...are not always what cartoons tend to describe them. We sometimes think and refer to a hero as someone that will come and save us flying or doing some sort magic, but that is not what a hero is. A hero is someone with tremendous amount of courage and bravery and will be in the front line ready for any duty or obstacle comes upon them. One of the greatest 20th century hero ever lived is Audie Murphy. Born in Kingston, Hunt County, Texas on June 20, 1924, Audie Murphy was raised in a sharecropper’s dilapidated house. His father fell short on his parental responsibilities and eventually abandoned his family leaving Audie to pick up his slack and take care of his mother and younger siblings. Soon after, his mother passed away and to honor her death he enlisted in the military. Audie soon became the most decorated U.S. soldier in World War II. Though he was only 21 years old at the end of the war, he had killed more than 240 German soldiers, had been wounded three times, and had earned 33 awards and medals. One of Audie’s most courageous moments in combat started on January 26, 1945. Murphy and Company B found themselves on the outskirts of woods facing the German village of Holtzwihr. The weather was miserably cold and uncomfortable as the American force waited tensely for an attack. Suddenly, six heavily equipped German tanks appeared supported by a large infantry began moving toward them and instantly put two American tank destroyers out of action. Audie ordered his men to retreat...

He remained in California for the rest of his life and was closely associated with the movie industry, both as an actor and a producer. He acted in 44 films, starring in 39 of them. His best known film was "To Hell and Back," adopted from the best selling book of his war experiences by the same name. Most of his movies were westerns. In 1955, Audie Murphy was voted the Most Popular Western Actor in America by the Motion Picture Exhibitors. Audie wrote the lyrics to 16 country and western songs, the most popular of which was "Shutters and Boards," written with Scott Turner in 1962. The song was recorded by over 30 pop singers, including Jerry Wallace, Dean Martin, and Porter Waggoner. He was an accomplished poet; unfortunately,...

...some of the best ensembles of any given year, but can he always handle them? First of all, I feel that in his previous movies he did a poor job of selecting actresses. His female characters range from uninteresting and almost unnecessary (Carrie-Anne Moss in Memento, Hilary Swank in Insomnia) to god-awful (Scarlett Johansson in Prestige, both Maggie Gyllenhaal and Katie Holmes in the Batman movies). But Inception, au contraire, provides us, finally, with a strong female character. Marion Cotillard gives a very strong performance as the film's femme fatale. The rest of the supporting cast is strong for the most part, but no one stands out like Tom Hardy's Eames. He's an actor who came out of nowhere to become this film's action hero. Cillian Murphy does a good job of supporting and Ken Watanabe and Dileep Rao are nothing much to write about. DiCaprio and Gordon-Levitt carry the weight in this movie and Ellen page does an excellent job balancing DiCaprio’s character, so not much room is left for anyone else in the...

This season would keep people eager to watch every Wednesday night just to see what was going to happen next. This show provides all the right materials to fit a horror genre: scary scenes, violent and bloody scenes, scary atmosphere, a good story, unseen events, values at stake, a monster, and a hero. While watching an episode of AHS, viewers are warned about the scary and violent content of the show. This warning should not be taken lightly. From the very beginning of the season, every episode has had its own twist of horror and gore. The setting of AHS:Hotel is the Hotel Cortez located in Los Angeles. In the opening scene of episode one it features two swedish girls that find a creature hiding in the bed of their hotel room. This scene could make anyone want to stay up all night just to make sure there was not a monster underneath his or her covers. During the Halloween special, many serial killers that have already passed show up at the hotel for what is called a Devil’s Night, which is hosted by March, the man who built the hotel. ...Jeff Dunham versus Eddie Murphy Robert Smith Com/155 February 17, 2013 Julie Davenport Jeff Dunham and Eddie Murphy are each entertaining in different ways, such as using characters or vulgar humor because they seek to fit different audiences. The most important reason they are both entertaining in different ways is because Jeff Dunham uses characters and Eddie Murphy uses vulgar humor. Eddie Murphy has been around the entertainment circuit for much more years longer than Jeff Dunham but both are tremendously funny in person. Jeff Dunham is entertaining in his own right by using fictional characters to get the audience laughing aloud. I am comparing two of the best comedians today. They are Jeff Dunham and Eddie Murphy. I think they are both hilarious. They have their own ways of entertaining their audiences. Jeff Dunham uses ventriloquist puppets which are called characters. Their names are Walter, Peanut, Achmed the dead terrorist, and Bubba J. They all are very funny because they have different accents and they have their own quirks. Walter is shown as a grumpy old man that complains about everything. Peanut is a purple monkey that makes fun of everything he comes across he also has an endless amount of energy. Achmed is always talking about blowing stuff up. Bubba J is a beer-drinking redneck that likes...

...Bianca Washington Professor Ruiz English 0990 4 March 2013 Just Married Just Married (2003) directed by Shawn Levy and written by Sam Harper is a romantic comedy. The two main characters are played by Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy. These two individuals have such great chemistry that it shows throughout the whole movie. This film is rated pg13 and is appropriate for teens. The acting in the film was really good and believable. There was many parts in the movie that kept me laughing. Characterization is very important in the movie because the actors have to connect to each other and also to their own characters. Out of all the reviews that I have seen I have only found one positive review. I don’t know why because in my opinion the movie was not that bad to me. It was not my favorite but I enjoyed watching it. Many of the reviews talked about the movie having old jokes and that the characters didn’t have any chemistry. This movie is pretty old so the jokes are played out now but back then it was just immature humor that people liked to watch. The characters did shout at each other a lot in the movie but that is just there role in the movie. I feel that many of the reviewers were hoping for more inappropriate scenes and since this movie didn’t have enough of that they didn’t approve of it. John J. Puccio was one of the reviewers and he says “The movie is deceptively awful. It stars two attractive charming people who are not given a thing to work with in a script...

