...correctly attacking how the exams were fashioned. In other words, it is building strategy over defeat. Is nursing your first choice? Why? Answer: No. Political Science was at the top of my choices, Nursing came second. But after overthinking and analysing things, and with the influence of my parents, I took the latter. Personally, I have thought of being practical, that is, landing myself in a job with good pay after taking and passing the exam. On the exam, what area do you think you’re strong and weak? Answer: Strengths: Community Health Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing & Psychiatric Nursing • Basically, CHN is a favourite of mine. Having been exposed in the community, the illnesses that are rampant and how the people cope, I find it very interesting. • Medical-Surgical Nursing too, is of high regard. Just knowing the different kinds of diseases, pathophysiology and the nursing care rendered, the subject becomes very overwhelming, and at the same time augments my learning in the process. • Psychiatric Nursing is precious because the subject is very complex. I deem to see how human beings are dynamic and complicated altogether. Although this subject is quite unfathomable, especially that it concerns the brain, as a human, it sparks incredible fascination. Weaknesses: Fundamentals of Nursing, Maternal...

...Obstetric Anecdotal Assignment G.D. Leilani Fuller N250: Obstetric and Pediatric Nursing Professor Gahan El Camino College May 14, 2013 Obstetric History G.D. In the midst of an empty Labor and Delivery floor on May 9, 2013, there was a lone laboring mother-to-be with the name of G.D. This individual was of Hispanic descent, Costa Rican to be exact, and was a twenty-five year old female with a religious background in Catholicism. G.D. was in room 10 and eagerly anticipated the vaginal birth of her first child, as were her husband’s parents’ for their first grandchild. She had been laboring since her admission at midnight on May 8, 2013. While G.D. is technically a gravida 2, she is only para 1 as she had an elective abortion in 2009. When the room was empty, all that G.D. had to say about this abortion was that the timing was not right in her life for a child then and now she is prepared to be a mother with her new husband at her side. While G.D. originally planned to labor in the most natural manner possible despite being induced, she quickly changed her mind and accepted the epidural. According to Talbot (2012), the labor pain G.D. was experiencing was based on several factors such as cultural, psychological and physiological. She tried to maintain a natural labor with no rush in delivery as is common with Central American countries like Costa Rica, however this fetus called for a more immediate delivery. She had plans to breastfeed once this baby...

...Thesis statement: Research shows that breastfeeding is the best choice over formula because breastfeeding provides the infant with essential nutrients, helps with recovery from childbirth, and protects the infant against a number of chronic conditions. Annotated bibliography Baumgartel, K. L., & Spatz, D. L. (2013). WIC (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children): Policy versus practice regarding breastfeeding. Nursing Outlook, 61(6). 10.1016/j.outlook.2013.05.010 This article addresses the discrepancy of policy versus practice in the government subsidized program WIC. This article shows how even though the program is meant to support at risk mothers in breastfeeding, the numbers prove that a majority of their budget is spent on formula expenses. Very little of the budget is actually allocated to breastfeeding initiatives. The American Academy of Nursing members create and execute policy related initiatives to reform the American Health system. The academy has more than 2,400 members and is the established leaders in practice and research. They are advocates in healthcare policy making in Washington DC. This source will be relevant to the research paper because it will provide examples of the lack of funding for education and for initiatives for breastfeeding awareness and support, especially for the at risk population. ...Present status of the Health Sector in Bangladesh 1.Introduction Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world with a population of 139 million people, 40 percent of whom are living in poverty (HIES 2005). The Bangladesh National Strategy for Accelerated Poverty Reduction (NSAPR 2005) considers in particular the human dimensions of poverty (deprivation of health, education, nutrition, gender gaps) and commits the MoHFW to reach the poor and vulnerable, especially women and children. The Health and Population Sector Strategy (HPSS), which commenced in 1998, sets the stage to develop the SWAp and for the development of the Health and Population Sector Programme (HPSP) which was to include reforms such as improved and more efficient service delivery by unifying the two wings, health and family planning (FP), under the MoHFW. The current Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Program (HNPSP) outlines activities from 2003-2010, with objectives to improve health outcomes, reduce health inequities, enhance quality of care, modernize the GoB health sector, and attain the health related MDGs. This document has tried to incorporate the MDG (4, 5 and 6) targets, while offering slightly different targets for HNPSP. The Revised Programme Implementation Plan (RPIP) of Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Programme (HNPSP) 2003-2010, proposed budget for the whole sector by dividing it into four sub-sectors: Health Programme (HP), Nutrition Programme, Population Programme...

...GENETICS CASE STUDY GENETICS CASE STUDY This case study is based on a high-risk pregnancy due to advanced maternal age, genetic test indicating the fetus to have Tay-Sachs Disease and the coping strategies for this family. Rita Trosack is a 43-year old white female, married for six years to husband, Peter, a 46-year old white male. They both work in the financial district of Chicago and live downtown. They have been trying to conceive for two years. They both work an average of sixty hours a week. Rita and Peter were both raised as Catholics; however, they choose not to practice at this time. Rita missed her menstrual period, began having typical signs and symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, dry heaving, tender breasts, and fatigue). The fatigue was so severe she decreased her hours at the bank. An early pregnancy test performed by Rita tested positive. She then calculated her due date as January 27, 2009, since her last menstrual period (LMP) began on April 20, 2008. Rita met with Dr. Zimmerly an obstetrician in a high-risk obstetric clinic. On this first visit he confirmed the estimated date of delivery (EDD) as late January 2009. Due to Rita’s age, the chorionic villus sampling (CVS) was recommended to screen for fetal genetic defects. Rita had the test in early July, which would place her around eleven weeks into her pregnancy; this is the appropriate time in which to perform the CVS. Amniocentesis could have been performed, but this is usually...

...childbearing expenses (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Although adolescent pregnancy is not ideal for most life trajectories, it does not have to be regarded as an all-encompassing, unfavorable life event. Nurses are the health care providers who have the most prolonged interactions with women during the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period; hence, they have a paramount role in the wellness of childbearing adolescents (Mercer, 1990). Although the focus of health services is centered on the pregnant or birthing mother, nurses have direct interaction with the fathers and extended family and friends as well. Dallas (2009) suggests nurses are the most vital link between pregnant and parenting families and the clinical agency. The child birth experience, whether positive or...

Behavior developments arising from stressful child attachment situations of 243 French mothers and daughters were gathered. The quality of caregiving, attachment development, relationship between mother and child along with influences of maternal distress predict future psychosocial behaviors of middle school children. Insecure, distressed children have behavior problems such as trying to control their parents. How children externalize or internalize stress reflects future behavior issues, attachment relationships, and parental interaction. Strengths or Weaknesses: The validity of individual mother and child reports were valuable tools for problem assessments within the family regarding maladaptive attachment security. Various testing variables were also used to strengthen the results. Evaluation: Prior attachment...
