This paper will examine the roles and responsibilities of organizational managers and leaders in creating and maintaining a healthy organizational culture within AT&T. I will also differentiate between management and leadership within AT&T as well as describe the roles in which both managers and leaders play in creating and maintaining a healthy organizational culture within AT&T. I will go on to explain how the leading function of management supports the creation and maintenance of a healthy organizational culture within AT&T. Finally, I will conclude with my recommendations that both managers and leaders can use to create and maintain a healthy organizational culture within AT&T. The responsibilities of the managers within AT&T are to monitor employees’ performance, provide feedback during progress reviews, and identify areas of improvements and employee recognition. AT&T also has leaders, which are classified as work leaders. Their duties are to aid employees like themselves in their day-to-day job duties. Work leaders tend to be more experienced employees who managers delegate this responsibility. Although the two terms management and leadership appear to be similar, I can assure you they could not be more different. Someone can be a manager but not necessarily a leader. By definition, managers have subordinates and leaders have followers. (Changing Minds, 2008) There are vast dissimilarities between a manager and a leader at AT&T. They have very different attitudes towards goals. A manager within AT&T’s organization goals are tied to the culture of the organization based on the four functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling), whereas leaders approach goals on a personal level. Leaders tend to promote his or her own ideas rather than conform to the “Big Picture”
