...My IQ level drops and my brain cells die every second i watch one of Tomi Lahren videos. You might want to consider doing your full research before ranting away at the president or the so called Islamic terrorists. Twice the amount of people have been killed by non "islamic radicals", "muslims" and "jihads". Common denominator in a mass shooting is not a muslim, its a GUN/Weapon. No is telling you that you can not buy a gun, you have a full right to use that amendment. But its the process of obtaining a weapon. I dont know the numbers but I am sure many of these mass shooting have not been possible if these people with serious mental issues and extremist didn't have easy access to guns. Also, hypothetically if someone christian or hindu were...

...(Persuasive speech: Gun Law Should Be Revoked) By: David Mikombo Submitted To: Professor Keondra Mitchell In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for Business Communications Management 3030-801 Online September 12, 2015 As a native African, growing up I always dreamed of coming to America that was the dream that my brothers, my friends and I had. Watching the movies and dreaming of living the American Dream, we were told that America is the best country in the world, the land of opportunities. There is no country like America “Uncle Sam Needs You”, yes my childhood was just filled with the hopes that one day I’d make it to the greatest nation/ empire on the planet. I was told the crime rates and killings were very low and I liked the sound of that. In 2007 God Almighty opened up a way for my family and I to come to America and now that was what you call a dream come true for me. Greetings to you all my name is David Mikombo that was just a background for you all to understand my feelings as to why the “Gun Law” should be revoked. On April 16, 2007, a Virginia Tech student named Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people, in total he gunned down 56 before he took his own life (thinkprogress.org). On November 5, 2009, Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood army base in Texas, fired killing 13 people and wounded 29 (thinkprogress.org). On August 3, 2010, Omar S. Thornton opened fire at a beer distributor in Manchester, Connecticut...

...economic freedom!” Dan, the Democrat, counter advocated “This eagle must symbolize America’s destruction of nature and beauty because of all the right-winged negligence!” Immediately after, a stranger to Rob and Dan walked by the same picture and proclaimed “Political government gridlock sure is strangling the nation to death.” As my story above has demonstrated, art can be interpreted and viewed in many different ways, depending on who is examining the artwork. Many observers of art, like Dan and Rob, debate the meaning that it portrays based on their own perspectives and frames of mind. When it comes to the art of rhetoric, many scholars in the field of persuasive speaking debate on which model for persuasion is most effective in modern day society. Aristotle’s Rhetoric is the most commonly found and taught version of persuasive speaking (Griffin et al., 2015). However, his work has come under scrutiny from those who don’t appreciate the broad and ironically ambiguous definitions and concepts that Aristotle provides. These unshakable critics are looking for scientific-based evidence within an art to devise a systematic approach for the method of persuasion. Provided in this essay is an overview of Aristotle’s Rhetoric as well as the history of the art of rhetoric itself. I have also examined two different case studies involving the application of Aristotle’s appeals to ethos (creditability), logos (logic), and pathos (emotion) in two different career fields. I evaluated these...

...Informative Speech: Cinco de Mayo gives most Americans a reason to drink tequila, eat tacos, and party hard. Today I will explain the history behind this holiday, common misconceptions, and why it is celebrated. According to History.com, Cinco De Mayo took place on May 5th 1862. It commemorates the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. What was the reason behind the Battle of Puebla? Simply put, Mexico had trouble paying back war debts to European countries, and France had come to collect on this debt. To understand the significance of this victory, consider at the time of this battle, the French army was considered the premier army of the world. 6500 well armed French Troops went head to head against 4700 under equipped Mexican Soldiers. They battled fiercely for 2 hours, until the French were forced to retreat. The Mexican Soldiers thru sheer will and determination had defeated the most powerful army in the entire world. The reason Americans celebrate this holiday is that we appreciate the cultural signifigance of what this battle represents. (Victory in the face of great odds and the Patriotism it generated). A common misconception made with Cinco De Mayo is that it celebrates Mexicos Independence. According to Wikipedia,. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, because it was on that day in 1810 that Father Miguel Hidalgo[->0] took to his pulpit in the village church of the town of Dolores and invited his flock to take up arms and join him[->1]...

...and proper, whether it is the Private ownership of guns or the prohibitions of guns (or if the answer lies somewhere in the middle) is truly right for the country; enter the debate. As to reasons in support of pro-guns ownership for private citizens, comes from one of the founding fathers Thomas Jefferson (n.d.) who eloquently stated “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." He also said," No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” This belief was not his alone but that of all the founding fathers. This belief was so strong that this intent of private ownership of guns was second only to the freedom of religion and speech, and was incorporated into the Bill of Rights in the country’s Constitution. The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution State (1791)”A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” However, there...

