Physical Appearance
Marie Elliot was the kind of student teachers might call promising or eccentric or offensive. Promising for her uncanny ability with facts and numbers, eccentric for the way she often looked out the window for a moment too long or carried a different age-yellowed book each day, and offensive for just about everything else.
Every person in the world was balanced at birth; built a skill for every a flaw, an asset for every enemy. Marie was no exception. Lacking any desire or drive, she had precariously avoided all homework assignments, despite her prodigiously impressive intellect. Or rather, one might assume, because of it.
