CHRONICLES OF LEEDS
It’s a Maloney place in Prison

A tale of tragedy and loss swept the city of Leeds today as a man aged 48 died due to gunshot wounds. Mr Maloney’s stepfather died after a single shot pierced his heart and was dead in an instant. Heartbreakingly, the person behind the gun was Mr Maloney’s step son. The pair had been drinking heavily and celebrating due to Steven’s (Step-son) promotion and things took a turn for the worse when a quarrel broke out about who is the better marksman with a gun. Under the heavy influence of alcohol, the pair then decided to have a ‘quick on the draw’ contest- a challenge only thought as being apparent in a western. Maloney’s stepfather, then fatally, told his step son to ‘Go ahead, if you’ve got the guts’. Much to the dismay of the insult plus the temptation that was offered before him, Mr Maloney then proceeded to shoot at his step father, however he only intended on shooting near him to prove to his Stepfather that indeed he does have ‘the guts’. The Stepfather Michael, died seconds later as the bullets from the shotgun fired by Maloney pierced through his heart and local doctors upon arriving at the scene called the step father as ‘being in a irrecoverable condition’.
Maloney, after firing and thus killing his stepfather, proceeded to call the police and state that ‘he murdered his stepfather’ and that he ‘didn’t aim I just pulled the trigger and he was dead’. PC Powell later told our reporters that Maloney was in a ‘stressed state’ and sounded as though ‘he could cause more harm’. PC Powell and his team arrived at the scene and immediately arrested Maloney with the offence of Manslaughter.
Mr Maloney and his son
Upon being charged, Maloney was fast tracked onto a hearing at the Supreme Court, where hundreds of protesters gathered outside his police escort hurtling objects at the van. Danny Fahy, among those

A lovely woman, kind-hearted, and very loyal. However, not all is well; for several weeks ago, her husband was murdered. The state believes that she is guilty for this horrendous crime. The charges in which have been placed upon her are as following: second degree murder, and obstruction of justice. I now present to you Mrs. Mary Maloney. Please keep this in mind; does she look like someone who would ruthlessly murder her husband? As expected, the state will attempt to punish her to the full extent of the law, blah blah blah. They will attempt to provide “compelling evidence” to you, and will throw any scrap of evidence they have against...

Argument For Temporary Insanity

...insanity. It was a combination of the socking news Mrs Maloney had herd; the hormones that heightened hormones Mrs Maloney had due to being pregnant. Finally the alcohol that Mrs Maloney consumed effected Mrs Maloney’s decision and thought making ability. I think everyone hates shocking news. This is very true for my defendant. My client, Mrs Maloney a sweet stay at home lady that took good care of her husband, heard news that no one should ever hear. Whilst being 6 months pregnant Mrs Maloney found out her husband of 5 years wanted a divorce, leaving her by herself as a single mother. This obviously shocked Mrs Maloney and people can do strange things while in shock. Some people go into shock and shut down, some go into a deep depression and some go temporarily insane and hit their husband with a giant piece if lamb. Mrs Maloney obviously went temporarily insane, being that she has no past criminal charges. The shocking news is one factor of the temporary insanity the next part is hormones. As members of the jury already know Mrs Maloney was 6 months pregnant, and with pregnancy comes hormones. Hormones can affect a women’s mood and actions or create mood...

Critically Evaluate the Law in the Areas of Murder and Voluntary Manslaughter and Include the Consideration of Possible Reforms.

...consideration of possible reforms. Homicide, in English criminal law is a generic term covering offences such as murder, manslaughter and death by dangerous driving. What they all have in common is the unlawful killing of a human being, and what distinguishes them is the state of mind of the defendant who has caused the death or the defences available to them. According to Coke's classic definition, Murder is when a man of sound memory and of an age of discretion unlawfully killed within the any country of the realm any reasonable creature in rerum natura (the person) under the King's peace with malice afore thought either expressed by the party or implied by law. [So as the party wounded etc die of the wound or hurt, etc within a year and a day of the same]. Coke's definition should not be read literally and it is neither accurate or helpful. For instance, any person can be found guilty of murder and the year and a day rule was abolished by S1 law Reform Act 1996. The reference to 'malice afore thought' this suggests some element of planning and ill will on the part of the murder when in truth it can be spontaneous and the law requires no evidence of ill will. From the outset it should be started that a few centuries of Jurisprudence and the odd statutory intervention such fundamental terms as causation & intention let alone when does life begin and end should have been well matured by now. In actual fact case law is inconsistent judicial opinion appears to be in a state...

