The Baroque music was closely related to the church and court life. The music was used for religion in those times were progressively dramatic and worldly. One of the most common music known today originated in this era and it is known as opera. The music throughout this period was known to be elegant, vividly expressive music. Two composers in this period were known to be the two giants: Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Bach was known to write music in almost every form. He was mostly famous for playing the organ and being a choir master of various churches in Germany. His music is full with rich harmonies and elaborate counterpoints.
The modern system of major and minor scales, with 12 different notes or tones originated around this time and they gradually came into use. The system is known as tonality. Another characteristics of the baroque music was the continuo, an accompaniment played by the bass instrument and the keyboard.
