...competitiveness of ManUtd after the takeover by Malcolm Glazer? After Malcom Glazer invested 1.4$ billion in Manchester United he had to create new strategies and face some challenges. To be sucessful Manchester United had to raise their profit, because of the globalization. Football clubs are not only sport teams, but they are quite normal companies. They had to go with the time and charge with their global brand the whole world. So they went global and attack the asian market in form of creating a Mandarin (most known language in the world) website, making Asia tours with some friendly games and establish a football school in Hong Kong. By the way they had another benefit. From 2005 to 2012 the player Park, Ji-Sung was playing for them who was treated like a hero in Asia and especially in Korea. Moreover Glazer changed the financial thinking of the club by cutting costs in many non-profit-making sectors e.g. many players were lending to other clubs or by cutting executives. Second he raised the revenue in form of raised ticket prices and good sponsorship. The interest in ManU and the global brand of the „Red Devils“ grew. This can be seen in the better getting sponsorship which led to raising revenues every year. All in all Malcolm Glazer had to go through fire with his aggresive strategies, because many fans were against him, but in the end he was succesful and developed Manchester United finally to a global company. 2. The club currently has 24 boys and girls (ranging in age from under 9 to 16) on teams affiliated with the Hampshire Soccer Association and the Granite State Girls Soccer League. The club's board of directors decided in the fall to sponsor a summer invitational soccer tournament to generate revenue. Given the boom in youth soccer, hosting summer tournaments has become a popular method for raising funds. MUSC teams regularly compete in three to four tournaments each summer at different locales in New England. These tournaments have been reported to generate between $50,000 and $70,000 for the host club. MUSC needs additional revenue to refurbish and expand the number of soccer fields at the Rock Rimmon soccer complex. ...the following questions: Part A: 1) Was the decision to build a new airport at Denver strategically a sound decision? No, building a new airport at Denver was not a strategically sound decision. In reviewing the preliminary evaluations and reasons given for building the airport, strategically the city of Denver was looking to improve facilities in order to reduce costs, enhance service, and increase income. The project was implemented and pushed by pride and the desire of city leadership (politicians) to build a “thing of beauty” to represent the city and their accomplishments. From the defining the project and planning stage it became obvious that customers were not wanting to go forward fearing increased costs (United, Continental, even the cargo customers). Construction started (grading and preparing the site and infrastructure) in 1989 before bids were even obtained for the main parts of the project – the construction of improvements. The project was pushed forward even though the customers were not consulted, customers were not buying-in, specifications not finalized and the project estimates were just top-down rough estimates (time, cost, requirements). From the beginning it seems the project was not strategically aligned with Denver strategy, goals and needs. 7) Was DIA a good strategic fit for Continental? No, DIA was not a good strategic fit for Continental. Continental was downsizing and experiencing financial difficulties. It was...

...reference to examples, evaluate the success or otherwise of urban regeneration schemes in combating the causes and consequences of urban decline (40) Urban decline was a problem faced by many inner city areas in the UK from the 1970’s onwards, and occurs when people move out of an areas because of factors such as deindustrialisation and depleting job availability. This leads to areas becoming unsightly, dangerous places to live which this government has tried to reverse in the past 40 years, with varying levels of success. In this essay I will be investigating the varying levels of success that different decision making governments have had at regenerating Hulme in Manchester, the city centre of Birmingham and Greenwich in London. Hulme is located 1½ kilometres from the central business district (CBD) of Manchester. It reached what could be said to be its lowest point of decline in the 70’s, shortly before conservative leader John Major introduced the Hulme City Challenge Partnership. At this point in time, 98% of the 5500 dwelling in Hulme were council owned; half of these were part of a deck access system which were very unsafe and the layout helped to facilitate crime. As well as this, many of these dwellings housed single parents or people with social problems, which provided evidence for the idea that the local authority had used the area to ‘dump’ some of its more unfortunate residents. The Hulme City Challenge Partnership was introduced in 1992, where plans were made...

Stephen is forty years old and is married to a drunk and distressed wife who is constantly drinking away her sorrows from being part of the lower echelon of society as well as wandering in and out of his life. Blackpool dreams of being free of their marriage and re-marrying another character, Rachel, however their love cannot be as for a person in his social status divorce does not come easily. Stephen works in one of Bounderby’s factories as a power loom weaver, and worked long hard hours for meager pay just to sustain himself. Despite all of these misfortunes that he had to endure during his daily life, Blackpool was a man of great faith and integrity. He was a firm Christian and believed that his trials were not in vain, proving so by living that philosophy every day. All of these traits together bring the reader a picture of a poor in money but rich in spirit middle-aged man who works hard for a living and is an overall admirable character in the storyline. The time in which Blackpool lived, the 19th century, was at the heart of the industrial revolution and Stephens’...