Mcmartin Preschool Trial Research Paper

...National public justice systems worldwide can provide many different examples of fatal situations that turn into giant losses, ruined careers, and lives. There are many present-day cases, one of those terrible and neglected cases is known as McMartin Preschool Abuse Trial. It is considered to be the most costly and the most overwhelmed criminal trial in the modern history of the American society. According to the official data, during seven years of constant hearings and investigations, the American government spent $ 15 million on prosecutions. However, the investigation finally ended up with no convictions and the crime was never committed. The process involved hundreds of emotionally injured children and broke lives for the McMartin family. Some of the causes had problems in the investigation, public hysteria, and mass media effect, that led to such a tragic. We may all agree on the fact that this “ criminal trial in American history, should serve as a cautionary tale”( Linder, 2003)....

Andy seeks your advice as to whether the IRS is barred from assessing Additional income tax in the event he is audited. What is your advice? It will depend on how much money was omitted. The IRS is barred as long as the amount omitted was less than 25% of gross income and the tax return is not view as fraudulent. The IRS can only go back three years to access additional tax liability. On the other hand, if it is more than 25% the statue of limitation is increased to 6 years, then the IRS is not barred. ...the image of God means, among other things, that man has been commissioned by God to carry out certain responsibilities, like administering justice (Howard “Christians and Capital Punishment”). According to Kronenwetter, Capital punishment—or death—is generally considered the most terrible penalty society can inflict not only because it is the most violent of all legal punishments, but because it is the most final and complete ( Dieter “Sentencing For Life”). The definition of Capital punishment is “The lawful infliction of death as a punishment; the death penalty” (“Wests Encyclopedia of American Law”). In my opinion, As a Christian man and a citizen of the United States, capital punishment should be handled at state levels and the criminals convicted after a fair trial for a murder should be given the death penalty. As Christians and citizens of the United States, capital punishments have caused numerous deaths, has had different interpretations between the Old testament compared to the New Testament, has created disagreements and arguments in favor of and against capital punishment, has left the U.S. seemingly contradicting the United States constitution. First, one has to recognize the numerous...

...Conduct - this is the act of damaging or destroying something/someone. * Circumstances - this is the fact that the property must belong to another. * Consent - this is the resulting damage or destruction of the act. Causation Causation, also known as result crimes is when a consequence has come about as a result of the Actus Reus being committed. When establishing causation the first step is to ask 'was the defendant's act a cause in the fact of the specified consequence?' This can be answered by asking 'But for what the defendant did would the consequence have occurred?' If the answer is YES then the result wouldn't have occurred if not for the defendant's acts and, therefore causation is established. A case which shows the chain of causation is the case of R v White (1910) the defendant put cyanide into his mother's lemonade, however she died of a heart failure before she drank the poison. The answer to the question 'But for what the defendant did would she have died' is NO she would've died anyway. The defendant had the Actus Reus as he had put the cyanide in his mothers drink and he also had the Mens Rea as he knew that by doing this he would kill her. He was found guilty of...

