Debate/ Ms. Joudeh
Affirmative: Death penalty should be abolished.
Definitions: Death penalty: capital punishment
Abolished: To put an end to.

Criminal punishment is a huge source of controversy in the United States. Opponents often argue that innocent people are sometimes executed and that the main motive is revenge, not true justice. Those who support the death penalty debate that the punishment offers retribution for victims of murder and is more cost efficient than offering life sentences in prison. Whether or not the death penalty will remain legal in the United States has yet to be seen. There are many reasons why the death penalty should be abolished: Executions are carried out at staggering cost to taxpayers, Innocent people have been convicted and executed, Race plays a role in determining who lives and who dies, and the death penalty is applied at random.
It costs far more to execute a person than to keep him or her in prison for life. A 2011 study found that California has spent more than $4 billion on capital punishment since it was reinstated in 1978 and that death penalty trials are 20 times more expensive than trials seeking a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole. California currently spends $184 million on the death penalty each year and is on track to spend $1 billion in the next five years.
Scientific studies have consistently failed to demonstrate that executions deter people from committing crime any more than long prison sentences. Moreover, states without the death penalty have much lower murder rates. The South accounts for 80% of US executions and has the highest regional murder rate.
The wrongful execution of an innocent person is an injustice that can never be rectified. Since the reinstatement of the death penalty, 142 men and women have been released from Death Row

She acted in a very mad manner and many negative attitudes have been observed by her supervisor Haleema such as being late, taking long breaks for lunch, and her evaluations generally started to fall. Haleema decided to meet up with the boss; Nikhat, to discuss Maryam’s situation and try to come up with evidences about what are the major factors that resulted in Maryams attitude through the first year period she spent in the company. Prophet Eesaa

...Prophet Eesaa While Maryam (Mary), may Allaah exalt her mention, was praying in her place of worship, an angel in the form of a man appeared before her. Filled with terror, she tried to flee, praying: {قَالَتْ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِالرَّ‌حْمَـٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيًّا . قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَ‌بُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ ۖ وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ آيَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَ‌حْمَةً مِّنَّا ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرً‌ا مَّقْضِيًّا} 'Translation' {…'Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, (so leave me), if you should be fearing of Allaah.' He said: 'I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you (news of) a pure boy (i.e., son).' She said: 'How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?' He said: 'Thus (it will be); your Lord says: 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter (already) decreed.'} [Maryam:18-21]. The angel's visit caused Maryam, may Allaah exalt her mention, great anxiety, which increased as the months went by. How could she face giving birth to a child without having a husband? Later, she felt life kicking inside her. With a heavy heart, she left the place of prayer and went to Nazareth, the city in which she had been born, where she settled in a simple farm house to avoid the public. But fear and anxiety did not leave...

...1. CASE ANALYSIS Maryam Zarrinjouei, a software designer at Ericsson, who was a group member in this change management, was interviewed whose comments would be referred to during the discussion of application of Kotter’s eight step theory. The case analysis is based on the given answers and the corresponding theory proposed by Kotter. Kotter listed and provided thorough explanations for reasons of failure of business organizations during the implementation of transformation process. As shown in the theoretical framework, there are eight steps for organizational changes and the analysis consists of eight parts accordingly in order to investigate if they have been implemented at Ericsson during the integration of 4G systems. The results show that the change model proposed by Kotter is highly considered in the change management of Ericsson. 2.1. Establishing a Sense of Urgency According to Kotter, the first step that prepares any organization to accept a change is to keep the level of complacency as low as possible and make sure that the sense of urgency is prominent. Maryam confirmed that the organizational change in telecommunication industry is characterized by high uncertainty levels and most of people involved are aware of that uncertainty. There were many awareness activities to which disastrous consequences may happen in case that transformation was not considered. That was what Kotter mentioned as triggering the sense of urgency by revealing some serious...

