Course Objectives This course emphasizes the use of accounting information for internal purposes, as opposed to the external disclosure focus of the financial accounting courses. We cover the vocabulary and mechanics of cost accounting and the design of management accounting systems for planning and controlling operations, and for motivating personnel. The course integrates accounting with ideas from data analysis, decision analysis, finance, microeconomics, and operations management. The themes stressed throughout the course are: the notion that information is costly; the circumstances that necessitate cost allocation, and the idea that different costs and different allocation schemes apply for different purposes; and the fundamentals of incentive and compensation plans. Among the topics covered are cost behavior, cost-volume analysis, relevant costs, and the use of cost information for decision-making. II. ...highest to the lowest magnitude possible. In short, the grid connects the consumers to the electricity supply utilities (Vittal & Ayyanar, 2013, pg. 162). The renewable energy integration into the main grid can take place in the distribution or at the transmission levels. The point at which integration takes place depends on the size or the scale of the electricity generation. Large generating stations directly feed the main grid. Unlike large generating stations, the small distributed generations feed the low or medium voltage lines. The design on each of the interconnection techniques to be used depends on the future and present challenges. ...Important Test questions –B200B Question (1): Differentiate between the following: 1. Marketing and selling The Answer: Marketing: Marketing means working with markets to bring about exchanges for the purpose of satisfying human needs and wants. Marketing must be understood not in the old sense of making a sale – selling – but in the new sense of satisfying customer needs. Selling Selling or promotions are part of a larger marketing mix, the concept is typically practiced with unsought goods – those that buyers do not normally think of buying, such as encyclopedias and funeral plots it starts with the factory, focuses on the company’s existing product and calls for heavy selling and promotion to obtain profit sales. Consumers will not buy enough of the organization’s products unless it undertakes a large scale effort in selling and promotion. A selling oriented organization thus focuses on short terms results; because they care only for their sales not for customer’s satisfaction and they are not searching or looking for long term relationship with customers. 2. Goods and services Answer: Goods and services Goods (tangible, stored, production precedes, consumption, low customer contact, transported, quality is evident) Service (intangible, can't be stored, production and consumption are simultaneous, high customer contact, can't transported, quality difficult to judge) 1- Tangibility: - Goods are tangible and services are intangible...

...Human Resources Planning 2010 Planning Task Force Report January 2009 INTRODUCTION The quality and expertise of the faculty and staff is crucial to the continuing success and excellence of Grand Valley State University. Grand Valley is often recognized for its overall excellence. As with any institution of higher education, this standard of excellence directly relates to the faculty members, whose efforts support the Grand Valley mission of “educating students to shape their lives, their professions and their societies,” and to the senior management and staff of the university, who lead and support these efforts. A key part of success is the stability of the workforce and the implementation of the transference of leadership and the community culture to those who will be members of the faculty and staff in 2010 and beyond. Compounding the need for planning is the widespread concern that the imminent retirement of the “baby boomers” will cause an exodus of talent in a very short timeframe. Without a firm plan, such turnover of talent could make it difficult to sustain the quality of the faculty, leadership and staff of Grand Valley. To assure university leadership, our community, and stakeholders that Grand Valley is prepared for its workforce of the future, President Haas charged the Human Resource Planning Task Force to study this important issue and report to the campus community. The task force studied Grand Valley data, considering projections of retirements, faculty growth...

OSFS have told Ahmad that they are embarking on a ‘Carbon Responsibility’ program and will be including the carbon footprint data of their 10 major suppliers in their next customer newsletter. This includes XYZ and their main competitors. Ahmad explains that XYZ have not undertaken a carbon footprint exercise, but that they consider themselves to be a green company. OSFS state that of the retailer's 10 major suppliers, XYZ is the only one with no information. Ahmad asks for 2 weeks to come back with results for their carbon footprint. He calls James, a local environmental consultant, to ask if he can quickly process the data and calculate XYZ's carbon footprint. Background to the company XYZ are a Balakong-based furniture maker founded in 2002.
