During the slavery period, African Americans were forced to do all of the above and more; no African American wanted to be a slave. “I have often sung to drown my sorrow, but seldom to express my happiness. Crying for joy, and singing for joy, were alike uncommon to me while in the jaws of slavery.” Slavery has always been a topic people believe as brutal, cruel, inhumane and horrible so when I went and seen the movie supposedly based on slavery; “Django Unchained” written by Quentin Tarantino, released on December 25, 2012, I was disappointed. The movie Django Unchained mocked slavery and tried to make a serious matter funny. Slavery was nothing closed to a joke, if any slave was asked to describe slavery, the last thing it would be described as is a joke. The movie takes place two years before the Civil War. Actor, Jamie Foxx played the main character, Django, in the movie. Django becomes a bounty hunter in the movie after he is recused by a German dentist/bounty hunter man named Schultz at the beginning of the movie. Django agrees to take the job offered as a bounty hunter because he can think of no better job than to kill white men for money. In the movie he says, “Kill white folks and they pay you...

Grease Analysis

...of America’s tumultuous crossing over from the 50s to the 60s, throwing over repression and tradition for freedom and adventure (and a generous helping of cultural chaos), a time when the styles and culture of the disengaged and disenfranchised became overpowering symbols of teenage power and autonomy. Originally a rowdy, dangerous, over-sexed, and insightful piece of alternative theatre, Grease was inspired by the rule-busting success of Hair and shows like it, rejecting the trappings of other Broadway musicals for a more authentic, more visceral, more radical theatre experience that revealed great cultural truths about America. An experience largely forgotten by most productions of the show today. Like Hair before it and The Rocky Horror Show which would come a year later, Grease is a show about repression versus freedom in American sexuality, about the clumsy, tentative, but clearly emerging sexual freedom of the late 1950s, seen through the lens of the middle of the Sexual Revolution in the 1970s. It’s about the near carnal passion 1950s teenagers felt for their rock and roll, the first art form that actually changed human sexuality. (The phrase rock and roll was originally African American urban slang for sexual intercourse, going as far back as the 1920s, and it made its way onto many rhythm and blues recordings before the 1950s.) As theatre, Grease finds its roots in the rawness, the rowdiness, the lack of polish that made Hair and other experimental...

Dreams

...Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.[1] The content and purpose of dreams are not definitively understood, though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, as well as a subject of philosophical and religious interest, throughout recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology.[2] Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable.[3] The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a few seconds, or approximately 20–30 minutes.[3] People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has three to five dreams per night, but some may have up to seven dreams in one night.[4] The dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full eight-hour night sleep, most dreams occur in the typical two hours of REM.[5] In modern times, dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious mind. They range from normal and ordinary to overly surreal and bizarre. Dreams can have varying natures, such as frightening, exciting, magical, melancholic, adventurous, or sexual. The events in dreams are generally outside the control of the...

...What about Violence in Movies? Manabu Ozawa from Japan |[pic] | | |PHOTO BY THOMAS PETERS | | |"Action movies with violence take heat from adults who blame | | |them for real life violence because they are closer to reality | | |than other movies." | | "The question whether movie violence should be regulated or not is a difficult and complicated matter." Although many people criticize violent movies, if there is a movie which does not contain sex and violence, who will go to see that movie? Most major movies, such as "Lethal Weapon", "Die Hard", and "Independence Day", were really popular in spite of the fact that the "good guy" killed more people than the "bad guy" did. In my opinion, Hollywood tends to produce few kinds of movies--action, panic, love story, and comedy. Whenever I watch a movie or a video, there is at least one murder in each movie. The biggest number of deaths are in the panic movies, in my opinion. Action movies with violence take heat from adults who blame them for real life violence because they are closer to reality than other movies. For example, in "Natural Born Killers" we can see around 50 deaths, whereas in "Independence Day" thousands of people die. In both movies, tons of people are killed, though the ways to kill are different. The big difference between them is about reality. |[pic] ...

Defeating the Enemies Will

...Defeating the Enemy’s Will: The Psychological Foundations of Maneuver Warfare DAVID A. GROSSMAN The will to fight is at the nub of all defeat mechanisms … One should always look for a way to break the enemy’s will and capacity to resist. Brig. Gen. Huba Wass de Czege Defeating the enemy’s will. That is the essence of maneuver warfare, that you defeat the enemy’s will to fight rather than his ability to fight. But how do you defeat a man’s mind? We can measure and precisely quantify the mechanics of defeating the enemy’s ability to fight, and it is this tangible, mathematical quality that makes attacking the enemy’s physical ability to fight so much more attractive than attacking the enemy’s psychological will to fight. At some level none of us can truly be comfortable when we dwell on the fact that our destiny as soldiers and military leaders ultimately depends on something as nebulous and unquantifiable as an enemy’s “will,” and we are tempted to ignore such aspects of warfare. But somewhere in the back of our minds, a still, small voice reminds us that ultimately the paths of victory run not through machinery and material, but through the hearts and minds of human beings. So what is the foundation of the will to fight and kill in combat and what are the vulnerable points in this foundation? In short: what are the psychological underpinnings of maneuver warfare? To answer these questions, students of maneuver warfare must truly understand, as we have never understood before...
