Novelleanalyse af Grim og Dum

1. Udvælg en af novellerne og begrund dit valg.
Jeg har valgt novellen ”Grim og Dum”, for det første fordi den var rigtigt spændende lige fra starten. For det andet er den også tankevækkende, og jeg kan sagtens forestille mig at fremtiden vil komme til at se sådan ud.

3. Dit første indtryk
Da jeg læste overskriften, og så at det var en dagbog, tænkte jeg det var en ”teenage-dagbog” om hvor grim og dum hovedpersonen er, og at hun aldrig ville få en kæreste. Det er der også en smule af, men faktisk synes jeg, at novellen er rigtigt interessant fra start til slut. Det kunne være spændende at finde ud af om det virkelig bliver sådan i fremtiden, men det har jeg ikke midlerne til at finde ud af.

4. Find genrens kendetegn
Novellen er fiktiv, fordi den foregår i fremtiden, men som jeg tidligere har fortalt, kan jeg sagtens forestille mig, at det bliver sådan om 30-40 år. Der er få personer med i ”Grim og Dum” og handlingen foregår over et års tid, og dermed foregår den over længere tid end noveller almindeligvis gør. Efter min mening er der 2 konflikter i novellen, og den første konflikt er, at hun ikke kan få noget job, fordi hun er blevet kasseret af samfundet. Det andet problem er, når hun bliver tilbudt et job som ”alternativ reproducent”, og efter nogen tid begynder hun at hade samfundet og barnet, og derefter vil hun gøre alt for at barnet bliver født misdannet. ”Grim og Dum” starter i ”in medias res”, og det synes jeg er godt, fordi man bliver fanget af historien lige med det samme. Novellen har en forholdsvis overraskende slutning, for jeg havde egentligt regnet med at hovedpersonen havde gjort, som regeringen havde beordret hende, nemlig at spise sundt, og ikke ryge eller drikke.

5. Handlingsresumé
Novellen handler om en pige på 17 år, som er blevet kasseret til uddannelse. Hun er blevet kasseret af samfundet, fordi de mener, at hun ikke er begavet nok til at blive en af de arbejdende. Hun er også grim og dum, og derfor bliver hun strengt anbefalet ikke at få børn selv, således at hun giver sine dårlige gener videre. Hun går på en masse kurser, som kaldes ”hold-dig-i-gang-kurser”, fordi samfundet mener, at det er vigtigt at havde faste rutiner, når man er arbejdsfri. På nogle kurser lærer man at stå op tidligt, og på andre lærer man om spisetider, sundhed og hygiejne.

En dag bliver hovedpersonen tilbudt et job som alternativ reproducent, hvilket betyder at hun skal have implanteret et befrugtet æg, og derefter være rugemor for et ægtepar, som har travlt med deres arbejde. Når hun har født, må hun ikke have nogen form kontakt til forældrene eller barnet. Hun kan ikke afslå jobbet, for så mister hun sin frihedsbistand, og hvad skal hun så leve af?

6. Hvilken betydning har titlen og passer den til indholdet?
Titlen passer rigtig godt til indholdet, fordi personen i novellen er dum og grim ifølge samfundet. Ifølge hende selv er hun jo en god person, som har prøvet en del for at blive det, hun ønsker.

7. Tid. Hvor lang tid strækker handlingen sig over?
Novellen er skrevet i 1983, men efter min mening kunne den sagtens være skrevet i fremtiden, bare som en nutidig historie. Selve handlingen i novellen starter den 5. marts 2046 og slutter den 26. marts 2047, så det vil sige den strækker sig over et år og 21 dage.

8. Beskriv miljøet

Det må være barskt at leve i sådan en verden, fordi der er en evig stræben efter det perfekte samfund. Hvis du er født grim eller dum, har du nærmest ingen chancer for at leve det liv man gerne vil. Samfundet er fuldkomment hensynsløst over for dem, der ikke er ”perfekte”, og ville gerne havde set de aldrig var blevet født, således at man kan få den perfekte og fejlfrie verden.

9. Lav beskrivelser af hovedpersonerne

Hovedpersonen
Hun er en pige på 17 år, som ikke passer i samfundet, fordi hun er grim og dum. For at være helt præcis synes hun selv, hun ligner en gris i ansigtet. Hun er ulykkelig, hun tuder tit og har til tider tænkt på at søge aktiv dødshjælp. Hun må have været en smule ensom, da hun var lille, fordi hun mistede sine forældre, og dermed blev hun et ”statsbarn”. Hovedpersonen er på nogle områder social, eftersom hun gerne vil arbejde med børn eller mennesker i det hele taget. Hun adlyder ordrer, indtil hun bliver påvirket af sin veninde. Hun har også sine egne meninger og tanker, og hun ville ønske, at hun var perfekt smuk, intelligent og sød – ligesom fr. Sejersen. Hovedpersonen ændrer sig en del fra start til slut. Det begynder med, at hun er rimelig neutral over for samfundet, men langsomt opbygger hun et større og større had til staten, fordi de tvinger hende til at blive ”alternativ reproducent”. Hun finder til sidst ud af, at hun bliver groft udnyttet. Mania
Hun er hovedpersonens veninde, og hun står i samme situation som hende. Hun virker mere rebelsk end hovedpersonen, og Mania påvirker hende også. Hun er snu, fordi hun snyder samfundet, når de drikker og ryger, mens hun er rugemor. Jeg tror også, at hun er ret glad for at feste og have gang i den. Jeg synes, hun lyder lidt hård i det. Man får ikke noget af vide om hendes tanker, men jeg kan forstille mig, at hun har et enormt had til samfundet.