Feminizm

...The Afghan Perspective of Governmental Structures and Political Processes: Analyzing Afghanistan’s Potential to Develop Through Effective Formation and Operation of Government Why do Afghans Identify So Little with Political Parties Even though the Spectrum of Parties is So Wide? Which Candidate From the Recent Election Has a Better Plan on Rebuilding Afghanistan? Aimal Pahrand December 10, 2014 Abstract With U.S.-led NATO forces exiting Afghanistan in 2016, Afghan stability relies on the strength, capacity, validity, and permeability of Afghan governance. Although the size and overall adequacy of the Afghan governing structure has increased drastically since the fall of the Taliban regime, the government remains prevalent with corruption as political and ethnic tensions among its major subdivisions remain present. The recent election showed that Afghans still vote according to ethnicity. The Pashtun population heavily favored Dr. Ashraf Ghani, advisor of the Bonn process and Finance Minister to former president Hamid Karzai’s erratic administration. Alternative candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, former foreign minister in the Karzai administration and Secretary General of the Masood foundation as well as United Front’s Minister of Foreign affairs during the Taliban regime, was heavily favored by non-Pasthun voters. Ghani’s victory led to a huge backlash due to claims of fraudulent voting, which forced the two candidates to f ormally signing a power-sharing agreement...

Racism

...Though slavery has been around for decades, racism actually began with the enslavement of Africans during the sixteenth century. Slave trade was one of the main promoters of racism during that time. Prior, however, skin color did not define racial attitudes. This extending type of trade gave birth to the idea of races being regarded by their skin color. In To Kill a Mockingbird, racism is noticeable in both the text and globally. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, racist acts and events occur many times throughout the story. It is evident in this novel when Scout and Jem pass Mrs. Dubose’s house. Mrs. Dubose explains “Your father’s no better than the niggers and trash he works for!”(Lee ch. 11). This quote shows the hatred toward the Finch’s because of Atticus defending a black man. Mrs. Dubose clearly thinks of black people as “trash”. Bob Ewell shows how racist through many events in the story. One example is when he is on the witness stand and says “I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella” (17. 231). Bob obviously doesn’t care what he says about others at all, even standing in front of a huge audience and the judge. He represents a definite bias towards white people and would do anything to hurt a black man. The Ewell family is pretty intolerant when it comes to the general public and especially the black community. Cecil Jacobs had his part in the prejudice events when he tells Scout “My folks said your daddy was a disgrace an’ that nigger oughta...

Jesus

...The prophet Jesus pbuh in the holy Qur’an The prophet Jesus pbuh, known as Isa or Isa Ibn Maryam in the holy Qur’an, is considered to be a messenger of god in Islam who came before the prophet Muhammad pbuh and is mentioned in the holy Qur’an on numerous occasions. The verses of the Qur’an regarding Jesus pbuh include stories such as Mary conceiving him whilst still a virgin, the details of his birth, and his talking to the people whilst still in his cradle. Also mentioned is the revelation of the Gospel (Injil) onto the prophet Jesus pbuh, his ascending and his second coming before the Day of Judgment. The many amazing facts and miracles referring to the prophet Jesus throughout the Qur’an reflect that he is clearly a significant figure in the Qur’an and in Islam. The birth of Jesus pbuh was a miraculous event as described in the holy Qur’an. Jesus’ mother Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel who gave her good news of a son: 'O Mary, God gives you glad tidings of a son through a word from HIM; his name will be Christ Jesus, son of Mary, honored in this world and in the Hereafter, and of those nearest to God (Quran 3:45). Mary was shocked by this news, as she was still a virgin. She asked the angel how she could have a child when no man had ever touched her. The angel replied: So your Lord says, ‘It is easy for me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to men and a mercy from Us.  And it is a matter (already) decided (Quran 19:16-21). The Qur’an states the virgin birth of...

Women And Feminist Surgery

...reasons that push females away from surgery, how the society views females and its affect to their performance level. This all captures an image of the position of a female in a male- dominate profession and in this case it is surgery. Patriarchy System in the Surgical Field In general, women have a biological responsibility of pregnancy. This main responsibility is followed by other factors such as childcare, nursing and other activates that are seen to be related to females only. According to The Second Sex (1953), by Simone de Beauvoir she divides gender into two categories, men being the “subjects” and women being the “objects”. The following categories give men a sense of power towards women, creating a patriarchy system within gender. 1 Maryam AlShamsi Econ 394 – Research Paper The patriarchy system is the main source of gender discrimination. It gives the world a certain impression towards femininity that both men and women tend to follow. Simone de Beauvoir elaborates on this impression saying “But women do not say 'We', except at some congress of feminists or similar formal demonstration; men say 'women', and women use the same word in referring to themselves.” (Beauvoir, 1953) The struggles as a result of the patriarchy system are witnessed in the surgical field. According to the article “Is There Still a Glass Ceiling for Women in Academic Surgery” Ying Zhuge indicates, “as much as 30% of women faculty in one academic medical center perceived that they had been denigrated...
