...Why manners are important in today's society. I think manners are important in today's society because it's a personality trait that's good to have. It's practically a necessity. Great manners help you through a lot of life's obstacles for different reasons. Consideration is a reason why manners are important which goes along with your maturity level and how polite you can be on a daily basis. It shows you're a decent person, and that you understand and have respect for the people around you. Manners are very important when it comes to a good social life, ever since elementary school we were taught to use our manners and be polite to the people we tal k to everyday. People judge you all the time, it's just a way of life, and having great manners brings off a positive response and attitude toward other people, and people will unconsciously think of you as a polite and caring person. Another reason that manners exist for a good reasons is, coexistence. Without polite people around, and well manners, coexistence between humans would be quite difficult I think. Manners are just the guidelines to peaceful coexistence between people, and without it, I think it would be a different kind of society to be living in, kind of like animals. Without manners it would be kind of difficult to have a social life, get a job, have any sort of relationship with people etc. Most of the time we don't think about using our manners everyday, but because it has such a big impact on our...

...Manners in Our Society I used to get annoyed at my father for judging the type of music and television that I liked and not allowing it at home when I was growing up. I have since gained a respect for what my parents were “judging”. Children do not pay attention to actual content and a lot of messages can be slipped into a catchy tune or a popular program. My parents were right these influences do have an effect upon how “kids these days are raising themselves”. Manners have declined due to disrespectful music lyrics, anti-authoritative television programming and parents not paying attention to what influences their children in media The lyrics in music have gotten more disrespectful as time has gone by. Parents need to pay attention to what their children are really hearing. How have we gone from Louie Armstrong’s, “It’s A Wonderful World” to Twisted Sister’s, “We’re Not Gonna Take It”? When I was growing up in the 1970’s my parents did not approve of music in our home with bad messages, morals and attitudes. Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” was considered demonic and was definitely not played in our home. When I had my own children I understood my parents point of view. I also found myself banning certain music from our atmosphere at home as well. I noticed how much more disrespectful it had gotten from the 1970’s to the 1990’s and 2000’s. Eminem and Dr, Dre for example are not role models I wanted my children idolizing at all. The role models...

...Write a note on "Pygmalion as a comedy" of manners. Comedies of manners are plays which are "set in the world of the upper class, and ridicule the pretensions of those who consider themselves socially superior, deflating them with satire. With witty dialogue and cleverly constructed scenarios, comedies of manners comment on the standards and mores of society and explore the relationships of the sexes." The play Pygmalion is many things, and one of those is certainly a comedy of manners. Pygmalion is less of a farce than the earlier comedies of manners. While there are certainly miscommunications (especially at the beginning between Eliza and Higgins) they generally don't create changes to the plot. But in several other respects Pygmalion is a comedy of manners; most especially in its satire of both the upper and lower classes. Higgins, though a respected figure and "professor of phonetics" is an example of much of what is wrong, in Shaw's mind, with the upper class of Britain -- particularly the upper class intellectual male (a class to which Shaw, himself, belonged!) Higgins is a master of his subject, and, as he boasts, is not only able to place with minute accuracy London accents, but is able to train the most entrenched Cockney accents (Eliza's) into the tones of Mayfair. But with all his learning and accomplishments Higgins has left his humanity behind. He has to be forced (with only limited success, by Mrs. Pearce, Eliza, and Colonel Pickering) to understand that Eliza...

...Al Lopez Lopez1 Mr. Berrett Public Speaking January 28th, 2016 “Are Manners Really That Important?” As a child growing up in the United States during the late 70’s and early 80’s “manners’” were a huge part of my upbringing. Not only were manners being taught to me at home, they were also being taught and reinforced at school. I never really thought of it as having a sensitive awareness to the feelings of others. I just figured at the time, it was just the way my family did things. Little did I know that the manners I was being taught would serve a purpose throughout my life. Today as I look around, whether I’m out in public, work or even within my own family, I must say there are very little signs of any basic manners being taught anymore. So my question is how important are manners in todays society? So what are manners, where did they come from and what purpose do they serve? Well let’s start with the very definition of the word manners. (manners) polite or well-bred social behavior, social conduct: According to John Daly founder and president of the key class. Today’s etiquette is said to have been started by the French. It started in the royal courts in the early 1600’s and 1700’s. King Louie the XIV had his gardener put up signs called “etiquettes” when he found that the aristocrats...