Bullying

...Historically, in cases of peer-to-peer abuse, whether physical or emotional, the blame is laid on the belligerent boys or girls. The bystanders who hover, chime in, or squirm on the outskirts of the 'mean' action are dismissed as irrelevant. Also dismissed are those who spread the tale of the victim's woe through the grapevine. In truth, however, this supporting cast plays a significant role in peer-to-peer violence....Bystanders make or break bullying episodes." (Our Children) This article examines the role of the bystander in bullying incidents and outlines some strategies to help encourage young bystanders to act in these situations. OUR CHILDREN Nov./Dec. 2003, pp. 8-10 Reprinted with permission from National PTA. Article originally appeared in OUR CHILDREN magazine, Vol.29, No.3, November/December 2003 pp. 8-10. The Bystander: A Bully's Often-Unrecognized Accomplice By Margaret Sagarese and Charlene C. Giannetti A few years ago, an upstate New York newspaper headline noted that 60 high school girls and boys, ages 14 to 21, faced criminal prosecution for leering at and cheering on two brawling 15-year-old boys. The headline and accompanying story startled us. What we found amazing about this news item was that the police were holding "the human boxing ring" accountable. The "innocent bystander" status usually accorded people on the periphery of such violence was ruled out. The furor over the Glenbrook North High School (Northbrook, Illinois)...

A Witching Hunt

...A Witch Hunt or Not Today, we are exposed to many details pertaining to a time when superficial abilities/powers were thought to be real and practiced. One of these situations was known as a witch hunt. A witch hunt was commonly known to take place when there was a search for those that were supposedly witches. Once caught, these individuals were usually persecuted. As time has passed, witch hunts have evolved and are looked at differently. Witch hunts now are viewed as campaigns against a person or group holding unorthodox or unpopular views which leads to persons with any known reasons wanting to punish another sometimes even for personal gains. This leads me to my question: Were people too quick to judge and given too much freedom to decide the fate of individuals whose actions were unproven, deemed against the law, or just misunderstood? It is hard to comprehend sometimes the decisions made by people and their effects on others. When decisions/judgments are made based on nothing but assumption and emotion, they can be sickening when we think about the pure injustice on the obvious innocence of the victims. These types of situations are considered, witch hunts. Sometimes, the very officials that proved whether or not the accused were guilty or innocent, forged evidence to support their own claim. Honestly, I have a difficult time looking into these stories because of how “stupid” (in my opinion) some of these people were and how outrageous their claims...

...Online Social Networking Paper Name SOC/100 Date Instructor Name Online Social Networking Paper Social websites have become a large part of everyday life for many, and none looms larger than Facebook. A social network with 1.11 billion monthly users, and 655 million daily active users ("Iamwire", 2013), Facebook, at its very basic core offers the ability to communicate with others from all over the world. What is communicated, and to whom is entirely up to the user. Some choose to update friends and family on happenings in their lives, while others take a more passive approach and use the site to simply stay in touch with loved ones. Videos, pictures, and music can be shared on Facebook, and as a result has been a key promotional tool for companies looking to sell their products. Official pages have been created for films, artists, food chains, and various other services as a way to spread word of new promotions, as well as communicate directly to consumers. Some of the team’s experiences were initially consumed by Facebook. The ability to find old friends, update others with our own happenings, and catch up with former classmates and co-workers was hard to resist. However, that rush faded and their participation went from active to passive rather quickly. One observation of the website contends with an image of astonishing happiness than to really form deep relationships. A revelation that sees little middle ground between those who share too much, and others who do not...

A Tale of Two Londons

...A Tale of Two Londons Who really lives at One Hyde Park, called the world’s most expensive residential building? Its mostly absentee owners, hiding behind offshore corporations based in tax havens, provide a portrait of the new global super-wealthy. BY NICHOLAS SHAXSON Up until the 18th century, Knightsbridge, which borders genteel Kensington, was a lawless zone roamed by predatory monks and assorted cutthroats. It didn’t come of age until the Victorian building boom, which left a charming legacy of mostly large and beautiful Victorian houses, with their trademark white or cream paint, black iron railings, high ceilings, and short, elegant stone steps up to the front door. This will not be the impression a visitor now gets as he emerges from the Knightsbridge subway station’s south exit. He will be met by four hulking joined-up towers of glass, metal, and concrete, sandwiched between the Victorian splendors of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, to the east, and a pretty five-story residential block, to the west. This is One Hyde Park, which its developers insist is the world’s most exclusive address and the most expensive residential development ever built anywhere on earth. With apartments selling for up to $214 million, the building began to smash world per-square-foot price records when sales opened, in 2007. After quickly shrugging off the global financial crisis the complex has come to embody the central-London real-estate market, where, as high-end property consultant...
