At the age of 18, there was this young lady that didn’t really know what she wanted to do with her life. While working full time at a daycare, she decided to follow most of her peers to school at a local community college. She decided not to use financial aid and was paying directly out of pocket. It became really hard so she decided to take a break for a semester and save up some money. Well a semester turned into five years. That young lady was me. I decided to go back to school to obtain my Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice because of financial, personal, and emotional reasons.
I’ve been working in the Child Care field for 10 years. I love kids but I’ve always known that I didn’t want to do this for the rest of my life. Working in child care isn’t really lucrative but it’s reliable. I want to make sure that once I have a family, I’m able to provide for them. I want to be able to provide them with a life that they don’t have to want for anything. I want to know that I’m able to do that for them without the help of anyone else.
As a child, I always imagined being married and having kids but I always wanted my schooling to be finished first. Well recently, I began a serious relationship and realized that my school wasn’t complete so I began to look at going back to school. I always said that once I finished school and get I my degree, I wanted to work in the jail as a Correctional Officer. It’s always been a dream of mine to see how the inmates live. I think that I can influence their lives for the better.
When I stopped school, I didn’t feel as if I was capable of school anymore. Though I always had the desire to go to school, I never actually gave myself a chance to do so. I really wanted to push myself to know that I’m capable of doing anything that I wanted. I also want to be able to give back to the youth of today by letting them know that no matter

JROTC: High School Career

...nothing better than taking a class that will make you feel proud of yourself and love what you are doing. I have learned how to keep myself calm as a leader, first aid, and how strong willed I am as a cadet and citizen of society. Even though my self-esteem level from December 2014 was 77% and now it is a 76, I am proud of myself for working on my decision making skills and for making my commitment ethic levels higher. It is not easy being a senior in a level two JROTC class. This makes me feel like I have lost precious time and it was silly taking this class a second year, but I will never regret the decision I made to take this class again. We all go through a rollercoaster of personal issues and environmental issues that make our self-esteem points fluctuate. In the beginning of my junior year, I had decided that I wanted to show people how outgoing I am, it worked. The first time I took the success portfolio, my self-esteem was at a 77%. This is pretty high for just telling myself that I will have a good...

Personal Narrative: My Experience With Diabetes

...I know because it runs on my mom’s side and my dad’s side of the family so the thought of me being able to get it is terrifying. On June 2016 was when everything changed for me. I had a checkup with my doctor where I got my blood drawn to make sure everything was good with me. I didn’t think that day I would be told that I, myself, have diabetes. When I got the news, I immediately started crying so much and it made me open my eyes. I knew from then on I had to make sure I kept myself healthy physically and mentally. Taking care of myself physically by making sure I eat the right portions of food, not eating so much sweets and always drink my medicine everyday at a certain time. Taking care of myself mentally by making sure I seek for counselling at school, make sure I don’t overwhelm myself with...

Lifeguard Research Paper

...Since the summer of my eighth grade year, I have worked at the Hampton Aquatic Center. On my first day of work, I could never imagine how much the next 4 years would affect my life. A responsibility I never guessed would be so difficult was dealing with patrons. Young or old, injured or mischievous, there was always something to do. I also find myself busy as the Student Body President. A role I find myself constantly thrown into is problem solver. A trait I have really developed at my job as a lifeguard is communication. Patrons often voice complains about different things at the pool, so I would have to talk with them and handle their complaints. College Admissions Essay: The Success Of Failure

... or just being a friend to someone, I had a burning desire to always make the people in my life proud. Although this was true for everything I was involved in, it was especially true for cheerleading. I was a cheerleader from grade school all the way up until my senior year of high school. I loved it and it always came natural. When I made it to high school however, things started changing. After an unimaginably nerve racking tryout, I made the JV competition team as a freshman, which was my goal entering in. The year went by and I could see myself improving little by little everyday. I was sure by the next year’s tryouts I would make the Varsity competition team easily. My family kept telling me how excited they were to see me on Varsity and they just knew I would make it. The next year’s tryouts came around quicker than I realized, and even quicker came the disappointment of seeing my name on the JV competition roster, AGAIN! The disappointment I felt was unlike any other I had experienced. Nevertheless, cheerleading was the one thing I loved most and quitting was not an option. I began to develop a more positive attitude about the upcoming season and...