...After the loss of the Crimean war in 1856, Tsar Alexander II of Russia, his people, and its surrounding major powers realized the true conditions of un-industrialized Russia. The strength of its military ended up being an illusion, and now the country faced both an incredible backwardness and a lack of credibility in its own potential in protecting itself against competitive and rival countries, bringing into question some of the very basic structures of Russian politics and society. Russia’s backwardness in all key institutions compared to surrounding great powers was massive, and the loss of the war had a critical effect on the faith the people of Russia had in their Tsar. Because of this intolerable humiliation, Alexander II found his back pushed against a wall and was forced to make all sorts of reforms in order to ameliorate the poor conditions of his country. As one of Alexander’s first reform, in 1861 Alexander II declared “the edict to emancipation”, in other words, the abolishment of serfdom for fear that it would “reform from the below”. Even though Slavophiles stressed the importance of serfdom in the preservation of political and social stability, Westernizes emphasized its role as a brake upon Russia’s economic development in relation to other countries surrounding it. Alexander therefore decided to free the serfs from their landowners and give them land that they could now grow crops on without being governed by the landowners. However, right from the very first...

...Walter Benjamin (1936) The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction ________________________________________ Source: UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television; Transcribed: by Andy Blunden 1998; proofed and corrected Feb. 2005. ________________________________________ “Our fine arts were developed, their types and uses were established, in times very different from the present, by men whose power of action upon things was insignificant in comparison with ours. But the amazing growth of our techniques, the adaptability and precision they have attained, the ideas and habits they are creating, make it a certainty that profound changes are impending in the ancient craft of the Beautiful. In all the arts there is a physical component which can no longer be considered or treated as it used to be, which cannot remain unaffected by our modern knowledge and power. For the last twenty years neither matter nor space nor time has been what it was from time immemorial. We must expect great innovations to transform the entire technique of the arts, thereby affecting artistic invention itself and perhaps even bringing about an amazing \change in our very notion of art.” Paul Valéry, Pièces sur L’Art, 1931 Le Conquete de l’ubiquite Preface When Marx undertook his critique of the capitalistic mode of production, this mode was in its infancy. Marx directed his efforts in such a way as to give them prognostic value. He went back to the basic conditions underlying capitalistic...

A. Adesanoye Department of Communication and Language Arts Faculty of Arts University of Ibadan November 27, 2012 ABSTRACT This literature-driven study examined mass media effects. The work peered into the history of the ‘powerful media’. An in-depth review of relevant theories of mass media effects was analyzed. Findings pointed towards both positive and negative impacts of mass media. However, there was no empirical evidence to substantiate a direct cause and effect relationship of mass media messages with the actions of the consumer of the information. Consequently we can only assert that the mass media impacts on society but does not necessarily have an effect since other factors also influence people other than information consumed from the media. As such, this study asserts that the mass media influences public opinion but does not necessarily cause it. Key words: powerful media, mass media effects, theories of mass media effects, impact of media messages INTRODUCTION The mass media involve organisations that are responsible for the dissemination of information to a large number of people. Basically, the mass media...

At present Indian film industry or Bollywood is a perfect combination of entertainment and commercial sector, producing close to thousand movies in a year in various Indian languages. Indian film industry supersedes Hollywood in terms of movie production quantity by more than three times. Broadcast Television is going through an extraordinary time of change and challenge. It is still one of the most popular forms of entertainment and information, with the average Indian viewer still watching twenty hours or more per week. PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

...EnglishContents ABOUT THIS BOOK ................................5 THE WORDS.............................................7 WORD ANALYSIS ...............................103 IDIOM AND USAGE ............................117 About This Book English offers perhaps the richest vocabulary of all languages, in part because its words are culled from so many languages. It is a shame that we do not tap this rich source more often in our daily conversation to express ourselves more clearly and precisely. There are of course thesauruses but they mainly list common words. Other vocabulary books list difficult, esoteric words that we quickly forget or feel self-conscious using. However, there is a bounty of choice words between the common and the esoteric that often seem be just on the tip of our tongue. Vocabulary 4000 brings these words to the fore. Whenever possible, one-word definitions are used. Although this makes a definition less precise, it also makes it easier to remember. Many common words appear in the list of words, but with their less common meanings. For example, the common meaning of champion is “winner.” A less common meaning for champion is to support or fight for someone else. (Think of the phrase “to champion a cause.”) This is the meaning that would be used in the list. As you read through the list of words, mark any that you do not know with a check mark. Then when you read through the list again, mark any that you do not remember with two checks. Continue in this...

...price or lack of distribution may influence purchase decisions. Advertising effectiveness tends to be measured in terms of communication impact such as exposure to a message, awareness of a product, attention, and involvement. Most responses can be categorized as perception (seeing), learning (thinking), persuasion (feeling), or behavior (doing). Effective advertising stems from a combination of carefully planned strategy that connects to audience members on an emotional level and that isolates a need the product fulfills, creative that delivers the strategy, and strong, arresting executions. Six components comprise the classic definition of advertising. Advertising is a paid nonpersonal communication from an identified sponsor using mass media to persuade or influence an audience. Advertising can be classified into one of nine types. National consumer or brand advertising focuses on building long-term brand identity, and retail/local advertising strives to move merchandise in a restricted area. Political advertising encourages support of a candidate or idea while directory advertising helps consumers locate outlets for specific purchases. Direct response allows consumers to skip the middleman and purchase products directly from distributors by mail, phone or online. Business-to-business ads are directed...
