Today I watched a short YouTube video that outlines the story of Martin Pistorius. Martin Pistorius was just twelve years old when he came home from school feeling very unwell. Instead of gradually getting better, his illness worsened until he was in an apparent vegetative state. Martin remained in that condition for over ten years.

Martin could not move or talk and doctors claimed that he was not aware of his surrounding. In fact he was actually fully aware of everything that was going on around him. After ten years, a therapist that was working with Martin noticed a glimmer in his eyes in response to something he said, and began to help him.

These days, Martin can talk via a computer, and drive a car that has been specifically designed