...Cillian Murphy. This movie has an interesting and creative concept that is still relevant today. It conjures up a future where time is money and money is time. Benjamin Franklin’s infamous quote literally turned into a currency. Everyone is born with a luminous digital clock etched on their forearm and they are genetically engineered to stop aging by the time they reach twenty-five. At that point in time, everyone has one year left to live and their clock starts counting down. Because of this, you must work to acquire more time to live. If you have thousands, even millions of years stored in your clock, you’re considered rich. On the other hand, the poor people who have little time in their hands, strive each day in order to survive. In some cases, others steal time. By simply clasping your hand with another person, you could easily transfuse or share minutes or years of your clock. When your time runs out and your watch ticks down to zero, you’ll basically die. Will Salas, played by Justin Timberlake, was a ghetto-dweller until he met a rich man named Henry Hamilton. Henry Hamilton was weary and despairing for he had already lived for more than a hundred years and so he endowed Will with over a century of his time, leaving only seconds for himself. Having so much time opened a lot of opportunities for Will. He travelled to another time zone and there he met Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried), daughter of one of the wealthiest man alive. However, a time keeper (Cillian Murphy), searches...

...Mr. Johnston Imagery Cities 23 April 2013 Extra Credit The movie screened in class, “Coming to America”, and the film “Notorious” have a tremendous amount of similarities and differences in certain scenes. When Eddie Murphy resides in the United States he chooses to live in New York or more specifically Brooklyn. The scene when the taxi driver drops him off portrays Brooklyn as slummy and not an area for someone that is wealthy. There is trash all over and most of the homes are either stone or brick. The architecture is an old style that has its obvious flaws. Notorious takes place in Brooklyn as well, but in one of the first scenes the director, George Tillman, Jr. introduces the setting by taking a helicopter and filming the Brooklyn Bridge, which he only shows Manhattan and the east river. It does not even show the city in which the movie is taking place, but I believe the director does this for perspective purposes. The scene right after this shows the young Christopher George Latore Wallace with his friends in their school uniforms. As the scene continues, Brooklyn in the movie seems tremendously crowded compared to only a few people walking around outside in the beginning of Coming to America. The architecture, though, is similar as most structures seem extremely non-modern. Another similarity is most of the citizens in both movie scenes seem to be rude and disrespectful. Both of these movies’ opening scenes depict Brooklyn as an area where someone would not want to...

...Timberlake, I wanted to see how will a singer act. However, he disappointed me, he can't let go. He is just too sweet and too cute to play a character like Will. Lastly, he totally does not having any chemistry with Amanda, I just want to see more love between them. Raymond Leon, the Timekeeper, who chased Will after he is becoming rich. Raymond is a person who has full compassion with his job. During his work when chasing Will. He was too focus and forgot to keep an eye on his watch and lost his life. One of his most stand-out quotes for me was: “I’m a Timekeeper, I don’t concern myself with justice. I only concern myself with what I can measure: seconds, minutes, hours. I keep time.” - Raymond Leon, Timekeeper. I think Cillian Murphy has done an awesome job in playing badass, evil and cold character. He is so hot in acting as a villain. He is very outstanding in this movie, without him, the movie will be even worse. Will wakes up with unlimited time on his hands..what will he do with it ? What about the time keepers? Just go and watch in the...

...Emily Murphy Chosen subject – Emily Murphy Emily Murphy was born in a small town in Ontario known as Cookstown on March 14th, 1868(Emily Murphy. Dir. Aiya Odtallah). She had many accomplishments in her lifetime, she was the first female magistrate and was part of the Canadian equal rights activists. In 1929 she was able to gain a ruling stating that women were legal people and could serve as part of the Congress and as a judge( Cruxton, J. Bradley). During the years of 1900-1906 she began writing about social issues under a fake name of Janey Canunk( Pettinger, Tejvan). Four years later she became the first women to work for the Edmonton Hospital Board. The next thirty years for Emily’s life would be the hardest years of her life, but would finally give women the voice and the rights they deserved. In the year of 1916, Alberta had passed the Dawer Act, which gave women the right to inherit 33% of their husband’s property( Pettinger, Tejvan). Her next mission was to give women the right to vote, this was later accomplished in 1919. During the years that women struggled to become a legal person, she created a group known as the Famous Five, the women involved were Nellie McClung, Louis McKinney, Henrietta Edwards and Irene Parhy, this was case was referred to as the persons case. After being declined by the Supreme Court that women were people, Emily moved to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in Britain which was the highest court appeal. In 1929...

...Also it shows how by having his support it helped keep the movement going. Moreover, as Meyer describes, many of the political figures that get involved can be in order to get elected (Meyer 2014). In this case since Murphy was involved on the people’s side he explains, “I am not a representative for the G.M. or for the labor group but for the people” (Fine 2013). This shows how by the governor playing a major role in the rights of the people and not choosing sides he is in a good moral standing of civil rights. By the UAW being nonviolent in their strike and only fighting for their rights as humans used Murphy to their advantage. Moreover, “Secretary of Labor advised Murphy that Roosevelt wanted him to tell the GM negotiators that it was the President’s wish that they confer with the union representatives” (Fine 2013). This shows how the grass roots of a movement can spread to reach many elite public figures. As the main participants in this protest were many lower working class people, the impact of their actions even reached the most elite position of a politician (President) that would help a movement that would forever change the oppression against human...
