...Progress Report Group Name: EXCELF Before address our progress report, we want to discuss the reason why we had to withdraw our initial marketing project plan for Taobao. Here are 2 basic reasons: 1. Based on our survey and further research on Hong Kong people’s attitude towards online shopping, we found out that the traditional off-line shopping malls and supermarkets are still people’s first choice due to many deeply ingrained consumer habits and behaviors. Therefore, it will be super tough for us to further conduct our project. 2. After our meetings on October, we thought the concept of Taobao and online shopping had been very mature after the long-time development and their promotion. As a result, making Taobao more popular will not be interesting and creative since they’ve already had their complete and better marketing plan. And the reasons we switch our direction to a relatively smaller, fresher and more potential vibrator market can be seen in our Project Briefing. Project Name: Promotion of TROJAN VIBRATIONS Project Team Member: Carla, Cathy, Cinwell, Dicky, Rachel, Sheng (Leader), Theo Part 1. Explain the importance of computer literacy. 2. Define the term computer. 3. Identify the components of a computer. 4. Compare the uses of various types of: input devices, output devices, and storage devices. 5. Describe categories of computers and their uses. Structure and Functions of a Computer 1 1.0 Introduction A computer is an electronic machine designed for the storage and processing of data. The machinery is called hardware, and this highly sophisticated equipment needs equally sophisticated programs (called software) to become a working computer system. Modern society has come to depend very heavily on the use of computer systems. Banks, businesses, government departments, industries, shops, people at home and school all rely on computer to play a vital role in their daily activities. These activities are centered on information. In business, the computer system has been used a lot and replaced filing cabinets as means of storing information, and clerical workers as a means of processing it. By storing and processing information on a computer system, these businesses can function more quickly and efficiently, because information can be found and collated much faster. Discovery Learning: A computer was also called a data processor. Why? 1.1 Major Parts and Functions A Computer is...

...THE B L A C K SWAN The HIGHLY I mpact IM of the PROBABLE Nassim Nicholas Taleb U.S.A. $26.95 Canada $34.95 is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpre dictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9 / 1 1 . For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. A BLACK SWAN Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. We are, therefore, unable to truly estimate oppor tunities, too vulnerable to the impulse to simplify, narrate, and categorize, and not open enough to rewarding those who can imagine the "impossible." For years, Taleb has studied how we fool our selves into thinking we know more than we actually do. We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise us and shape our world. Now, in this reve latory book, Taleb explains everything we know about what we don't know. He offers...