...changes that move has had on my life. But the memory is a distant one. Moving from Anderson schools to Lakota schools, on the other hand, is more defined in my head. That change is forever associated in my memory with fear, apprehension, and a lack of confidence. Being a teenager is tough, especially when your friend circle consists of only you. Entering a new building and navigating through confusing corridors can be an intimidating experience for a teenager. For the first time in nine years I found myself alone and friendless. I woke up on the first morning feeling like my body was weighed down. Showering and eating breakfast were chores I didn't want to get done. Each moment was closer to my entering the school building. As I walked to my school bus I wished the ground would open up and swallow me. The first few days went by in a similar manner. But as the week went on I found myself speaking to a couple of students and making conversations. A month later I found myself telling my mother that this was the best school I had ever been in. Fear is a strange beast. It can completely drown you if you let it. On the other hand, I realized that pushing oneself forward regardless of fear makes one a better, stronger individual. High school is a place where one learns to become more independent. Homework and grades become a student's responsibility. Well, not entirely...teachers do call parents if a student is failing. ...need for feat exist? Just like everyone else, I have a dream for success. For my future I want to see myself fruitful in pursuing what I desire to do – dermatology. However, being successful to me isn’t about fulfilling selfish desires, it also entails helping others. As a future doctor, I yearn to be adept of sharing my knowledge with people that need it. In order for me to get to that level, I must endure strong adversity from a superior educational environment and achieve outstanding grades. I must also be able to stand up on my own feet and be independent, which has been a struggle for me ever since I was young. Growing up, I always had to fight for everything I wanted or believed in. I felt in any situation that I was the odd one out. I felt different, and that everyone else was a team that was out to get me. Since I was young I have always been a very timid, quiet child. However, I was very compassionate towards others and was that one friend who was always there to help. My parents and friends would often tell me to “have a spine” and to stand up for myself. I had never really felt the need to do so, as I thought that it was easier just to ignore and move on, and to just go with whatever people say. I had been a very intelligent child, making my parents proud in every way I could. As I grew older, I started losing myself into peer pressure and I largely based myself on the influence of others. ...that was to help people in an hospital setting, in the future she plans to pursue her career and an R.N. and work in labor and delivery I am so proud of my sister and after what I experienced this weekend the thoughts of achievement and success keeps a smile on my face. This weekend I was not only proud of my sister but nervous too I knew deep down this was one of her ultimate goals that she wanted to complete in her lifetime, I was nervous because I didn’t want to get too emotional in front of her because she too would have gotten emotional with me too, I didn’t want her to ruin her photographs and memories with friends so I was able to keep it together thankfully. As I sat in the audience to myself I started to think to myself, this can be one day the reason why I sacrifice everyday day in and day out, balancing work, parenting, school, and being a husband can be difficult and discouraging at times but this is the ultimate reward, having family and friends there to support and cheer for you for your successful journey. When I heard the graduation music playing it warmed my heart it was chants of success and accomplishment, all I could think about was one day those same tunes will play in the background but for me. When I saw my sister walk out in her gown and the smile on her face I knew today was her special day, she looked so proud with her chest out and head held high, the...

A Fault in Our Economy

...Chris Cole 11-11-13 Algebra 1 Talented 10th Project 1.) What are you doing outside of class to help yourself learn the concepts in algebra 1? Explain -Nothing, absolutely, nothing. I don’t do anything outside of class to help myself learn the concepts of algebra, and there’s no reason why I’m not helping myself. Learning the concepts in algebra should be part of my leisure, but it’s not and there’s no reason for that. 2.) What are your responsibilities in order to help yourself in algebra 1? -My responsibilities in this class are simple. Stay focused in class, be ready to commit, and study. 3.) Should a teacher have high standards and expectations for you? Why? -Yes, a teacher should have high expectations for his/her students. I say this because most people excel in certain things when other influences in that person’s life hold high standards for that person. A lot of people cannot exceed by themselves, so that extra push from a teacher can be very helpful. 4.) Should you be held accountable for the quality of work you do in algebra 1? Why? * Yes, you should be held accountable for your quality of work. I make this statement because a student’s progress should be shown throughout their work. Many people might have a different opinion on this but if a student is on a constant progression it should, with no doubt be rendered in that person’s work. 5.) Are you doing everything possible...

