I’m dizzy.” “I always imagined I could lift you up, real easy.” His familiar voice soothed her as he lowered her to the floor. It was David who sat next to her all through high school, a tall lanky red-headed classmate who shied away from any conversations. Hearing David’s voice again, she remembered how his clear bass range so indicative of his strength and height had always thrilled her. They sat next to each other in algebra class, and she gave him her notes when he fell asleep after working late nights. He owned a used truck with a bed large enough to haul hay for Moore’s feedlot. She had fantasized about going to a prom, a movie or even having a coke with him. While he helped her with the algebra problems after class, he never asked for a date.
