Marketing Mix
Living in a city as small as El Paso and attempting to open a Fitness gym has its challenges. Small gyms are competing with national chains and their low prices. As a small owner you must have a great product, and service. Many times you will have a much higher price than those other gyms but it comes to the service you are offering in combination with the product.
In my H-KO Boxing Fitness gym we focused on the one on one experience of having a professional boxer, Muay Thai specialist (Kickboxing), grappling specialist, cross fit specialist, personal trainer, to include a visit with a nutritionist as part of the price. We had a large clientele list that included law enforcement, young men that wanted the discipline and knowledge to defend themselves and women that wanted the self confidence to handle whatever life threw at them.
Our product was a unique experience to train people as if they were gearing up for a fight. We did everything in twelve week cycles in which each week we introduce a new challenge to the body. Starting with cardio and stamina, what the goal was to increase the metabolic rates on the person would feel the workout without risking injuries due to inactivity. Many of the local chain gyms focus on the membership, and they do staff personal trainers however they focus on a class at a time. They will not focus on a specific person unless you pay the premium price for membership.
Local gyms will charge for this service at a premium rate of over $150 per month plus membership fees. In H-KO Boxing Fitness Gym we charged $99 per month, that included the membership, personal trainer, and all the combative as part of the membership, a fresh clean towel at start of every workout and water bottles. If a member did not want to do combative training we would simply change the approach and introduce cross-fit which is another
