Managing Brands

...To be ‘successful’ a brand needs to establish both points of parity and points of difference with competitors’ brands. A brand is a crucial aspect of any business today due to the increasing competition within many markets. Consumers have a wide range of products and services to choose from yet they are becoming more alike due to trends in technology therefore a brand needs to be more than just a symbol, logo, name or design. In order to gain a competitive advantage, brands are adding other dimensions that create a unique and meaningful identity in consumers’ minds. These brand associations are also known as points of difference. However, some associations are ‘not necessarily unique to the brand but may in fact be shared with other brands’ (Keller, 2012pg44). These are known as points of parity which are functionally similar or equal associations that give consumers no reason against buying a specific brand. However, it is arguable whether a brand needs to establish points of parity and points of difference with competitors’ brands in order to be successful. This paper looks at buyers of competing retailers and their purchase motives, brand differentiation, brand associations, brand salience, brand mantra USE CATERGORIZATION MODEL, IMPLICATIONS FOR BRAND EQUITY MANAGEMENT,,, CATEGORY DOMINATED BY TWO MAINB BRANDS SO EVALUATE POSITIONING OF EACH USING E.G OF TARGET MARKETS AND POPS AND PODS. Managing Hotel Brand Equity

...Managing Hotel Brand Equity Summary: This research article examines what constitutes brand equity in the hotel industry and demonstrates a method for how that brand equity can be measured. It first states that the chief reason for building brand equity as the cornerstone for business success is that it helps offset competition by differentiating the product, allowing brand owners to charge a premium, and fostering customer loyalty. The brand embodies all that the business stands for. A brand’s strength develops over a long period of time, and a strong brand is expensive to create. Managing brand equity is made increasingly difficult by the rapid proliferation
of new brands, dramatic increases in media costs, the more extensive and aggressive use of promotions by established firms, and the cost and difficulty of obtaining distribution. Brands are a quick way for hotels and hotel chains to identify and differentiate themselves in the minds of the customers. The favorable or unfavorable attitudes and perceptions that are formed and influence a customer to book at a hotel brand represent the brand equity. A guest’s good experience with a hotel brand builds brand equity, while a bad experience erodes that brand equity. A person does not need first-hand experience with the brand to form an impression of a brand, though, for brand equity is formed among non-users by exposure to media messages or by word-of-mouth. Brand equity is a measure derived from a range of customer-satisfaction...

Industry Trend and Development Going forward, we still firmly believe that issues relating to size and brand power will continue to be the predominant competitive features that businesses in the retail fashion industry have to address. Shopping malls, both new and existing ones, are getting larger, and the stores located within them are also expanding in size. The newly-opened Berjaya Times Square and Ikea Store can attest to that. And given the continuing proliferation of brands and the numerous communication channels that exist, it will get increasingly tougher to reach, secure and retain customers.
