...Revision/Examination Advice Revision Everyone is different - we all work at our best in different ways and at different times. Tips Before starting your revision, think about: * Which times suit you best, day or evening? * Being comfortable - which surroundings and conditions help you to concentrate? * How to vary the work you are doing and how you are doing it. * Give yourself targets, rewards and breaks (but not too many) * Avoid situations that irritate you, prevent you from concentrating or distract you * Get down to work, rather than wasting time thinking about how much you have to do. * Try not to stare at notes, papers or books - have a break and start again * Break up your revision - It's easier to remember information from a few shorter study sessions than one long one * Use practical memory aids where relevant: audio-visual aids; podcasts; you tube photographs; pictures * Eat well and exercise for at least 30mins, even just a walk will help. Revision Techniques: * Mind map * Make a poster, cartoon, picture * Say key ideas out loud and tell someone else the main points * Ask someone to test you * Play background music * Plan revision time – make a timetable * Highlight the main points * Reduce notes to key words * Tick each topic as it has been revised * Complete past exam questions * Association – picture a familiar room in your mind and associate events with it – e.g close your...

...Researching Opportunities – Examination Revision and Evaluation In able to revise in the best possible way I created an action plan so that I could arrange my week before the exam. I thought that this would be practical because I would be able to make the most of my time in order to revise for the exam. I started by identifying my free time and preparing a time table that would be easy to follow and that would help me to obtain the best possible result. In my plan I included how long and at what time I was going to revise and also incorporated what revision techniques I was going to use that day. I took certain points in to consideration for example if I had to change a shift at work or if something urgent came up, I did this because it is hard to know exactly how my week way really going to go. Since my GCSE’s I have not done any exams, so I felt quite nervous about having to do one. When I was in school I used to revise by reading through my notes and high lighting the relevant information, then summarising the information on to flash cards. I also used to create mock questions so that I could answer them, eventually without using any notes or flash cards. Since I have used these techniques in the past I thought that it was a good idea to use them to revise for the psychology exam. Once I had identified my free time I found it very easy to put together my action plan. I created a timetable of the week before the exam and then planned out what I need to do and when I...

...an experiment to test the effectiveness of two different types of revision. One type is doing some each day over an extended period (spaced revision). The other type is where the learner does all the revision in a short period of time (cramming). Write a plan for an experiment to test which of these two ways of revising is better. You should use either a laboratory experiment, a field experiment or a natural experiment. You should consider the following issues (there are others): • Design • Variables • Ethical issues • Type of data and how it would be gathered. (12) I would take a sample of people and have half revise using the spaced revision and the other half using the cramming method and test which has the better results. I would give both groups a standard a-level psychology text book, tell them to learn a small section from it and then give them a realistic type exam at the end to test who answers the questions better to see which technique of revising is better. I would do it this way as the materials are easy to gather and not that expensive. For the first group I would give them the text book two weeks before the exam and for the second group, three days before the exam. The independent variable of my experiment is the revision technique used by the participants and the dependent variable is the results gathered. The experimental design I would use to test which method of revision is better is a natural experiment. The participants would revise in...