...The 3 key points you would take into account about the Maple company/business in order to define the “best possible candidate” are: 1. High-profile customers: Maple’s clients are high-income people that expect “a high level of professionalism from the staff”, and the course is expected to be in an “impeccable condition”. We believe that the first statement is more important for the job, as professional staff can be taught to have the course in an impeccable condition. Therefore, candidates have to be friendly to customers, good looking, have good manners and good attitude to learn. 2. Physical requirement and teamwork: Candidates have to be physically prepared for the job, and have to be able to start working at 5:30 am with a smile on their face, for which we need an active and fit person. Additionally, the job characteristics require team players. 3. Poor pay and seasonality: The job has a low pay in addition to being offered for only 8 months per year. Additionally, candidates must be happy with their positions in order to be nice to clients. This probably involves that the person you are looking for is someone who had an even worse job. The key aspect in choosing someone would be that the person does not have an attractive alternative job in terms of salary or job scope. Even if this candidate does not have optimal skills, we can train him and bring him to speed. Additionally, someone who, for example, is used to cleaning bathrooms, could be very happy working in a distinguished...

...residents of cities, who are familiar with vice, tends to lower the moral tone of the students; and he adduces many facts in proof of his position. There is undoubtedly much truth in this view. Large colleges certainly have a large ratio of dissolute-or, put it less harshly, wild-students than smaller institutions. But this can be truthfully said of their vices: They are more gentlemanly and less vulgar than those practised in country colleges. City students may drink more, and occasionally gamble; but they never give the Professors a charivari, or attack the President with bad eggs, or conspire against the college authorities and get expelled in a body. They have more affection and respect for their Alma Mater-more esprit de corps-more urbane manners. Students however, are not a class suigeneris. They are what their instincts and surroundings make them. An educated gentlemen is apt to be a gentleman even though he be a student; and being a student doesn't prevent him from being a rowdy, if he was born such. Mobs of course lose the human instinct; and we need not look to college-life to find examples of men who act like ruffians when in a...

...think about it, we've probably all been one of those "people" once or twice. We all know we're not supposed to act like rude people, but in certain situations, it's hard to remember not to. To avoid this image, we can simply try to be polite and use manners. When we were all young, our parents "trained" us to use the pleases and thankyous, to share, and to be courteous to the people around us. Now, all of those things are common sense to us. Although, there are many manners that we don't know, and some of them are pretty ridiculous! For instance, it is actually impolite to say "pardon" after blowing your nose in front of someone. The correct response is "sorry" or nothing at all. Have you ever written in red pen? It is considered disrespectful to the reader if you write in coloured pen other than blue, unless of course you are a teacher. If you're planning on having a conversation with someone any time soon, listen to these tips. You should never have your hands on your lap when you are talking to someone, and never tilt your head when listening. These gestures are said to show disinterest in the topic. Who would think that there was a proper posture for having a casual conversation with someone? After hearing all of those manners, you're probably wondering who came up with all this funny stuff? Well, Today no one is really sure where it all started, but we are guessing that in prehistoric times people discovered that acting pleasant around each other made life more enjoyable...

For this purpose, two versions of Okun’s law —‘the difference’ version and ‘the gap’ version — were tried using annual time series data on growth rate of gross domestic product and unemployment for the period from 1974 to 2009. As the variables included in both the models were stationary at the level, the ordinary least squares method was employed to extract the coefficient of Okun’s law. Neither of the models witnessed existence of Okun’s law to Pakistan Economy. The study recommends further research on the issue incorporating the possible interaction between inflation and unemployment. ...By: MALIKA SHAHID ~ The line between the public life and private life has been erased, due to the rapid decline of manners and courtesy. There is a certain crudeness and crassness that has suddenly become accepted behavior, even desirable. ~ Fannie Flagg, author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café. The days of “Please, May I and thank you” is apparently diminishing. The much talked about “next generation” is either entangled in social networking sites or are much too busy dallying around. At this rate, manners and etiquettes may soon be wiped out from our society. The disappearing social grace in this day and age is truly a cause for concern. The biggest problem of today’s generation is freedom. Well, excess freedom to be precise. This freedom entered our society in a sudden flood of rights which people hadn’t expected before. In the name of these rights we are now willing to go to any extent to achieve what we want. Throughout this struggle we have forgotten the line between decency and downright rudeness. We have forgotten that our words, our actions hold the power to hurt someone’s sentiments. If we cannot show gratitude towards one another, then why should we go around offending people? Ever heard of karma? Whatever goes around comes around. If your demeanor exudes ill breeding then I’m afraid others would definitely treat in the same manner. In today’s culture there is a huge distinction between the social classes of the society. The rich and powerful...
