Everyone loves to try a new application, however if you’re part of a younger generation and your parents are using a “old platform” and posting your baby pictures online, you might as well forget being the high school prom king or queen. Not to mention having your parents troll your posts. The survival of these applications depends on their user base, if trust is breached between user and service, or by social espionage, that service could easily be put to rest. The biggest loss of user base due to simple rebranding, that I remember was Digg. A GUI design and change to the upvote algorithm began an exodus of it’s members to jump ship and relocate to Reddit. Leaving the name and legacy of its founder, Kevin Rose, in obscurity, and making Reddit the “go to” platform for a wonderful dose of browser blackout. 2) In your opinion, what is the single most important thing you learned from this class? a. The Semantic Web is the most important thing I’ve learnt from this textbook. I’d forgotten about the concept of the semantic web until reading the book. I’ve always had a vision of an “Agnostic OS” that could run software from any platform, current and legacy. This stemmed from my frustration of having way too many computers, or virtual machines to maintain, while LOVING certain apps that have either lived their lifespan, were no longer supported by newer operating systems, or only lived in a certain OS (i.e. OS 9).