Fr. & Hr. Sejersen

Det eneste de bekymrer sig om er deres ufødte barn, som hovedpersonen bærer på. De sørger hele tiden for, at hun er i god fysisk form. De er en smule bekymrede over om hovedpersonen kan lade være med at drikke spiritus, ryge eller tage piller, så derfor får hun meget opmærksomhed. De er meget venlige og kommer med en masse gaver, for at gøre det nemmere at være ”alternativ reproducent”, og dermed håber de at hovedpersonen vil holde babyen så sund som muligt.

Modsætningsforhold

Efter min mening står Fr. Sejersen i modsætning til hovedpersonen og Mania, fordi de to er grimme og dumme, men Fr. Sejersen er perfekt smuk, intelligent og sød. De står også i modsætning på den måde, at hun er værdsat og succesfuld, og det er hovedpersonen og Mania ikke. Jeg tror også, at Fr. Sejersen har haft et godt liv, hvor imod de to andre har haft et mindre godt liv.

10. Fortællersynsvinkel
”Grim og Dum” er skrevet i 1. person (jeg fortæller), og det er godt, fordi det gør novellen mere personlig. Eftersom det er en dagbog, kan man heller ikke skrive novellen i andet end 1. person.

11. Fortælleteknik
Novellen er fortalt med replikker og med tanker fra hovedpersonen. Det synes jeg er bedre i stedet for at novellen havde været en monolog, hvor det hele bare var tanker. Dette havde efter min mening været ret kedeligt i længden.

12. Komposition
Efter min mening er novellen skrevet efter berettermodellen, fordi den starter med at hovedpersonen præsenterer sig selv og derefter uddyber konflikten med samfundet. Derefter kommer point of no return, og det er der, hvor hun bliver rugemor for Fr. og Hr. Sejersen. Derefter optrappes en konflikt, da det bliver opdaget, at hun har en kæreste, og deres kærlighed bliver forbudt. Derefter kommer klimakset, og det er efter min mening til sidst i bogen, hvor hovedpersonen siger ”Nej du, siger jeg med min grisemund. Vi snyder dem … Mania tænder smøgerne, og jeg åbner flasken”. Efter min mening er der således ingen udtoning i novellen, fordi den slutter meget åbent.

13. Sprog
Selvom novellen er skrevet i 1983, synes jeg at sproget er meget nutidigt. Ordvalget var meget simpelt og i let læselig stil, og jeg havde nemt ved at læse den.

14. Tema/budskab
Temaerne i bogen er kærlighed, ensomhed, ulykke, venskab og udnyttelse.
Novellen drejer sig om samfundets opdeling og hvordan samfundet svigter de knapt så kloge og smukke. Jeg mener, at der er flere budskaber i novellen, og et af dem er at man skal yde før man kan nyde. Efter min mening er budskabet også, at man ikke skal stræbe efter det perfekte samfund, men hellere prøve at få det bedste ud af det man. Forfatterinfo

Ifølge citatet fra forfatterweb.dk passer novellen ”Grim og Dum” godt med at Gretelise Holm er samfundskritisk. Hun skriver dog flest krimier, hvilket novellen ikke er.

15. Egen mening om novellen
Jeg synes ”Grim og Dum” er en rigtig god novelle, og samtidigt meget tankevækkende. Jeg blev fanget med det samme, og jeg synes det er godt, at den starter i ”in medias res”. Novellen er skrevet så den er nem at læse og forstå, hvilket jeg også synes er dejligt, fordi jeg ikke kan lide alt for lange bøger.
Målgruppen for novellen er efter min mening fra 13 år og op efter. Min mor har også læst den, og hun synes også, at den var enormt interessant og spændende.
Hvis jeg skulle give den stjerner, ville den lige snige sig op på 5 ud af 5.

...Math was always the class that could never quite keep my attention in school. I was a daydreamer and a poor student and applying myself to it was pretty much out of the question. When I would pay some attention I would still forget the steps it had taken me to find the solution. So, when the next time came around I was lost. This probably came about because as a kid I wasn’t real fond of structure. I was more into abstract thought and didn’t think that life required much more than that at the time. I was not interested in things I had to write down and figure out step by step on a piece of paper. I figured I could be Tom Sawyer until about the age of seventy two. My thoughts didn’t need a rhyme or reason and didn’t need laws to keep them within any certain limits. The furthest I ever made it in school was Algebra II and I barely passed that. The reason wasn’t that I couldn’t understand math. It was more that I didn’t apply myself to the concepts of it, or the practice and study it took to get there. I was always more interested in other concepts. Concepts that were gathered by free thinkers, philosophers, idealists. Now I knew that a lot of those figures I read about tried their hand in the sciences, physics, and mathematics in their day, but I was more interested in their philosophical views on everyday life.