...achievement value because although I did finish the assignment it was not my own and that is no achievement to be proud of. To use another’s work is no achievement at all and complete disrespect. When I blacked out at a party that also contradicted many of my values. Getting blacked out is very detrimental to a person’s health and is no way you should treat your body. Blacking out is also unfair to my friends because now I put my body and life in their hands, which is completely unfair and wrong to do. My actions completely ruined their night because they had to take care of me because I could not take care of myself. I should respect them enough to know how to take care of myself and not put that burden on them. Lastly there is no achievement or enjoyment in getting blackout drunk. Waking up in a hospital is not something I enjoy nor is not being able to remember the previous night. All the values I chose that were important to me are incompatible with academic dishonesty. One of my most important values that is totally incompatible with academic dishonesty is achievement. In order to achieve something you need to be able to complete the task on your own. Cheating on a test or a paper is not an achievement it, it is wrong and unacceptable. Achievement is looking at your own work and being proud of what you have done not looking at someone else's work and being proud that you took...

Talent

...10/6/2015 Renaissance Women My talent is more than one talent which some may call it as being multi-talented. I can do pretty much anything once I put my mind to and once it is shown to me one time I will be able to do it without supervision. Below I will list a few of my many talents and compare them from the internet with the outcome of my own work. While home after giving birth to my daughter I picked up a hobby in making baby shower pins. A friend of mine was having a baby shower and needed help in getting her pins done. She was running out of funds so I volunteer in making the pins for her. I went to my local novelty store to see how the pins looked and are made. Once I saw how easy it was I bought all the products that I needed and began making them myself. Once I finished the pins I was very proud of myself and began showing people what I had done. I had gotten great response back which lead to people placing orders and me making this hobby into something that makes me money. My next talent is decorating for parties as well as doing party bags for kid events. My family is the type where we celebrate everything in our lives whether it’s a birth, a birthday, graduation etc. My older cousin was having a party for her son (my little cousin) and the theme was ninja turtles. She asked me if I was able to help her and I agreed to do the party bags. I looked online for unique ideas to make ninja turtle party bags, which I did. Once I found a cute idea I sent it to her and...

He shows values of Christian faith, hard work, self-denial, and simple living. I share many traits with John Proctor such as being loyal, hard working, and having pride. One trait John Proctor and I share is being loyal. One way of John being loyal is being there for his friends. When they went to the court John testified with Giles Corey and Francis Nurse to get Judge Hathorne and Governor Danforth to believe that the girls were lying and pretending to be witches. An example of me being loyal is not breaking any promises I make with anyone. If my friends and...

...and talents each possess. I was bestowed with many talents that I am proud of and make me the individual I am today, but the qualities I am most proud of are my sense of humor and my creative spirit. My sense of humor allows me to live life to the fullest because I can find humor in every situation; this allows me to not be depressed and consumed by one event in life, I can experience every aspect of life under the best circumstances. I am also very creative; I enjoy playing the piano and creating art with my bare hands whether it be with clay or with metal. Because of this talent, I am now able to find beauty in each situation. I can see a miracle when all others see is chaos. Because of these talents, I am the loveable and easy-going person I am today. My sense of humor allows me to be as enjoyable as possible. My mother always says that I can make her laugh during any situation to brighten her day. Others encourage me to be a comedian because of the phrases I use in my daily life. I enjoy making people laugh because one laugh can add seven minutes to an individual’s life and I see how happy others are when I make a simple joke. I feel like I influence lives every time I make someone smile because they could be feeling unhappy and maybe my knock-knock joke lifts their spirits and they go and make someone else smile. It is a chain reaction of happiness, and if I can have small part in making the world a happier place, I will not pass on that opportunity. My...
