During the post classical age, cities in the Muslim society played a crucial role in the trade between both Muslim and non-Muslim cities, the diffusion of the Islamic religion, and the aesthetics of the cities and surrounding areas. Many of the Muslim cities were located along Muslim trade routes. According to document 5, the city of Tabriz was strategically located so that merchants from surrounding areas such as India, Baghdad, and several countries in Europe would come to sell goods and purchase products from local merchants. In document 5, Marco Polo also describes that Tabriz had manufactured many goods such as silk, and silk with gold. Marco Polo probably had a very favorable view of Tabriz because he was a merchant, and saw a great
