Marilyn Monroe, arguably the most famous woman of the 20th century, was hidden behind her typecasting as a provocative, dumb blonde. Emerging as America’s first sex symbol in the late 1950’s, Monroe was different and immediately attracted attention, while her well-being was disregarded. Although her career was prosperous, it was cut short by her death in 1962: a death that is still debated heavily today. Her photos hanging in teen girl’s rooms, her movies still glorified, Marilyn Monroe lives on. Her life was nowhere near perfect and the other side of Marilyn, the madness, is what will be divulged here today.
In the summer of 1926, Marilyn, formerly Norma Jeane Mortenson, was born into a fatherless home and forced to live out her early life …show more content…
Their love was somewhat unconventional and it was coupled with a madness of its own. Prior to their marriage, the two met in secret for nearly half a year whilst Miller was still married to his wife. The attraction between them was magnetic, undeniable if you will, which was an easy target for gossip columnists like Walter Winchell. (Bigsby “Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller”) After being ousted, things were looking up for Monroe and Miller, being able to share their relationship with their friends and family including Arthur’s children, Bobby and Jane, was a relief. Miller took the time to introduce Marilyn to his parents, whom she adored and remained in contact with for the rest of her life. To the public eye, the two were going to tie the knot soon enough, it was just a matter of time. (Morgan 223) They were married in a civil ceremony, with 30 friends and relatives present, which could be considered the happiest moment of Marilyn’s life. Things quickly turned around, heading south. In the absence of Miller, she experienced a miscarriage, confessing to her director, “‘it was for him. He didn't know. It was going to be a surprise. Then he would see that I could be a real wife, and a real mother.” (Monroe “Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller”) It took some time, but the Millers had accepted domesticity living on Long Island. It wasn’t long before the madness had taken over, more marital problems with Arthur occurred, which were ultimately her breaking point. She had found a diary entry of Miller’s where he stated he was “disappointed” in her, manifesting Marilyn’s biggest fear into a reality. The connection between them was lost but nevertheless, they remained together thereafter. (Kashner “Marilyn and Her Monsters”) Their relationship was mainly a façade, adding to Marilyn’s insecurities and extreme stress. “Both had their own resentments of each other- the

...Marilyn Monroe started her acting career when she was 20 years old. Although the name “Marilyn Monroe” was popular, it was not her real name. “At age twenty Monroe had her first screen test, signed a contract with 20th Century-Fox, and adopted her stage name of Marilyn Monroe (she legally changed her name in 1956).” (Margot A. ...Megan Jones English III AP DC Cy Woods Mr. Barckholtz December 2, 2012 Arthur Miller Research Essay Arthur Miller was an American playwright who wrote plays such as “The Crucible” and “Death of a Salesman” because he thought theatre could change the world. He wrote his works based on friends, his own life, and family. People believed he was a man of integrity and a hero because of the ways he portrayed himself. He was born in 1915 in Harlem, New York and raised in a very wealthy household by his parents, Isidore and Augusta Miller. After high school Miller worked lots of jobs to save up enough money to attend the University of Michigan, where he wrote his first paper that turned into his first play, called “No Villain”. Once he realized what he was good at, he moved east to start his new career. There he met his first wife Mary Slattery, but their relationship did not last long, and three weeks after the divorce he married actress Marilyn Monroe. This relationship was very good look for him because of what Marilyn Monroe’s career was at the time. He “divorced Monroe after five years”, and several months later “got married to Inge Morath”, whom he had two children with, Rebecca and Daniel Miller. There was one flaw about this family though, that “Miller excluded his son Daniel out of their lives” for the longest time. Miller did not want Daniel around because Daniel was diagnosed with Down syndrome, but Miller’s daughter, Rebecca, was married to a wise man...

Nutrition

...The Impact of Media on Nutrition, Body Image, and Public Health Bio 111 Lonnie Burt, MS, RO, CD-N Shannon Oliver March 3, 2012 Draft for Research Paper When it comes to health the first person who is expected to guide nutritional diets should be a healthcare professional. However, over time in lieu of that healthcare professional the television box and magazines have been the guideline to a healthier lifestyle. Not only has these media outlets been a guideline, it has also been an illustration of how the ideal body shape should be. The media has also acted as the source of distraction, distress, and illusions, therefore being counterproductive to the same purpose which it served in the nutritional aspect. The distraction is shown in the obesity rates in children ages 12 and under who are unable to detach themselves from the TV screen, therefore refusing to be active. Distress is shown between the young adults between 12 and 20 battling with anorexia nervosa and/or bulimia. The illusions are counted by the number of diets being falsely advertised to manipulate people into thinking there is a way to lose 30 pounds in 3 weeks. The mass media has an overwhelming effect on our everyday lives because of the power and ubiquity that has been gained over time. The direct correlation between media and nutrition along with body image are shown to effect people through eating disorders, poor nutritional health, and obesity. The Impact of Media on Nutrition, Body Image, and Public...

...BURGER KING® IN MALAYSIA In 1954, James McLamore and David Edgerton opened their first BURGER KING® restaurant in Miami, Florida. These visionaries had extensive experience in restaurant business and a shared belief in the guiding principle of offering reasonably priced quality food, served quickly, in attractive, clean surroundings. Our Vision today honors their original vision. When America was introduced to the signature flavor of the Original WHOPPER® Sandwich in 1957, it was selling for only 37 cents. It was an instant sensation and immediately became our flagship product. Today the WHOPPER® is world renowned for its flame-grilled taste and the many ways customers can order it to their liking. The great success of the early restaurants made the BURGER KING® concept a franchise success. The concept spread rapidly throughout the 1960s and in 1963 the first international franchise restaurant opened in Puerto Rico. While the vision for the BURGER KING® brand hasn't changed over time, our restaurants have. The early BURGER KING® restaurants distinguished themselves from others by their self-serve ordering and outdoor patio seating. Burger King Corporation pioneered dining rooms in the fast food industry when it began to enclose its patio seating in 1957. For the first time, fast-food customers could comfortably eat their food at a table inside a restaurant. Burger King Corporation demonstrated its innovation again in 1975 when it began to offer drive-thru service at its...
